Extra Chapter: Weddings

My heart beats out of my chest as a hairstylist messes around with the natural curls on the top of my head, partially trimming them off. My hands become clammier than they were when I woke up this morning while I try to clear my head from anything that could slow me down. I’ve been ready for this day since I first told Amaya how in love I am with her.

“Are you almost done? It’s almost time,” Xavier reminds us from the side of the room where the others stand watching us. Aaron is in his arms, staring at me with a bright smile; his hair is combed to the side perfectly woven to the point that you can still see the natural waves. Dylan ended up fixing him up and I’m glad he did.

“Yes, Xavier, we are,” I say as I stare down at my hair trimmings that rest on the ground. The stylist steps away from me before moving to the door with a smile, his hickory colored eyes brighter than day.

“You’re all done and I wish you luck on this new chapter in your life.” I thank him before he walks out of the room and I stand from my seat to look in the mirror.

My hand reaches to my freshly shaven face that feels baby soft and makes me look cleaner than ever along with this smooth ass suit that is only a few shades off from my hair, a button-up white shirt, and a pitch-black tie. This is the fanciest I’ve ever dressed.

“Wow, who knew you knew how to clean up?” Dylan jokes before the others laugh at him, I don’t think it was all too funny though. I walk up to them.

“Apparently Amaya didn’t think of it as much of a surprise.” I shrug while looking over to Aaron’s whose smile is ever-growing.

“I can’t believe you’re the first one of us to get married,” Cody says while looking to the other guys who each nod except for Jonah.

“What makes you so surprised, each of you has known for the longest that I wanted nothing more than to marry her. I came to every one of you asking for advice on how I should propose.” Xavier comes a bit closer to place a hand on my shoulder; Aaron copies the motion.

“Each time you said you were going to do it you ended up wussing out of it to the point that we thought you’d never do it and Amaya would have to be the one to propose. Not that she wouldn’t, because she definitely would.” Knowing my girl, that’s sure is a possibility. “Sometimes we have to work on impulse, but make it beautifully impulsive.”

“I mean, I think the first time I did it that it turned out pretty good and in a sense was “beautifully impulsive”, but that’s my opinion anyway. I guess I was just really scared, you know?” Aaron pokes me in the cheek before letting out a loud laugh that echoes through the room enough to make me smile. “What’s so funny?” I look into his shimmering green eyes that are so damn precious.

“Just like you were scared to ask Mommy out,” he bursts out before I start to shush him, he proceeds to get that much louder.

“That was supposed to be our secret.” Aaron shakes his head.

“Damn, that’s got to hurt, your son just exposed you.”

Jonah’s got a bright smile as I just ignore the major urge to walk up to him and ruffle up his hair. It’d get him the perfect level of bothered but there are things I need to do, marrying his sister being top on the list and he needs to be there for it, without him, it wouldn’t feel right.

“You know what, Jonah, you can k-”

A knock sounds at the door, interrupting my comment that probably wouldn’t have been very appropriate for Aaron to hear anyway.

I pull the door open to reveal Mom with Cyrus in her arms who immediately reaches over to me when his eyes land on me.

“Hi, Cyrie,” I say while pulling him into my arms. His hand bunch up in my tux as his head falls on my shoulder. “Hi Mom, how’s your day been so far?” I ask while swaying with Cyrus in my arms.

“Well, I’ve been with your fiancée” -it feels good to hear that- “and the little flower girl, not to mention this little man.” Right as the words leave her mouth Cyrus locks eye-contact with me, giving me no choice but to stare into the eyes that he shares with his mother, but what gets me the most is his freckles. Those are nothing but me. “And now you’re getting married.”

I pull her into a hug as she starts to wipe away at the tears that start to fall down her cheeks.

“Don’t cry.” I start to rub her back. If she continues to cry, I’m going to cry too.

“I know I shouldn’t, but God I’m so happy for you, I remember when you guys were just little kids running around on the playground. You’ve been in love with her since day one and I could see it whenever the two of you were together and now you’re marrying her.” Mom sniffles out before pulling away from me to point towards Xavier. “Now you’re both fathers and God, you’re just so grown up now.”

