I sat in class physically whilst mentally I was much further away. Ray kept glancing at me with worry, so I gave her a small smile, trying to reassure her. My phone vibrated in my pocket and I jumped, still not used to the intrusion a mobile phone provided.
Have lunch with me. Away from school if its easier. - B
How did he always seem to know what to say? I didn’t reply, remembering Elenas warning. My phone vibrated again and I saw another text.
Stop being a cliche. Answer me, hot geek. -B x
Fine. Away from school. X
I grinned to myself as Ray raised an eyebrow at me inquisitively. I shrugged and glanced at the clock on the wall. Twenty minutes until lunch.
I stood outside school awkwardly wondering where he was. I caught sight of him jogging towards me and my heart soared. He held his hands up in mock submission, his sleeves rolled up revealing those tanned arms.
‘Sorry, had to deal with Elena.’
My heart dropped when he said her name and he frowned at me, his blue eyes darkening.
I looked around suspiciously as though she was going to jump out at us.
‘She’s hard work. Shall we go?’
I bit my lip and he stopped walking away, his hand reaching out to mine. I pulled it back like I had been burnt and he frowned.
‘Right, whats wrong?’ he demanded, his eyes narrowing as he glared at me.
‘You know how we spoke about cliches....’ I began quietly.
‘Well Elena is one too. She is the bitch that comes between the jock and the geek.’ Our eyes met then and he made a face.
‘God, what has she said now?’ He sighed in exasperation as he reached for me, his fingers lacing mine against his despite me trying to move them away. He pulled me towards him so I could smell the mint on his breath as he held me close to him.
‘She said she knows some things about you...if I didn’t keep away from you she would expose you. She said she’d ruin you.’
I looked up at him through my lashes and noticed his jaw clenching as he swore.
‘She’s a fucking nightmare. She’s got nothing, trust me. What were you gonna do anyway, avoid me?’ He looked at me, his hand tipping my head back to meet his bemused expression.
‘Yeah it crossed my mind.’
‘Fuck that.’ He said, bringing his lips to mine. This time I didn’t push him away, I actually responded to him the way I wanted to.
‘Jesus Bailey, she was a fucking bet.’ I felt him tense up as he moved away to face Chase and some other guys grinning at us.
‘She’s not a fucking bet.’ he growled, his hand still on mine.
’Chill, you haven’t got any competition for her. Theres much hotter girls here.′ I closed my eyes as embarrassment washed over me.
‘Yeah? Where?’ Bailey replied calmly.
‘Come on bro-’
‘Don’t fucking bro me.’
Chase and Bailey were now standing head to head, Bailey broader but Chase slightly taller.
‘Fine. When you’ve got over it, get back to me. She will never be one of us.’ Chase spat, glaring at me over Baileys shoulder. Why does he hate me so much?
Bailey turned back to me, pulling me towards his car wordlessly. I followed him, his anger coming off him like smoke. We sat in his car for a minute as he stared ahead, tapping his hand on the steering wheel.
‘Bailey. He’s right you know. I won’t ever be one of you.’
He turned to look at me with a look of disgust on his face.
‘I’d rather be one of whatever you are, than anything they are. Theres something about you Annabelle, I just feel drawn to you. I had no intention to, well. Feel how I do about you.’ His voice was hoarse as he stared at me, his hand on mine.
‘How do you feel about me?!’ I squeaked out as he laughed softly.
‘Lets get some food. I’m starving.’ He smirked and I rolled my eyes. He started the car and drove to a diner not far from school which had more students in from school than our canteen probably had.
‘Argh. Want me to go somewhere else?’ He asked as we surveyed the diner with annoyance.
‘Elena will make my life hell Bailey.’
‘Look, nothing is going on with me and Elena, but theres something going on with me and you. I couldn’t care less what people say, let them talk.’
I felt tingles all over me when he spoke about us in that way and I shrugged.
‘Or, we can go to mine and I can look at that outfit in more detail.’
I opened the car door as he laughed, slamming his door as he followed me to the diner. When I walked in it was like the diner took a deep breath, all eyes on us. ‘Are you going to walk in or stand here waiting for an invitation?’ His voice murmured in my ear as his hands slipped around my waist, pushing me forward playfully.
I flushed scarlet as I walked forward, feeling sick as everyone stared at us in disbelief.
‘The cliche is alive and well.’ I muttered and he laughed. We found an empty booth and I sat in front of him, shaking my head.
‘What is going on Bailey, really?’ I asked quietly.
‘Well, I would say they are in shock at two things. One is that the infamous Bailey Fenton has been seen with a mystery girl for the third or fourth time in a row. The second is that I seem quite serious about her.’
‘It won’t last.’ I shrugged and he laughed.
‘Numerous reasons. One, you’ll get bored. Two, you’ll get distracted. Three, you’ll be sexually starved.’
He pretended to consider my words, his blue eyes twinkling as he leaned forward.
‘One, I’m already sexually starved. Two, you are all I can think about. Three, you couldn’t bore me if you tried.’
I burst out laughing.
‘So prove it.’
He frowned as his eyes ran over the menu, my body craving him to look at me like that.
‘You are complicated Miss Aurelle. Ok, how do I prove it?’
‘I’ll make a deal with you. It won’t be the first time we have made one, but maybe this time you’ll be honest.’ I teased as he leaned back in his seat, his eyes running over me slowly.
‘What? Sorry, I was distracted. By you.’
I felt heat spreading over my body as the waitress came over to take our order. When she left I took a deep breath.
‘You can’t fuck around. Prove to me you can be with one girl, prove you’ll still want me without sex.’
He blinked as he leaned forward, his hands on mine.
‘Erm, this sounds like a piece of cake. Is the girl you?’ He smiled then and I bit my lip.
‘You want to make it official? I can do that.’
My blood ran cold as I heard a familiar voice.
‘Bailey! Hey! Are you-’ It stopped short when she reached our table, her mouth falling open.
‘You’ve got to be shitting me, are you fucking serious right now?’
‘Elena, I was just thinking about you.’ Bailey said softly, his eyes on hers as she gave me a death stare before turning to him.
‘Of course you were.’ She said sweetly.
‘Do you know how to update a relationship status on facebook?’ He asked innocently as I gaped at him. She folded her arms as she tilted her head to the side.
‘I just wanted to update mine.’ He shrugged casually as he gazed at her.
The diner was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. I felt like I couldn’t breathe, the blood rushing in my ears was so loud.
What was he doing?!
′But then I thought, the only person that needs to know about it is you, seeing as you don’t seem to be getting the fucking message.′ He said quietly, an air of fury in his voice. He drummed his fingers on the table as he watched her.
She blinked as if he had slapped her, as she turned to look at me with a deadly stare.
’So I am with Annabelle, Elena. She is my girlfriend, I am her boyfriend, we are together. You are a nasty bitch, and I wish I had never had anything to do with you. Now its time for you to fuck off back to wherever you came from and start spilling whatever secrets it is of mine you have.′
‘You will both regret this.’ She hissed as she whirled on her heel, heading for the door blindly. I sat completely still, reeling from what had just happened.
Bailey Fenton is my boyfriend?
