Anne curled up on the leather sofa in her office and turned off the lights. Everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours played endlessly in her mind.
She let her eyes roam out of the window to the falling rain, wondering how she had let a man take her life apart so easily.
That is what happens when you play with fire, she thought.
Guilt was an emotion new to her, and she felt it burn through her blood like lava now. She had betrayed the one man she had promised eternal devotion to and if that was not enough, she had to come to terms with her new reality.
She opened the small box in her hands and flipped open the emergency contraception pill.
For a long moment, she just stared at it.
Would it work and actually do what it was supposed to do?
Did she really want to take it and rid herself of maybe the last chance she had to have the child of the man she loved grow inside her?
She swallowed the pill, feeling her heart beat fast and her hands sweat.
Get a grip, she scolded herself silently. Everything is going to be all right.