Not only is Xavier Cameron’s dad, legally now, but Charlie ended up giving birth to another boy, Liam Connor Harper who is now three months old. He’s transitioned pretty well to the life, loves every second of it actually.

“It’s crazy to see how you guys went to being the twins’ size and age to… this.”

Cyrus lets out a small sneeze, making all eyes fall on him; I rub his back before kissing his forehead.

“Bless you,” we all say in unison.

“Are you gonna cry when I get married, Mama?”

“Maybe out of relief,” Mom answers with a smile before wiping away her tears.

“Well damn, I love you too?” Xavier makes sure to hoist Aaron up a bit higher in his arms. I laugh while clearing my throat and looking to both of my boys as they smile. I can’t help but wish Amaya and Iris were in here with us, allowing me to take my whole family in together.

“Oh come on, you know I’m only joking. Speaking of you getting married, you should work on that soon.” Xavier’s cheeks become bright red while I smirk at him. Now who’s scared to ask the question?

Mom switches around to stare me down.

“You ready to get married?”

“I’m readier than I’ve ever been in my life,” I say as Cyrus begins to stir in my arms, I stare down at him. “I’ve felt what life is like without her in it and that pain ran so deep, but now she’s back with me and I’m never gonna have to feel that again. I wouldn’t change a thing.” Damn, I’m gonna make myself cry.

I ruffle up the short midnight black curls on top of Cyrus’s head before he gives me a baby’s equivalent to a glare. Somehow he’s still so cute.

“I don’t think he liked that too much.” Aaron leans a bit closer to Cyrus, reaching a hand out to smooth the curls out that fell forward. “Lo arregló.” A smile makes an appearance on each of their faces.

Every single day I find myself wondering at least once how I got so lucky to end up with such an amazing family, a lot of that coming from Aaron himself. On the day the twins came into this world, he took each of their hands in his own, placed a kiss on Iris’s forehead before doing the same to Cyrus, then whispered out, “Siempre te protegeré. Te amo.”

Amaya had to translate it to me, but I swear to God I cried when I found out he whispered, “I’ll always protect you. I love you.”

It was a relief to know that he wasn’t scared of being replaced but genuinely loved them even though that was the first time he had been meeting them.

“You know, Aaron, you’re a great big brother,” Mom tells him before he shrugs his shoulders at the compliment.

“I just do what Mommy and Daddy do for me, it’s also not hard to tell when he wants something, and what it is. Iris is the same.” He makes sure not to break eye-contact with his brother who seems so damn intrigued by him.

“It’s time to head out there, Shawny,” Eli says as he enters the room.

“Uncle Eli!” Aaron hops down from Xavier’s arms to run over to Eli who holds his arms out for him to jump into.

“I thought you weren’t coming.” I head over to them before pulling him in for a hug.

“Yeah well, I couldn’t exactly miss my baby bro’s wedding, could I?” I smile at him. “On a completely unrelated note, I may need to find a new job for telling my boss he can shove it after he told me I was supposed to stay there.” He scratches the back of his neck.

“You can work at the restaurant until you find another job if you want, of course,” Dylan offers up.

“I think I’d like that.” Eli smirks while hugging Aaron a bit closer.

“Cool, I’ll let Dad know during the reception, now let’s go before Amaya ends up walking out to think you left her at the altar.” I wouldn’t ever, not to mention that she’d kill me if I even thought about it for a second.

“Smart.” I lean forward to place a kiss on Aaron’s forehead. “Who’s taking Cyrie?”

“Dibs!” Jonah jumps forward to take his nephew into his arms.

I walk out of the door to walk down the aisle to stand on the exact place I practiced standing last night, but now I’m here. This time, Amaya’s gonna walk in here as my fiancée but walk out as my wife.

The world around me seems to just speed by, following my heartbeat that pounds out of my chest. My only actual reaction starts up when Iris starts to come down the aisle and instead of gradually placing down flower petals she throws it over her head.

