Chapter 14

Tyler immediately let go of my arm, stepping aside. Nate came to us and stood beside me, his brow furrowed, as he obviously didn’t understand what it was seconds ago. I turned to him, looking him in the eyes pleadingly and said:

“Nate, could we go now? It’s getting really chill there.”

“Of course, Vera. I will talk to you later, Ty. Bye!” Nate said and took my hand in his, walking me to his car, which already was parked below the stairs. It was shiny blue SUV. I climbed in his car, trying to avert my gaze from Tyler, who still was standing at the stairs. I had a few seconds, while Nate walked to sit at the driver’s seat and looked at Tyler. He was looking at the car with an unreadable expression. I would give the fortune to know what was on his mind. He never was so pushy with me! Today he acted, as a total jerk, saying all these nasty words and grabbing me like that. What has happened to you, Tyler?

“Hey, would you tell me your address or I should guess?” Nate beckoned to me, smiling. He’s a real charmer, obviously knowing what to say to a woman to make her smile.

“Definitely.” I smiled to him in return, throwing aside frustration and confusion from my meeting with Tyler.

Through the ride Nate was mostly silent, we spoke a little about the event, about the auction and its profit, but I could tell that he was tense. He stopped the car around the corner of my apartment building, as I asked him to do. He unclasped his seat belt and turned to me. I followed him and now was sitting with hands on my lap, looking at him.

“Vera, may I ask you a question?” Nate looked serious.

“Yeah, of course.” I answered to him, trying to light up the mood with a smile.

“What has happened between you and my friend Tyler outside? I don’t know where it comes from, but you looked totally familiar with each other... Did you meet him before?”

“Nate, honestly, it’s... Okay, yes, it wasn’t the first time when Tyler and I saw each other. I know him since long ago and let’s just say it wasn’t a pleasant surprise for me to see him tonight.”

“Oh... But both of you acted like it was your first meeting back at the event...” Nate was visibly confused. And I don’t blame him for that.

“I am sorry about this, really. But I parted my ways with Douglas on not so good terms. And I actually would prefer not to see him not only tonight but ever again.” I didn’t want to tell Nate the truth about my relationships with Tyler at least for now.

“Well, I guess there is more than you’re telling me right now, but I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable. Let’s leave it like that. Besides I have more enjoyable things to do in my mind.” Nate answered and leaned to me, placing his hand on my cheek. I found myself leaning to his touch. I really wanted to taste his lips, his hands on my body. Looks like my feelings were mutual because he kissed me.

Almost immediately our kiss became really passionate, as I parted my lips and his tongue entered my mouth tangling with mine. I felt anticipation building inside me. His hands slid to my waist, then slowly moved up to my breasts, cupping and starting stroking them. Oh my God, I want this man, desperately. Why did I tell him to bring me home? I heard his groan as he broke our kiss.

“There is no chance that we could go to your apartment? Because you’re too perfect for the sex in the car. And the most important thing, I couldn’t do to you all that I want to do with you, Vera... I have my eyes on you for months and I don’t know why I waited for so long.” He said stroking my cheek with his palm.

“If only I lived alone... Or if my roommate wasn’t your employee...” I sighed, telling him this.

“Shit... I fucked up again...” His hands now were roaming over my hair, which was sending tingles over my whole body.

“Nate, no, it’s not your fault. I could have thought about it myself. I had had the whole understanding of what might happen between us when I got in your car.”

“May I kiss you again?”

“Why do you need to ask? I believe you could say that I wanted to kiss you and more...” He didn’t let me finish, as his mouth already covered mine, devouring me and sending me to the edge with light touches of his hands.

Only 40 minutes after I climbed out of the car and went home. It was almost two in the morning! I really hoped that Chloe will be asleep already. I didn’t feel like talking with her. I just wanted to go to bed, that’s all. When I entered our apartment, I heard the sound of the TV in the living room. There she was, sleeping on the couch. I took a blanket from our drawer and covered her with it. I started to tiptoe to my room when I heard Chloe’s voice.

“You really thought to go to sleep? Without telling me every little detail about tonight’s event? You promised me, Vera!”

“Oh my God, Chloe! You scared me! It’s really late and I thought I could tell you everything in the morning.” I turned to her, looking her in the eyes.

“I don’t care how late it is, roomie. I want to know about the event, about guests and especially...”

“Yeah, yeah, about Nate, obviously.” It felt strange to talk with her about him after our passionate moments in his car minutes ago. It’s good that it’s only light of TV-screen that lights the room because I’m sure that I looked flushed and my hair was really messy. “Okay, girl, what do you want to know?”

“How was the charity ball? How many money did we receive through the action? How many famous people were there? And of course, how was Nate? Was he alone or with some of his girlfriends?”

“Geez, Chloe... Don’t you think it’s too much? It’s almost 2 and I really tired.”

“No. You owe me, for my makeup and all of my efforts to help you to choose this dress.” She folded her arms before her chest.

“Looks like I don’t have a choice... Okay...” I started telling her about the event, mentioning all little details about attendees. Of course, I didn’t tell her that I saw Tyler nor about my rendezvous with Nate. I told her about Nate’s suit, how he fascinated guests with his speeches and that he was alone here. I told her more profoundly about the auction, with boring details and finally saw her yawning.

“Chloe, you’re tired, let’s go to sleep? I can tell you in the morning everything that you will ask me. Please?”

“Fine...” She yawned again and got up from the couch. Chloe hugged me, kissing me on the cheek and went to her room.

I also walked to my room, undressing quickly, slipping in my PJs and flopped on the bed. When my phone dinged with an incoming message. Who it could be at that hour?

“Someone promised to call me... Vera, how are you?” It was Tasha. Shit, she still wasn’t asleep, waiting for me.

“Love, I am sorry. I am at home and I’m super tired.”

“Are you really at home?” I groaned after reading it. I took a selfie in my bed and sent it to her.

“Well, goodnight! We will be waiting for you today.”

“I will be there... Around 2 o’clock?”

“Sure thing, babe.”

I smiled, reading her message and finally drifted to sleep. I didn’t want to think about my meeting with Tyler or about my kisses with Nate. I was too tired and fell asleep almost immediately.
