Chapter 65 Favor

Chapter 65 Favor.

They have now been in their new home for a month, it's now November. Elizabeth is happy and taking it easy, knowing that after the first of the year they will be promoting the second half of the book. So, for now, she and Brian were taking it easy. He has started his new job working with Matt. Things have been running smoothly. They even wanted Tylor to start coming over for weekends. Which also meant Victoria coming to take and pick him up.

Brain let it go this long without letting his son visit only to keep Victoria away. He would travel to his brother's house and visit his son there. Doing his best to keep things peaceful. Ethan at the moment wasn’t a problem. He kept his word and the divorce was running smoothly and papers were being drawn up. It was almost over. He knew that Victoria would start, would make problems. Its the way she always was, what would stop her now? Brian still didn’t want his little secret out. He knew that Elizabeth was still trying to heal from what Ethan did to her. Even though what took place before he met her, he didn't want her to think it could happen again. Or to have second thoughts about this relationship.

He loved being with her, the last month was the best so far. He finally had a real life, a real family. He would go to work and come home to a home-cooked meal. Elizabeth and him sitting down, enjoying the meal and discussing their day. They had more than just sex, it was a connection. He didn't want to lose that for anything.

One day while Brian was at work, Elizabeth was home, still fixing up some loose ends with the house. It was now autumn and she placed mums on the porch and planted them in the drive. She loved to make things look pretty. She finally felt free and herself and she was enjoying every part of it.

Things were different here when she would do something Brian loved it and said thank you. Which only made her want to do more for him. He was the total opposite of Ethan who took everything for granted

While she is outside planting, her cell phone rings, and its Ethan. At first, she wants to just shake it off and let it ring. Feeling what the hell does he have to say now? Then she thinks, he has been doing well, try to behave. So she picks it up.

“Hello Ethan, how are you?” Elizabeth says.

“Not good, I am calling to say my dad passed away. He died of a heart attack.” Ethan states.

“Oh, Ethan, I am so sorry to hear that. My condolences. ” She responds. Trying to hold back her true feelings. The old coot finally got what was coming. But she bites her tongue and behaves.

“Thank you, I know we are not together any longer, but I was hoping you would come in for the funeral. The girls need you. So do I.” Ethan says.

“Oh, I’m not sure Ethan. Your family never really liked me as it was, after all this, I am sure I'm, not your mother's favorite person.” Elizabeth answers.

“Please, as a friend I am asking,” Ethan says.

“Ok, I will see what I can do. Is she going to be there?” Elizabeth asks.

“No, if you come I promise, she will not be anywhere near here. I want you here with me for this. We go way back, no one knows me better than you.” Ethan comments.

“Ok, as long as she isn't there, I will see when the next flight is. I am really sorry Ethan. I know you were close to your father. How is your mother doing?” Elizabeth responds.

“Thank you. Not good, She is falling apart. Dad was sick for a bit, she had to take care of him. She would call even more often then she did before. Saying how much of a burden, he was to her, how she didn’t know what she was going to do. The other day, she even fell and broke her hip. Now she is limping around saying she is in pain and can’t do anything. Me and my sister are taking care of things. My sister more so. She and her husband have been dealing with this the whole time. They are getting tired.” Ethan remarks.

“Patricia has enough on her plate with her kids. We all know that her husband Mike isn't going to put up with your mother. He never has. They never got along, worse then me and her.” Elizabeth replies.

“I know, he is trying at the moment. I just don’t know for how long he will deal with this. He is pretty pissed that its all on him and my sister. I am busy at work, I don't have time for this. Its been a real mess, things just have been going downhill ever since you left.“Ethan responds.

“Your mother is going to have to learn to stand on her own two feet, Ethan. You and your sister can’t always do everything for her. She is supposed to be your parent. Not the other way around. I always shut up because they were your parents but my god she is something else.” Elizabeth admits.

“I know. She isn't an easy woman to get along with. You remember when you met my brother in law what he said about her?” Ethan asks.

“Yes, He told me from the start that she was controlling and overbearing. That he could deal with your father better but he couldn't stand your mother. Both you and your sister just stood there and agreed. I found that to be distasteful since she was your mother and you let him say that about her. Then I met her and understood why.” Elizabeth remarks.

“Yes, I know you put up with a lot being with me. I see it more and more as time goes bye. I am sorry.” Ethan says.

“We can’t go back in time and change it. Just move on from it. I will see what I can do to be there. Tell the girls that I love them, and will be there soon. ” Elizabeth states.

Elizabeth really didn't want to go to this, she knew his family disliked her, she felt the same. This would be the last time hopefully she would have to be in the same room as them. She was going but only for her children. She knew they cared for their grandfather, she wanted to show them that she was still there for them no matter what. Even if it meant going into the fire. And that is what she was doing. Her mother in law would let her have it for everything she has done. She already saw that one coming. What was being belittled, once again? Just be the better person and shake it off.