“All done!”

I chuckle along with everyone else in the room as two petals land on her mess of brown hair, those green eyes shining before she waves to me.

“Hi, Princessa.” Iris runs over to Mom.

“She’s something else,” Xavier laughs out.

“Yeah, she is, just like her momma.”

“You are my favorite whipped man, you know that?” A hand claps down onto my shoulder for a side-hug.

“And you are my favorite whipped man. We all can see how happy you are when you’re with Charlie and your children, you should pop the question soon too, I’ll tell you at the reception how it all feels.”

“I might be down.”

Amaya P.O.V.

Walking towards Shawn who stares me down with those intense ass green eyes full of nothing but happiness is enough for me to take a mental image, saving it in my mind for later. That same way he looks at me, well it has been that way for a while so I shouldn’t exactly be shocked. I can tell he feels like I make up his world, and maybe I do, but he makes mine just as much along with our children.

“May I ask who is giving our bride away?”

I look at my teary-eyed father. “Her dad.” He makes sure to place a kiss on the cheek with a friendly squeeze of my hand. “You best treat her right, Shawn.”

“I will.” I have no doubt in my mind.

“Hi, Wonder Woman,” Shawn greets me while reaching out to take my hands in his own, I allow him to with a small smile.

God, I hate dresses, but he’s the only one I’ll wear them for.

“Wonder Bear.”

“You look gorgeous,” he whispers out before looking me up and down shamelessly

“And you look dapper.” His hands drop my own to wrap around my waist instead.

“Dapper enough to take you home tonight?” His voice sounds so damn husky that I can’t help but take in a shaky breath.

I open my mouth, about to respond. “I think you might want to start the ceremony before they show you how they ended up with three children.” Xavier makes sure to clear his throat at the end; Shawn gives him a single look that has him back up a bit to rock on the balls of his feet.

“We can leave that to your imagination, I’m somewhat appropriate when my angels are around, though, to any of you with children, your guess is as good as mine with the twins. Aaron on the other hand, I know exactly how he happened.” I lightly shove him before he lets out a small laugh.

I can’t believe I’m about to promise my life to this dumbass. My dumbass.

The officiant looks between the two of us with nothing but wonder and I can’t help but smile because that’s how I look on a day-to-day basis.

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the joining of Amaya Wolff and Shawn Harper in holy matrimony…” I stare Shawn down, waiting to get to the vows that I honestly threw together last night because no words described perfectly how he makes me feel. What he makes me feel waking up to his face every morning and falling asleep with his arms wrapped around my waist.

“Would you like to say your vows first, Amaya?” I nod slowly.

“Shawn, I’m coming right out and saying it, I’ve got almost no words for you. When I’m with you, God it’s like all I can do is draw blanks and maybe that might be a problem, but you, you aren’t perfect. I’m not perfect. I’m dysfunctional as all hell, and at a point not so long ago I was scared to stay with you.

“Not because of you, but because of me. I never wanted to allow myself the opportunity to fall so incredibly hard for someone that I could spend my entire life with. Then comes along this feeling in my chest whenever I used to see your freckle-covered face, green eyes that brightened every time you’d look at me, and that damn smile. You are my best friend that has been with me since the day you came crashing into me on the first day of kindergarten.”

His smile becomes that much brighter.

“That day was the beginning for us. The start of me falling so damn hard for you that I swear the longest I’ve gone without thinking about you is a minute each time. I love you and I love the life that you’ve given me, even before we started dating when you would hold me until I fell asleep on the especially hard days. I thank you for still being there for me when you found out about everything without even judging me or Jonah.

“I’m ready to start forever with you, I actually can’t wait for it. I’m done pushing you away, it doesn’t do anyone any good and it kills me slowly. I need you. So I promise until the day I take my final breath that I’m going to constantly prove to you how much you mean to me. And I love you so damn much for taking those chances on your heart when I was stubborn. I thank you for not giving up on me because let’s face it, I’m one of the most complex women you’ll ever come across,” I finish before a chorus of “hell yeah” meets my ears.

