Chapter 49

Pretoria.

The administrative capital of South Africa. It was a lovely city. My car passed by the jacaranda trees planted in its streets, parks and gardens, I peeked through the windows towards the new place, that I was visiting.

It was my first time in Pretoria and I took my father’s private jet to reach and reached Pretoria in just fourteen hours. I asked Noah to find out about Veronica and he told me that she was actually from Cape town but shifted to Pretoria a year ago and now she was in Pretoria doing her business.

I was dying to meet her again. She told me, she wouldn’t message or text me until I reply and as I didn’t reply she didn’t text back being truthful or should I say, adamant to her words. I wonder what she must be doing right now.

“Where are we going?” I asked as I looked to my side to find Noah going through his tab.

“To the horse riding field,” he said and that made me look back at him in confusion.

“Horse riding field?”

“Apparently, I contacted Ms. Sullivan’s secretary and she told me they are in the horse riding field which is owned by Ms. Sullivan herself. She loves horses and horse riding and like to spend most of her time training and being with them,” as he said that I recalled something. Last time when we were talking Veronica did tell me that she likes horse riding and she has been on a volcano trek.

Wow Ace, she told you about the things that she likes, and you shrug it off like its nothing.

This woman surely is adventurous.

“Here we are,” I heard the driver and I looked back at Noah who was looking out of the windshield.

“You asked her secretary? That means she would have already gotten an idea that I am here,” I said thinking that he spoilt my plans.

“No, I just asked I wanted to talk to her regarding work and she told me Ms. Sullivan is actually busy and after asking too much she told me she can’t be disturbed because she is in her horse camp field. After that, I searched everything on my own,” he said and formed his lips in a thin line. I was impressed by the dude. Even though I should have actually told him about why I wanted to give Veronica a surprise, still I couldn’t.

Seeing his closeness with my dad, I knew he would tell him everything and not to say, how dad tagged him along with me for my vacation.

He said Noah needs a vacation too and he would be an absolute companion.

Only I knew, what an absolute companion meant.

It meant, information transformation.

“Well, good job!” I said as I got out of my car and looked towards the vast area. It was a private enclosed area and I looked back at Noah who walked to the gate to talk with the guards. The guards looked back at me and nodded at Noah. The gates were opened and my driver asked me to get back in, but I wanted to walk so, I shook my head no and asked him to go on.

He obliged, as he took the car and entered the horse camp to park inside. While Noah, showed me a direction and I walked up to him. Even though he chose to wear a red polo shirt and normal trousers, like some casual day, he was still working, going through something in that tab of his. I rolled my eyes when he didn’t hand me the tab when I tried to snatch it away, instead he slowed his pace and I ended up walking further into what came like an alley between two buildings, and then I could hear horses neighing and snorting.

I walked further in and ended up in the field where the horses were running and there she was, in the middle with a black horse, leading two horses.

Breathtaking.

Her hair untied, waving in the air as she laughed and patted the horse and all of a sudden they sprinted. I watched as how effortlessly she guided the horse and they jumped some hurdles as she picked up a water bottle from a nearby table and poured down the water on the horse and then drank some, before steadying her pace with the horse.

The horse stood on its hind legs and lifted her up in the air, making her laugh. Her laugh, that I had never heard. Her eyes glistening with joy, her face contouring with bliss as she enjoyed her time. She had astounding equestrian skills.

Comparing to other days, she wore a black vest and skin coloured tight fitted pant with a black belt, boot and gloves. Her skin looked glossy from the amount of time she spend being sporty and I loved seeing that carefree side of hers. This was totally a new sight to behold as I stood near the fence, just watching her when all of a sudden she turned around with the horse and her eyes, finally felt on me.

For some minutes, she squinted her eyes at me before smiling all of a sudden and then she was coming my way when all of a sudden, that smile of hers faded away and she turned back, ignoring my presence.

This action of hers actually looked way beyond cute, as I shook my head and walked into the field towards her.

It seemed she saw me coming from her peripheral vision because she jumped down her horse and patted the horse holding its halter.

“Stonecold, my baby,” I heard her cooing to the horse as I stood right behind her and cleared my throat wanting to gain her attention.

She looked back at me and frowned before looking away avoiding facing me.

“What do you want?” I heard her voice but I was quite not sure what she felt. It was a neutral voice. Sans of any anger or happiness.

“Well, hello to you too,” I gave her a sarcastic reply as she patted her horse totally ignoring me.

“Stonecold do you wanna eat?” she talked to the horse and the beautiful, majestic black horse neighs as he looked down at Veronica.

“What’s this breed called?” I asked changing the topic, since she wasn’t talking or showing me her face.

"Friesian, from Netherlands," she said more like mumble and I nodded even though she couldn't see me.

"So, are you not going to talk to me or face me?" I asked and she refused to face me and didn't even bother to answer as she continued caressing the horse.

"Fine, I traveled fourteen hours to meet you and since you don't look happy, I think I shall just go back taking the next possible flight. It was nice meeting you, Stonecold," I patted the horse who uttered a neigh at me and I was just about to turn when all of a sudden she turned and flung her arms over me catching me off guard. She jumped on me and before I knew it I was already hugging her tight picking her up in the air.

"Can't I be a little upset with you since you didn't even take time to reply to my messages? I thought you were the one ignoring me," I heard her muffled voice and chuckled as I inhaled her scent and caress her hair.

"Ignored you, yes. Then how could I have given you this surprise?" I asked and heard her chuckling as I put her down and she looked up, grinning widely.

"I just wanted a little attention from you," she said and that made me smile as I got hold her of chin and raised her face up "You already have my attention since a long period of time," I said before leaning down and placing a kiss on her lips.

Story time

I used the name "Stonecold" because I went to Matheran two months ago and had a horse ride and the horse name was Stonecold. I loved him and wanted to remember him. So, what's the best way to remember him? :)
Also there were other horses too. My friend was the one who got the black one and his name was Charlie. Since I was riding Stonecold, I couldn't really quite decipher his looks but I had a clear look of Charlie. He was majestic, proudy and adamant lol, he even fled away to the jungle with my friend. Though, I changed the horse breed suiting my story.
I liked Stonecold, Charlie and Cash but ended up choosing Stonecold.

You can see Stonecold in my insta highlight and feed: i_am_sarcastic_queen

Most of my inspirations comes from travelling and trips.
