Chapter 33

“What are you doing? This attitude of yours starts to play on my nerves!”

“You didn’t read my message.”

“Didn’t feel like reading some messages.” I walked around him and headed out to the terrace. Drew caught my arm and stopped me in place. I was furious. “What?!”

“I want to talk to you.”

“No, thank you. I came here to have some fun and spend time without any drama. If you won’t let me, okay, I will ask Logan to bring me back to his parents’ house.”

“You won’t do it.”

“Try me, Drew. I am sick and tired of your schemes. I just want you to leave me alone. That’s all I am asking from you. For fuck’s sake, leave me alone!”

Drew’s hands clenched in fists. He was furious, just like me. We stared at each other. I was tired because of this. I wanted to have at least one calm day. I heard footsteps and then Lily’s voice.

“Is everything okay?” Her eyes darted between us. She tried to understand what happened.

“Yeah, just talking. Let’s go outside, Lil. I want to eat.” I walked to her and went to the terrace. I took some steps and plopped myself on the couch. Lily and Drew also followed me outside. He didn’t look at me, and he came to Logan, who was standing near the barbeque.

I drank two bottles of beer and ate salad and a small piece of steak. I was talking with Lily almost all this time. Kate was sitting with Tim, but from time to time, she had been joining our conversation. Logan and Drew left for some time to talk over the phone. I guessed that girlfriends tried to control their boyfriends. Logan returned with a smile, while Drew was visibly upset and even angry. After some time, we all were gathered around the small table.

“So, guys, what’s our plan for tomorrow?” Tim asked, looking at each of us.

“I was thinking, could we go hiking? Like old times, what do you say?” Drew asked. His mood changed a little, but I guess it was all because of alcohol.

“Great idea, man!” Logan and Tim answered almost in unison.

“Yeah! It would be great!” Lily was delighted. I started to look forward to this trip. If only Drew will behave.

I yawned, it was already close to midnight.

“I know that I will sound like a mood killer, but maybe someone could show me to my room? Lily?” I should have said her name from the start because now Logan and Drew were looking at me.

“Of course! Let’s go! I also want to go to bed early. We will leave in the morning, right?” We stood up from the couch.

“Around 10? Breakfast at 9?” Logan asked, and everyone nodded in agreement.

“Night!” We said and walked to the house, then to the second floor. The first room was for Kate and Tim, then for Logan, next for Lily and only then mine.

“And Drew? Where will he be sleeping? Just out of curiosity!” I laughed because of Lily’s expression.

“Mind I remind you that he has a girlfriend. Remember about this. Okay?”

“Okay. I’m not going to sleep with him if you’re thinking about it. Don’t worry.”

“I just don’t want you to get hurt, that’s all...”

“It’s fine. I get it, really. Night, Lily.”

We both walked to our rooms, closing our doors at the same time. My room was in light colors, with a small wardrobe and a double bed in the center. I placed my things to the closet and went to the bathroom to wash my face. I guess, if I want to take a shower, I will need to go to the first floor because I saw the shower cabin there. For tonight, I will be okay without it, but tomorrow I will go there.

I put on my shorts and a loose t-shirt and hid under the blanket on the bed. It felt so good. Soon enough, I was asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night because I felt someone’s arms hugging me from behind. With difficulty, I wiggled out of this grip and turned around. It was Drew, and he was fully dressed in his t-shirt and black sweatpants. We were facing each other; his hands snuck back to me and landed on my hips. I was staring hard at him while he was lying with eyes closed.

“Drew!” I hissed. I didn’t want to wake the whole house up. With moonlight in my room, I could only see his features.

“Rebecca, please... I just want... To stay with you till the morning comes... I won’t try anything. I swear!” He whispered, but I heard the sadness in his voice. Should I let him stay? The reasonable answer was “no”, but who was I kidding? Seeing him so vulnerable made me crack inside. I still have feelings for this asshole.

“You will leave this room in the morning, so no one will know that you were here. Deal?”

“Scout promise.” Drew’s face lightened up with his smile. Oh God, he was a gorgeous guy and so captivating!

I turned to the left side and moved closer to him. My back was pressed to his chest. Instantly he hugged me, placing his hands on my belly. I covered them with mine, letting him entwine our fingers. Drew pushed my hair from my shoulder and kissed my neck. I heard him whispering into my ear.

“I promised you. I just want to hold you, Becca... I missed this...” I felt happiness spreading over my body. “Good Lord, Becca... What are you doing to me?... I am totally under your spell, and it’s like you bewitched me... So beautiful and so gorgeous... And your smell... it drives me crazy... I am crazy about you... And I am a fucking idiot, who screwed everything up...”

Did he know how glad I was to hear it? I didn’t want to get carried away with his words. I heard them enough. If he wanted to be with me, we should talk, and he will need to break up with Phoebe. Only like that. I felt my eyelids getting heavier and heavier. Soon I fell asleep, feeling completely safe in Drew’s arms.
