Chapter 20

Zach’s POV:

I was made the captain of the basketball team and I was happy.

I tried to talk to Noah about how I think that Lauren is just using him for getting her revenge against Ivy but he just wouldn’t listen.

Ivy was quite for the rest of the day. The whole school supported her not only because she was the school’s sweetheart, because she was right in punching Lauren and Noah wasn’t.

She was exceptionally quite.

We decided that we would ditch the bus and go in my car. I was going to drop her at home every day.

“Hey Ivy. What’s happened is happened. Now leave it. Noah and Lauren got what they deserved. Now tell me want to go to my house today and have a sleep over? It’s Saturday anyways” I suggested.

She was the first girl whom I have asked for a sleepover.

“Are you sure?” she asked looking up after the whole day. She had a tiny smile on her face.

“Sure let me call up my mom and you know let her know that you are coming,” I say taking out my phone, “but first inform your mom.”

“Hello mom. I am calling to ask you if I could stay over at Zach’s today and come home tomorrow,” she said.

“But don’t you have for basketball practice tomorrow anyways?” I overheard her mom saying it, “or I will just come and drop off your kit at Zach’s house. It will also be like I met his mom,” she says.

Not a bad idea.

“Ok mom sure I’ll send you the address as soon as I reach home. Bye. Tell dad also,” she says before telling me that she will be coming over today with a smile.

Man! I have missed that smile all day.

I call up my mom and she was ok with it.

“But Zach I have nothing to wear,” she says looking up innocently.

“You can wear my clothes,” I said calmly.

I honestly don’t know why I was calm. Like, I never give my clothes to anyone. I didn’t even give it to my girlfriend when she had no clothes. Instead I bought her new clothes.

“You sure about that?” she asks.

I reply with a yes.

She turned on the radio and started singing along with Dean Lewis- Be Alright. It was one of my favourite songs too. It says so much about heartbreak and the lyrics have so much meaning to it.

"I look up from the ground
To see your sad and teary eyes
You look away from me
And I see there’s something you’re trying to hide
And I reach for your hand but it’s cold
You pull away again" i sing my part and stop hoping she would continue. i knew she loved this song too.

“And I wonder what’s on your mind.” She said and stopped and I continued as if on cue.

“Then you say that you made a dumb mistake, you start to tremble and your voice begins to break,” I sing my part and stop.

“You say the cigarettes on the counter weren’t your friends they were my mates,” Ivy sang with her voice matching with that of Dean Lewis.

God she sings well.

“And I feel the colour draining from my face, and my friend said,” I heard her voice shiver as if she was getting emotional. But it was only for a split second.

“I know you love her but it’s over mate. It doesn’t matter put the phone away. It’s never easy to walk away. Let her go, it’ll be alright,” we sing the chorus part together.

We say ending the song together.

“I didn’t know you sing well Zach,’ Ivy said smiling.

“Nonsense,” I said driving.

On the way home I stop near Starbucks because I knew Ivy loved Starbucks.

“Mocha Frappuccino with extra whipped cream right?” I ask getting out of the car.

“You don’t have to do that Zach,” she said but I could see it in her eyes that she was craving for her favourite drink. I knew that I got it correct.

“But I want to. Sit back. I’ll get it for you,” she took out a $20 note giving it to me.

“No it’s my treat for you for becoming the basketball captain,” I knew I had her there and went to get it for her.