Shawn sniffles and I can tell he’s close to tears as he looks up to the ceiling for about ten or so seconds.

“Wonder Woman, you are complicated as hell, but trust me, whenever it comes to you I’m always going to be down for a challenge. I knew from the beginning that falling in love with you and pursuing a relationship would end excruciatingly painful on some days. That’s what happens with every relationship at some point at another, not to mention that I went for the bad girl’s love which means especially hard days.

“I know you’ve been hurt before, baby, when you feel pain I feel it too. I remember your 12th birthday I ended up destroying my room because I found out you couldn’t come over to have one day to enjoy yourself from what could be known as hell. Mom and Dad had to hold me a solid hour to stop me from doing further damage.” I wish he told me sooner, I mean, it wouldn’t have done anything, but it’s good to know. “That was also one of the first nights I snuck over to your house in the middle of the night, I had this piece of cake, red velvet because it’s your favorite, and a brand new copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince since Jonah stole your last one.”

I still have that book.

“I wish you could know how precious those smiles are to me. Every single one of them, I’d give so much up, even for it to be there for just a minute. You are so damn worth it. I love you, Amaya, I’ve always loved you, even on the days where you felt like you couldn’t love yourself. I can love you up until you can learn to love yourself, and even then, I’ll still love you and worship you.” I bite my lip as he continues to hold me closer.

Everyone around us awws, except for Aaron who just stands right beside Shawn, staring up at us like we’re the most interesting people in the world to him.

“I’m always going to fight for you. I’m addicted to you no matter how complex you are. We’re each so complicated, and I think that’s why we work so well together because we’ll do anything for those that we love. For you, Aaron, Cyrus, and Iris each I would give the world. Do whatever it takes to make sure you have everything you could ever need.

“God knows I’m ready for the rest of our lives too. I couldn’t care less that our story happened out of order because it’s ours and ours alone. Nobody else can have that and I swear with all of you hearing it too if someone comes into our lives wanting my girl or our family their hand will be permanently marked with my fist.” Someone’s still possessive. I guess that’s something that will never change whether he’s about to turn twenty or not.

Shawn subtly reaches down to fist bump Aaron who returns it.

“This little man can hold me to that.”

Those eyes land on me with nothing but love and adoration.

“To the moment you’ve each been waiting for… Do you, Shawn Matthew Harper, take Amaya Santana Wolff to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love and to hold? To cherish through sickness and in health till death do its part?”

Those piercing green eyes never leave my own.

“I do.”

The same thing is repeated, this time our names are flipped around. Obviously, I say “hell yeah”, which has everyone laughing.

Aaron, already knowing what was going on, holds the rings up for us.

“I love you,” we say in unison once they’re on our ring fingers.

“By the power invested in me by the state of California, I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Harper, you may now kiss the bride.”

“Don’t have to tell me twice,” Shawn says before placing his lips on my own. He doesn’t even try to make it light or anything but instead, this kiss that I know is gonna have me panting after.

“Ayy, Mommy, Daddy, we’re all still here. Stop now,” Aaron whines out as he gets between our legs and starts to push us away from each other. “Come on…”

“Alright, alright, damn, can’t even kiss my wife in peace without this kid getting in the way.” Shawn’s smile never leaves his face before he bends down to throw Aaron over his shoulder like a sack of flour. “Let’s go to this reception before I decide it’s time to go home for some R-rated fun.”

“Christ Shawn.”

“What? We have three children, these comments shouldn’t surprise you,” he chuckles out before Iris makes her way over to him and Cyrus comes up to me. I lift him up and into my arms as Shawn does the same with our daughter, but he has to be extra careful so Aaron doesn’t fall from his shoulders. “Hi, Princessa.”

“Daddy!” She places a sloppy kiss on his cheek.

“What am I, chopped liver?”

Cyrus’s hand lands on my cheek before he pecks my forehead. “Thanks, Cyrie.” I rub his back while his soft curls brush up against my neck.

I could definitely spend the rest of my life like this happily.
