Chapter 2: Manipulative

Cold, rough and aggressive.

His hands grabbed mine and pushed them off his body as he distanced himself from me.

"What are you doing?" He asked, breaking me out of the seductive gaze I had him trapped in.

"What does it look like?" I couldn't help biting my lips slightly as I looked up at him through my lashes.

"I am a married man." He let out, averting his captivating green eyes from me as he folded his hands infront of his chest.

"Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't know." I stumbled back as I tried to move away, suddenly embarrassed. I felt colour rush to my cheeks. I certainly didn't see a ring on his finger. My eyes fell on his left hand, still not finding a ring.

I never had gotten this embarrassed.

"Besides, you probably shouldn't just kiss strangers. It's not right."

"I can do whatever I want. Thank you so much for your concern." I sarcastically replied, the anger evident in my voice as my nostrils flared ever so slightly. My own arms came in front of my chest as I narrowed my eyes at him.

"And I should inform you that I was only looking at you because..." His thumb came up to my face and he traced it along from the edge of my lips to just above my chin. He brought the thumb in front of me, covered in what I assumed was my pink lipstick. My eyes only widened as I stood awestruck and embarrassed with my jaw almost touching the gravel beneath us. Had it been like that all the time, oh god! Why didn't Liz tell me? That little bitch!

So much for acting sexy.

Without a word, he turned around and moved to the driver's seat, opening the door for himself and quickly slipping into the car. Oh sweet lord, he was fucking hot. As I stared at the back of his head, I heard the black car purr to life as he drove away.

I sighed, turning on my heel to get into my building. With heavy steps, I made my way up to the fifth floor from the almost broken staircase. As I pushed the key into the hole, I jumped back as the door was pushed open itself.

"Aiden?" I let out a squeak, not really expecting to see him greet me at the door with a wide smile on his face.

He suddenly engulfed me in his arms and I hugged him back after a couple of seconds, "You are back?"

"You didn't get my message?" He asked once I had slipped out of his grip and past him into my small apartment.

"I...oh yeah, of course. I forgot." I lied as I turned around to face him once again. He didn't need to know that I had blocked his number.

"How was Peru?" I finally asked him, frowning at the apron he was wearing. My apron. He had already made himself at home.

"I was in Brazil last but Peru was beautiful but I got bored so I came back home, to you." Of course he did. He got bored of Seattle so he left to go to Egypt four years ago. He got bored of Egypt and went to travel across South America. He got bored of me so he left in the first place.

"How did you get in?"

"You still haven't gotten your locks changed. I still had a key, remember?"

"Sure." I muttered as I exhaled loudly and walked to my room, quickly changing into something comfortable. I didn't want him here at all. Why the hell was he back? Pushing my hand through my almost dirty straightened hair, I quickly pulled them into a bun and walked back outside to see him sitting at the small round dining table.

"I made you dinner. I learnt this recipe in-" He quickly said once I stood leaning on the chair across from him. He pointed to the two plates of pasta sitting in the middle.

"I already ate." I swallowed coldly, cutting him off. Food wasn't going to make everything alright. He left me when I needed him the most. He left me when I lost both of my parents in a car crash. He left me when I was broke, in debt because of my father and had only turned nineteen.

"Oh." He looked away, hurt. I couldn't care less if I was honest. "Bex, do you want me to leave?"

Yes. "No, it's fine. You can stay in the guest room for a while." I muttered, swallowing my pride and emphasising the last bit of my sentence,"I am going off to sleep, I have an early day tomorrow."

I surely wasn't going to even catch forty winks tonight with my first love sleeping in the next room.

"Come on, Terrence. I come here everyday. You know me, let me in!"

"Ms. Miller, I can't let you in. It's against our company's policy." I glared at him. We were practically bestfriends! We had a two minute conversation everyday. I had woken up today, sleepy and distraught and late to work and I just now realised that I had lost my wallet, along with my id and driver's licence.

