AMBROSE VASILAKIS

I looked at Damien with confusion. He looked sombre, but angry too. Damien’s face was grave, and he expected me to answer to his statement.

“My niece. What is she doing in your house and why isn’t she allowed to meet me?”

“I don’t understand the meaning to your question,” I whispered.

Alexander too looked confused.

“My niece, she is here,” Damien stated, “I need you to get her here.”

“I don’t have your niece here, Damien. I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I stated loud andclear.

“Don’t play with me, Ambrose. I will send my men all around the house, and if I find my sweet niece here, then it will be my gun and your forehead.”

“Fine, be my guest,” I snapped, “I didn’t even know you had a niece. Is

she a maid in my house? Does she work here?”

“Bell Summers, that is my niece.”

My eyes widened, and all breath left my body, I sat back into my chair and looked at him with what I consider to be a shocked expression. My conversation with Bell came forth.

“My Uncle is in town, he loves me very much and wants to meet with me,” Bell whispered.

I stiffened,

“Bell, I would never stop you, but you know our situation. Don’t you?”

“No one knows about me....”

“Turns out there are people who are keeping tabs on me. They know about you, Bell. I just want you to keep a low profile.”

“But what about my Uncle?”

“We can call him here. I have no problems with that.”

“Shit,” I snapped, “I didn’t know you were Bell’s Uncle. Bell never even

mentioned that she had an Uncle who’s a Fed. Fuck.”

“Before you call her here,” Damien said, “I want to know the status of your relationship with her.”

“She is my girlfriend,” I said in an unflinching tone.

“Shit! My brother and sister-in-law are going to be mad,” Damien snapped, “I want to snap your neck. Aren’t you too old to be her boyfriend? Aren’t you too old to even be called a boy?”

I bristled.

“Listen, Damien. My intention towards Bell is very honourable. Calm the fuck down so we can talk about this new thorn that seems to have erupted in our relationship.”

“Are you calling me a thorn, you criminal?”

“A criminal that is going to help you catch a bigger criminal to get you that damned promotion. I suggest you watch what you say, Damien. You arenot exactly an angel here,” I hissed.

“You think I am going to keep taking your blackmailing while you sleep with my sweet niece. I want her here right now; she needs to be in front of me. Get her here!” Damien all but roared on my face.

“Malcolm,” I turned to the lethal assassin, “get Bell here, now.”

Malcolm nodded and walked out of the room. Damien and I stared at each other, refusing to lower our eyes. I never knew I could hate someone with a passion like such

except maybe Tsar. But I knew I couldn’t act too rash. Damien was a very close family member, and Bell adored him. One wrong step and I might have to stay goodbye to Bell. I first hand knew how family affected relationships. What if Damien blabbered something wrong and vicious to Bell’s parents. I couldn’t afford that. I planned on making a perfect impression on them.

Damien’s expression became smug, and I knew he realised the same

thought as I did. He had the upper hand; I hated that. I lowered my eyes slightly and mellowed my aura a little. I couldn’t afford to threaten orintimidate this guy. I had almost everything at stake. Bell was my life, and I didn’t want to lose her.

Malcolm came back with Bell behind him. She looked confused.

“Bell, please come inside; I have something important that I wanted to ask you,” I beckoned my girl in.

“What is it?” Bell whispered and walked in.

I saw Damien stiffen upon hearing Bell’s voice and he turned to her. My Bell’s eyes widened, and recognition dawned in them.

“Uncle Damien, what are you doing here?”

“Bell, why didn’t you tell me that your Uncle is in the FBI and not a small- time agent either?” I asked her directly.

Before Bell could answer, Damien jumped in.

“You don’t get to ask questions, young man. Step away and let an Uncle meet his niece,” Damiensnapped.

Victor raised his brow at my subdued behaviour as I sat back in my seat.

“Pumpkin, what are you doing here?” Damien asked.

“Uncle, Ambrose is the one paying for Winnie’s treatment. We love each other,” Bell whispered.

Damien looked at me.

“What did Ambrose want in return?” Damien asked.

I gulped. A naked muse didn’t sound so good right now.

“Nothing, he didn’t want anything from me, Uncle. There is nothing to worry about,” Bell said.

I sighed in relief, and at the same time, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for my sweet Bell. She was the light of my life, and I couldn’t survive without her.

“Don’t lie to me, Bell,”

“Uncle, I am a smart girl. I know what’s good for me,” Bell whispered.

“Do you know anything about his profession? Do you know the things he has done?”

“Yes. Uncle, he helped you catch a criminal and sacrificed his family in the process. Ambrose is a good man, Uncle. I am lucky to have him in mylife.”

Victor winked at me.

Damien didn’t say anything for a few moments before nodding.

“I would like to have a few moments alone with my niece, Ambrose,”

“Sure,” I whispered.

