School was letting out soon for summer break. I really didn't have many plans. All of my friends had plans to go home and be with family. Only Aiden and I were really going to be around. I wanted to get a job so I had something to do with myself. I lost the job at the cafe when I disappeared. I thought it was funny when I was online looking at jobs and I came across an add for Spencer's company looking for secretaries. I almost thought about putting a resume in, but I decided against it. I really didn't want to get involved in that.
"You can work for me," Richard said.
"I don't want to do anything high profile. I just want something part-time so I have something to do with my summer." I said as I wiped my mouth with my napkin. Richard picked me up for lunch. Something him and I do every Saturday. He is a very busy man, but he always makes time for lunch with me.
"Page, I can find you something." He said.
"No Richard, you already do enough for me. Please let me do this on my own." I said. He just smiled and nodded at me. "Richard, um, how is, um. Nevermind." I said. He smiled again.
"Vincent is good, Page." He said. I just smiled at him. I took a deep breath and Richard paid for lunch and then he dropped me off at my place and give me a hug and headed home. I walked to my door to find Aiden sitting on my steps.
"What are you doing?" I said to him as I walked passed him and unlocked my door.
"I was waiting for you to come home. I'm taking my sister and two of her friends camping next weekend. I thought maybe you could join us. I don't really want to be trapped with three girls for the weekend alone." He said. I laughed.
"Sure I'll go it sounds like fun. I've never been camping before." I said. Aiden looked at me funny.
"Really you have never been camping. You really did live under a rock." He said. I just smiled at him.
"What do I need to bring?" I asked him.
"A bag of things you will need to be on the lake for the weekend." He said. I just smiled at his smart mouth.
"Okay," I said. I was actually excited about going. "Wait, are there bears? Are we going to be in a tent?" I asked. Aiden started to laugh.
"I promise you, Page, you will be okay." He said. I just looked at him for a moment.
"You better not get me eaten up by a bear Aiden, I mean it," I said. He just laughs even more. I smacked his arm and he fell back on the couch still laughing.
"See, you big bully. I think you can take care of yourself." He said.
"Whatever Aiden, I'll kick your ass if I die," I said.
"Oh great, night of the living dead Page." He said.
"You're not cute," I said.
"Baby, I'm sexy as hell." He said. I just giggled and rolled my eyes at him.
The weekend came pretty fast and I had a bag all packed up. I got dressed in my red bikini a pair of shorts and a lite shite unbutton. I waited for Aiden to show up. I could hear the girls voices before I even saw Aiden's SUV. This is going to be a fun weekend. I said to myself. All the girls were sitting in the back just laughing and having a great time. Aiden already looked beyond annoyed. I smiled and he looked over at me. "Shut up." He whispered at me and I just laugh as I got in the car.
"Hey girls," I said.
"Hi, Page," Grace yelled.
"Hi Grace, are you girls ready for some fun!" I shouted out. They all yelled out and I started to laugh as Aiden just shook his head.
"I'm letting the bears get you," Aiden said and I just giggled more. It took us a little over an hour to reach the lake. The drive felt longer with us girls laughing and taken control of the radio. Poor Aiden debated a couple of times on pulling the car over and kicking us out. Especially when a song would come on that we all knew and we started to sing at the top of our lungs. Finally, Aiden parked us at our campsite. It was perfect. We were right on the water. Aiden told the girls they had to set up their tent and help with everything else before the took off in the water.
"I don't know how to set up a tent," I said to Aiden.
"Well, I guess your sleeping outside with the bears then." He said and I just scrunched my nose at him. "Don't worry I'll put up our tent," Aiden said. I looked at him.
"Our tent?" I asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry Page. I only had two tents. I can just sleep in the car. It's no problem." He said.
"Don't be silly. I think we will be okay." I said.
"I did bring you your own sleeping bag." He said. I just smiled at him.
"Well, that's good. At least I can be in a burrito form for the bears." I said and Aiden started to laugh. After we got the campsite all set up. I removed my shirt and shorts. I put sunscreen on and walked out to the water. I tested it with my toes.
"Come on Page, the water feels great," Grace yelled out to me. I went ahead and just ran out into the water. It was cold but it felt good. I swam out to the girls and we all got into a water splashing fight. I was having a good time and I turned around and looked at Aiden just watching us from the bank.
"Are you just going to stand there or are you getting in?" I hollered out at him. He smiled and pulled his shirt off and ran into the water. The day went great and Aiden did some fishing and caught us dinner for the night. The night came and we all gathered around the fire pit. Aiden cooks us all dinner and we ate it around the fire while he told us ghost stories. Being out here with Aiden was stressfree and no drama. Being with someone like Aiden would definitely be a very normal life. No crime, no killings, no watching over my back. I would have a normal quiet life. I watched him telling the girls the scary stories with no worries on his face and it felt good to have a little normal in my life. The girls all started to yawn and they got up and went into their tent. Aiden and I stayed out by the fire pit. Aiden came over to me with a cup of hot tea. I took it from him.
"What are you thinking about?" Aiden said as he took a seat next to me.
"A lot," I said.
"Like?" He asked me.
"It's just so nice to come out here with you and enjoy something without the worry of someone getting hurt. Or watching my back. It's nice to have some normalcy in my life. I feel good out here. I feel good around you." I said to him.
"I'm glad you feel that way. You would always feel this way with me Page. Life would be easy for you." He said. I knew what he was getting at and I just wasn't ready to go down that road. Not because it was Aiden. I would feel that way towards anyone right now. I smiled at him.
"I know Aiden, I'm sorry to make you feel bad, but I'm just not ready for a relationship," I said. I really hated making anyone I cared about hurt. Sometimes I just wished they would all hate me. It would make things so much easier on me.
"Don't worry about it Page. The last thing I want to do is pressure you into something your not ready for. Besides, I want you to be with me because you want to be with me. Not because I want you.” He said to me. Aiden was such a good guy. I almost felt like he would be better off with someone else besides me and my fucked up world.
