Chapter 52. I would know that smile anywhere.
I wasn't raised to worry and run away from problems, I could hear my mother's voice in my mind telling me "for every problem, there's a solution and worrying doesn't solve anything in fact it only made it worse". After about five minutes of overthinking I decided to go back to bed, whatever I was to do it'll come to me after I got some rest.
I felt his wet lips on mine with the smell of toothpaste as he gently tried to awake me from my sleep.
"Morning sleepy head" he said as I opened my eyes and saw his beautiful face staring back at me.
"If this isn't the best way to wake up, I don't know what is"
"Flattery will get you nowhere Miss Lyons" he said with a smile
"I love seeing you smile, it's so beautiful. Everytime you do it, I'm reminded of the very first time we met" I told him
"Really now? He asked.
"Will you be going back to work tomorrow?" He asked
"Oh shit, work!" I sighed as I had completely forgotten about my responsibilities at the car mart. It was a good thing that I had the best personal assistant in the world who held things down in my absence.
"Yeah, I have to go back, I'm sure my boss has noticed my absence by now"
"What if I wanted you to resign?"
"What if you want me to do what?" I stared at him as I couldn't believe what he had just said.
He took a deep breath and folded his arms ready to justify what he said.
"First thing I need you to do is to listen so you can understand and not listen just to respond okay"
I thought about it,
"Okay, fair enough" I told him an I waited for him to speak.
He ran his hand through his beard as he paced back and forth.
"I want you to start over with me, everything new, the baby, the house, everything " he paused and looked at me, I guess he was checking my reaction and facial expression to see what he could gather from it and even though I was panicking on the insides my outward appearance gave nothing away. "So what do you think?" He asked
"Ummm, I'm trying to get my head around the part where you said you want me to resign from my job"
"Yes, I would like you to resign"
"Okay, lets say I resign and then what?" I asked him, curious to hear what his answer would be.
"Then I would help you to open your own car mart If selling cars are your specialty".
I literally stopped breathing. I had to pinch myself just to check if this was another foresight.
"You can't be serious!" I told him
"As a heart attack" he answered while looking me dead in the eye.
I was a person of many words, I was never one to not know what to say about a situation but here I was speechless as a stone. I pinched myself again for another confirmation that this wasn't a dream.
He came and sat beside me on the bed.
"Stop pinching yourself, this is real life, I am here asking you to resign from your workplace and open your own business" he said and took my hand in his.
"You're gonna be broke by the time you're done buying me stuff"
"Broke?" He said with a silly laugh. "You're worried about me being broke?"
"Yes, I don't want you spend all your life savings on me" I told him hoping he would see my point.
"My dads a lawyer, my mom owns the number one selling cosmetic line in the country and I'm the heir to my grandfather's wealth, so trust me, money is never an issue"
Then I remembered who is grandfather was, Senior King was a medical and real estate genius"
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that, but still I don't want you to spend so much money on me"
"Stop using the word 'me' Nicole, it no longer applies to you, you're now a plural"
"Huh?" It was after I said it then I realised how retarded I sounded.
"Its no longer just about you Nicole, you are a mother and a wife to be, so statements like 'don't spend money on me' is not cutting it anymore" he said a bit louder than before to emphasize his point.
"Okay, I get it, you are right, but I need some time to think about it as it will be a huge step for me, I mean for us" I quickly corrected myself.
"Fair enough, on a another topic, be ready in ten minutes we have to get some breakfast and I gotta go to work"
As I was taking a bath when my mind suddenly flashed on Camilla and Mrs Ramirez. There was no mention of a funeral for Camilla or a court date for Mrs. Ramirez's case. I didn't even know if she was still in jail, why were these things being hidden from me? I guess it was because I had enough problems of my own to deal with as I remembered my foresight earlier, but I still needed to know what was going on around me.
I came out the shower and saw Alando on his phone with his face in a scowl.
"Is everything alright?" I asked
"Your ex is suing the hospital"
"That son of a bitch!" I screamed
"Don't worry my dad's on top of it "
"If it's not one thing is the fucking other" I sighed
"Calm down and stop cussing so much, my dad's going to fix things"
"Its not as simple as that Alando"
"What do you mean" he asked
"I had another foresight this morning, telling me to protect you from my past or I would lose you forever"
"Whoa, that can't be good " he replied
"Exactly, my past is Eyan and I have to protect you from him, but I haven't figured out what it is that I need to do as yet"
"I don't see how you can protect me though"
I ignored his last comment and got dressed.
We were ready and about to leave when his father called us from a window upstairs. Alando looked at me and I knew what he was going to ask.
"You wanna come with me to speak to him or you rather stay out here?" He knew how I felt about being in the house from the incident.
"As long as you're with me, I'll be fine"
"Okay" he said as he clasped my hand and we both went inside.
I kept my eyes on the stairs and dared not looked in the direction of the kitchen. I fought hard to keep back the memories of the things that took place there, my day was okay so far and I didn't need anything to mess it up. We entered his parents room where his father was waiting for us with an envelope in his hand.
"Have you seen this shit?" His father asked
"No, I have not seen the actual documents, I only heard about it at work, but I spoke to mom last night and told her to expect the documents though"
Then I remembered last night when he and his mother went outside to have a conversation that must've been what they spoke about I thought.
"It says here you punched him in the mouth and he lost a tooth, why would you even get in a tussle with this man at the job at that?" His father asked
"He's Nicole's ex and he was harassing her so I punched him and had the security guard threw him out" Alando explained.
"Oh, well that explains a lot" he said as his grey eyes stared at me.
You have any witnesses?" He asked
"Yes, Nicole" he responded and his fathers eyes were immediately back on me.
"I'm sorry for causing all this trouble, I hope it can be resolved without getting leaked to the tabloids as we all know how awful they can be" I whispered, just incase that's what he was thinking.
"We don't do the blame game honey, so don't worry about it" Snr. King said to me "I'm just trying to get you guy's version of the incident as that's what's important to me" he continued.
"Okay" I acknowledged.
We both told him what happened, indept and bit by bit, I remained as calm as was possible just so I wouldn't leave anything out.
"Did you do English Literature in school?' His father asked.
I frowned as I thought it was a weird question.
"Eeeeerrrr, yes I did, why do you ask"
"Nothing, it's just how you related the incident to me, showed you have a love for books and story telling, it's really nice to see."
"Thank you" I whispered
"No problem, it's just really nice to see that bibliophilia isn't dead" he said with a smile.
He and Arlando began discussing the way forward with the pending lawsuit and I got lost in my own thoughts of what I was going to do to get Eyan to crawl back into the hole he came out of.
I sat on the chair where Mrs. King began making the mixture for my cosmetic line, I looked at the bottles of stuff she had lined out but I dared not touch anything. Then my eye caught something in the mirror, there was a woman staring back at me. It was the woman from my visions but this time her face was visible and she was beautiful.
She was medium height, with long black hair that passed her shoulders, she looked like she was seventy something years old. There was something familiar about her, like I've seen her before but I couldn't put my finger on it. I stood there staring at her then I realised I was having another foresight. These things always come at the weirdest times, how was I going to explain my sitting still with my eyes opened and not blinking to Alando's father?. I took a deep breath and remained as calm as I could and stared at her trying to figure out where it was that I knew her from.
I braced myself and waited for her to speak but she said nothing she only smiled and I immediately knew that smile, I would know it anywhere, it was the same smile my mother had.
She was my grandmother.