"Let me in or I'll tell everyone about what you were doing on that fine Friday afternoon-"

"Fine! Go ahead but don't you dare use that against me ever again." The smile on his face instantly dropped. I had caught him smoking pot right behind the building once. He surely didn't need to know what I too had been upto when I had walked into the small street behind the firm to find him high as hell.

I smirked in victory as I quickly ran inside and stopped in front of the lift, waiting for it to open and was so not pleasantly surprised when Ralph joined me. This was the best day ever.

"Good morning, sir."

"'Morning, Rebecca. Running a little late today, I see."

"Yeah, sorry sir, I-uh- i had a little disaster this morning."

"What happened?"

"Uh...My car broke down." I mentally facepalmed myself at my lame excuse as the metal doors opened and we both stepped in.

"Don't you live like three blocks away from here?" Oh shoot.

"Uh- yeah. I like to bring it here. You know for safety..." He passed me a strange look from the corner of his eye and let out a chuckle under his breath and I politely ignored him and pressed my floor button.

"What floor?"

"Same as you."

"Ready for going against Ramone?" I soon asked after a few seconds in silence.

"Oh god, no. I have to go to the court in an hour." He mumbled under his breath as the doors opened and we both started walking towards our rooms.

"Well, good luck." I slightly smiled at how scared he sounded. It was always fun for an employee to see a scared boss because usually it is the other way around.

"You are having way too much fun mocking me. You know, there still is a chance I might win." He said, raising his perfectly arched eyebrows in challenge as I opened the glass door to my little office and he slipped in behind me, letting it close behind him.

"Sure."

"Bad, Becca. You are a bad, bad employee. Do you want to see your boss lose?" I let out a little laugh as I kept my bag on my desk.

"Of course not, Mr.Davis. I wish nothing but the best for you but you are going against Ramone. He is like the Beyonce of lawyers."

"What does that make me then?"

"Hm...let's see...Britney Spears." I mumbled under my breath, smirking a little as I averted my eyes from him and felt him glare at me, "Forgotten but a good performer none the less."

"Well, all jokes apart, I wanted to talk to you about something serious." He said, slipping into the chair in front of me and I sat in my own chair.

"What is it, sir?"

"Would you be interested in accompanying me to continue my investigation for a case in England? I have to meet a couple of witnesses and I thought it would be best to have you right beside me."

"Sure, I wouldn't mind coming. Besides, I need a little adventure in this job, you know." I smiled at him and he laughed back, "when are we leaving?" Besides, I would do anything to escape Aiden who had no intention of leaving anytime soon.

"Two weeks from now. Works well with you?"

"Yeah, that's fine." I said, after a minute of pretending to look through my calendar lying on my desk. I knew I had nothing to do and jotted down on the empty calendar but he didn't need to know that.

"Great, I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked, getting up from his seat and adjusting his suit jacket.

"Yes, boss. Don't lose...too badly." He shook his head at me as I continued smiling cheekily at him and left me alone in my office to my thoughts.

I didn't have any work to do yet and busied myself with playing solitaire on my computer when suddenly my phone started ringing.

"Hello?"

"Rebecca Miller?"

"Yeah, who is this?"

"Nathan. You left your wallet in the car yesterday when I gave you a ride back home." My face flushed and I stopped clicking my mouse. Nathan. Well, I finally found out the hot guy's name for once but I couldn't help but still feel embarrassed about what happened.

"Oh?" I dumbly let out, not knowing what to say to the deep voiced man on the line.

"So, do you want it back?"

"Yeah, that would be nice. Can you come to my place aga-"

"No. Get it yourself." Ouch. That was rude.

"Fine. I'll come around five?"

"I won't be available then." He said and I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him over the phone.

"Then give it to Elizabeth. I'll take it from her." I practically sneered. Who did he think he was? How did it matter whether he was available or not, now? He certainly wasn't available for fucking last night.

"No. Come at eight-thirty. Sharp." He ordered, in that low voice of his that made me realise that I was absolutely soaking wet. He ended the call and I heard silence as I moved the phone away from my ear.

"Fine, Mr. Rude, I'll be there." I muttered to myself as I again focused on the game in front of me, clicking on the king of hearts as I dragged it to a new column.