All of us walked out of the room, and I went to the living area. Victor, Alexander and Malcolm all looked at me with strange expressions.

“What?”

“I think it is safe to say that Bell is very sure of this relationship, you don’t have anything to worry about.

Bell will take a stand for you in front of her family; she just did. And if Damien agrees to your relationship then I am sure the rest of the familywill too,” Alexander said.

“Have you met her family members?”

“I have met her mother; she is a lovely lady. Her father is slightly tough, but if Bell can manage Damien, then her father is a cakewalk.”

“That reassures me,”

“It should. Bell loves you very much, Ambrose. Your age-difference does not matter. Your professions and lifestyles don’t matter, what matter is you will love her no matter what and she will too,” Alexander whispered.

“Alexander is right,” Bell said.

I turned around and found Bell and Damien standing. Damien still looked suspicious but didn’t say anything.

“I guess Ambrose has Damien’s approval,” Victor said.

“We are getting there,” Bell winced.

“Good enough for me,” I said.

Bell walked Damien to the couch, and we all sat down.

“I am leaving for New York in a few days,” Bell informed Damien.

That seemed to change Damien’s mood, his expression became worried, and he turned to me.

“Did you know about this?” Damien asked.

“I do know about this,”

“And you are okay with it? I knew there was something wrong here,”

“Uncle, I have to start my job. It isn’t about anything else.”

“Pumpkin, I know how much your job means to you. Trust me, I do. But the city isn’t safe for you. Tsar is on the prowl, and if he even gets a whiff of your existence, trust me, there won’t be a lot I’d be able to do. He is a mighty man!”

“And I trust you and Ambrose to keep me safe. I am not going to go to

parties or anything! My practices will take most of my day, and then I will return home. Ballet is the air I breathe, Uncle. I am sorry, but you cannot stop me on this,” Bell whispered.

“Bell you are very adamant about this,” I said.

“And I told you why Ambrose. I am not going to compromise my career!” Bell snapped.

Bell got up and ran away towards her room. She slammed the door loudly,

and the entire house vibrated with its impacted. Silence descended upon all of us, and no one spoke for several minutes.

“Didn’t know she had it in her to slam so loudly,” Victor grinned.

I shot him a glare.

“What? Bell is tiny,” Victor defended himself.

“Well, this is the first time she is throwing such a tantrum,” I said, “Bell is so put together most of the time.”

“As lovely as my niece is, throwing tantrums comes very naturally to her. And you haven’t even met Winnie yet; her tantrums are bigger and farmore elaborate.”

“I cannot believe this,”

“Well, you should. You plan on spending your entire life with her. Tsar will seem like a tiny ant. My Bell can be monstrous at times. Your relationship is new; give it some time.”

“I know that she is very sassy and exceptionally good with words. Bell can convince anyone,”

“That is true. When Bell was young, she convinced everyone in the family that it is okay to go to Disneyland instead of school. It was four days ofMickey and Minnie House, pure hell.” Damien shook his head.

I smiled softly.

“You seem close to Bell and Winnie,”

“I am their Godfather, and I don’t have a family of my own. They are

like my daughters,” Damien admitted.

I nodded.

“But that’s not what I want to talk about. Bell will be going to New York. What do you plan on doing about it?”

“I have an entire security team trained and ready to protect Bell, I hope that will be sufficient while I mend things with my family. I plan on getting inside the city to finish off Tsar once and for all,”

“I will make sure that my agents are around too, I will share their details with you, and you can forward it to your security team. This is going to bevery extensive.”

“I will make it happen. Tsar will not even touch a hair on her head.”

Damien nodded.“I will go and inform Bell about it,”

“Malcolm will escort you to her room,” I motioned for Malcolm to escort Damien. He did so without any word.

“Well looks like you are getting along with Damien,” Victor said.

“It is still a long way, Victor. There is so much left to do. Killing Tsar for starters.”

“I cannot wait to see his dead body,” Alexander snarled, “he destroyed everything for us. I fucking hate that man.”

“We are stronger this time, Ambrose,” Victor said, “not only do we have our army, but the feds will be working with us too. Now, we need to

get stronger. We will have to call a meeting amongst all the Capos. Every family needs to be present. From the Germans to the Italians. It is time we are united and not fall prey to the evil schemes of Tsar Smirnov.”

Victor was right.

“Alexander, you will leave for New York City with Bell,” I instructed.

“Alright, but what about you?”

“Oh, I am right behind you. Tsar isn’t the only one good at hiding. It is time I enter my city, my home.”

Alexander nodded.

“You will call a meeting amongst all the members of the family and other syndicates. That is when I will let my presence be known.”

“Father will revolt.”

“Father is upset, but he will get over it once he knows the real reason behind my ‘betrayal’”

“We can only pray,”

I could only pray. On the inside, the mere thought of seeing my father made me want to shit my pants. That man held a strong power over me, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
