Chapter 13

Six months later...

"Hows the Harris case going?" Mr. Vons asked me in our morning meeting.

"It's going well sir, I'm sure Mr. Harris will end up with the children. The wife has incriminated herself, sir." I said.

"Sounds good Miss Walker, keep up the good work. This will be your third win in the last four months." My boss said. I was pretty pleased with myself. I wasn't working for a high-end law firm. The firm was a small one, Mr. Von owns the company and there are only five lawyers here. Me being one of them. We deal with mostly, divorce cases. I've been here six months now and I love it. The heat sucks, but other than that my life is pretty quiet. I haven't heard from Vincent since the day I kicked him out of my apartment. I barely hear from Richard.

The day I left for Texas, Richard showed up and we sat down and had a very long talk. Vincent had caused a huge issue when he got home that day and Richard came to me. We talked about everything and he gave me all his reasons behind why things went the way they went. I was very upset with him, but I did make him promise to leave Spencer alone. I just wanted to move on and I didn't want Spencer hurt in the procces. As far as things with Vincent. Richard didn't let me know anything about him. Richard and I only talk about once a week. So I'm really on my own out here. "Hey Page, are you heading out soon?" Jacob asked with his head sticking in my office.

"Yeah. I'm almost done, why what's up?" I asked him.

"A few of us are going for drinks you want to join?" Jacob was a nice guy. He was in his late thirties and had been with the firm for almost ten years.

"I have so much work to do tonight. I think I'll pass, but don't stop asking. I might go one night." I said and smiled at him.

"Okay Page, have a good night." He said and headed out of the office. I don't do a whole lot of socializing. I don't know why. I guess I'm just having a hard time letting new people in. I do however talk to Abby nightly. She is the one person I talk to about everything. She and Seth might also be moving here to Huston. It's not a for sure thing yet, but it is up in the air. She thinks I'm just being paranoid about letting people in and thinks that I need to stop acting like a baby, as she puts it. I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm just comfortable with how things are. No drama, no problems.

"I got home that night and turned my tv on. I went to the kitchen to make myself some dinner. I set my phone down on the counter and pulled out stuff for a sandwich. I then grabbed my food, slipped off my shoes and had a seat in front of the TV.

It looks like another big case for the top lawyer in New York. Spencer Allans team goes head to head once again with the Bailey family. As Richard Bailey, head of the Bailey family faces murder charges.

What the fuck? I said to myself. I pulled out my phone and called Richards cell phone.

"Princess, how are you?" He asked me.

"Oh no, what the hell is going on now?"

"What do you mean?"

"Richard, I saw the news,"

"Oh that, please don't worry your head princess. It's just a misunderstanding. You know how the press likes to overdo it. I will be fine."

"No you won't, this is Spencer were talking about," I said. I heard him take a deep breath.

"Liston to me Page, stay out of it. I promise everything will be okay once this is all over." He said in a deep voice. "I will stay in touch, okay." We hung up and I went into my contacts and found Spencer's cell number. Please, oh please still be the same number. I dialed and waited.

"Spencer, what the hell are you doing?" I asked him.

"Page, Josh is dead." My heart stopped.

"Josh is dead and Richard Bailey killed him." His words hit me like a ton of bricks.

"No, no that's not true," I said.

"Of course you would defend him. My best friend is gone and the only woman I love is defending the killer." Spencer said in a deep low voice.

"But why Spencer? Why would he kill Josh? That makes no sense what so ever."

"I can't talk about this with you right now Page." I heard him say and he hung up the phone on me. I needed answers. I needed to do something. I was freaking out and the only person I could think to call was Vincent. The only problem was I didn't have a way to call him. I didn't have a way to contact him. I was going out of my mind. I picked up the phone and called Abby right away.

"I know Page, I just heard. What is going on?" She said.

"I don't know Abby, Richard told me not to worry about it. Spencer." I started to say, but she cut me off.

"Wait, you spoke to Spencer?" Abby said.

"Yes, I called him right away. Abby, he told me Richard killed Josh."

"What, you have to be kidding me. Why?" She said.

"I don't know he told me he couldn't talk about it and hung up with me. What am I suppose to do now? Richard won't talk to me and Spencer hung up on me. I don't have a way to get ahold of Vincent. Wait a minute, I can call Mickey. I know he will talk to me." I said. "Abby let me call you back." I hung up with her and called Mickey.

"Page, I can't talk right now." He said when he answered his phone.

"Mickey please, I'm going out of my mind here. If you don't talk to me I will fly there first thing in the morning." I said hoping he would talk.

"What do you want to know?"

"Is it true? Did Richard kill Josh?" I just flat out asked.

"No Page he didn't, but the evidence is against him. Someone is framing him and we think it's Spencer."

"Oh my god, do you really think he would do something like that?"

"We don't know Page, at the moment we are doing everything we can just to keep Richard home."

"I'm coming home,"

"No your not. You keep your ass there." Mickey said. "Page, you will only get in Richards and Vincent's way. Please don't come here."

"How the hell would I be in the way?" I spit out.

"Becuase neither one of them can think right when you're around. Please don't come here."

"I have to do something Mickey. None of this sounds right. Why would Richard even go after Josh? It doesn't make sense."

"Becuase Page, you don't know the story yet. I don't have time at the moment to go into details. If you promise to stay away. I'll keep in contact with you and make sure you know what's going on, but I have to go. They don't know I'm talking to you."

"Okay Mickey, but if I don't hear from you. I'm catching the first flight out."
