Chapter 2 - LILAC

Maya Angelou once said, ′ you may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it,′ but as I am being thrown out of the mansion and onto my butt I couldn’t help but feel utterly defeated.

The urge to cry was overwhelming. Tears pricked at my eyes and I fought them furiously. I cry when I am upset. I cry when I am sad. Right now, I am upset.

Dominic had the audacity to have someone throw me out. Although the servants had no choice but to obey, I felt embarrassed. I am an Alpha’s daughter. I have been cherished and loved. I have never been hated or treated lower than dirt.

I got up and fixed my dress and chestnut curls that ended up over my face. The gardeners must have seen the hot pink panties I had on. I wanted to die of my embarrassment. My face must be as red as a cherry.

My suitcase broke and my clothes ended up everywhere. I started picking them up while fighting back the tears that were threatening to expose themselves with each passing second. At this very moment, I hated agreeing to this deal. I should have just told Violet to leave me alone, but I have never been able to say no to her.

After I was done picking up my clothes and putting them back into my suitcase. I picked up my books that I brought with me. The last book that I picked up was from Winston S. Churchill. Another quote appeared in my mind, ’It is not enough that we do our best; sometimes we must do what is required,” I looked back up at the mansion.

Determination flooded through me. I am an Alpha’s daughter. I don’t deserve to be treated this way even from an overgrown bitter Alpha wolf. I don’t care if he is upset over his situation. I will not give up. There is no turning back, only moving forward.

If life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.

Taking another deep breath, I wiped off any evidence of crying. Squaring my shoulders, I grabbed the handle of my suitcase and made my way back to the entrance. The servants moved to block the door as directed by their Alpha.

“I am sorry, Luna. The Alpha command is absolute. We cannot ignore.” The servants apologize.

“The Alpha is your leader, but I am your Alpha’s mate. My position is equal to his. I am asking you to move aside and let me through.” I ordered.

“But-”

“Let me ask you this, do you want your Alpha to get better?” I questioned with a cocked eyebrow.

They nodded.

“What does he need to get better?” I prodded further.

“You.” They bowed their heads.

“Then you will move aside before I exact punishment on you for disobeying your superiors,” I demanded.

The servants looked uncomfortable. They didn’t know what to do. Their Alpha has commanded them, but their Luna has also thrown out her own command. I pinned them with a look that my mother uses on my sister and me. Immediately, they shifted over allowing me access inside the mansion.

When I entered, the rest of the servants didn’t stop me. I made my way up the stairs and back towards Dominic’s room. Just when I reached the door, I slightly lost my composure, yet I took a deep breath and opened it.

He was sitting on his bed with his head in his hands. He looked up when he heard the door open. His eyes looking in my direction but not at me.

He sniffed the air.

“You.” Were the words that came from him.

“Yes, me,” I replied before entering and slamming the door shut but it ended up slamming against my suitcase that was in the way. I cleared my throat awkwardly before moving my suitcase further inside and closing the door. He narrowed his eyes, unmoving from his spot but calculating my next move.

“What are you doing back?” He sneered. “I thought I tossed you out.”

I lifted my chin and took another deep breath. You can do this. Lemons into lemonade.

I made my way towards him. His eyes following me because he can smell my scent and feel my aura but even though he was following me, he still couldn’t see me. When I reached him, I jabbed him hard in the chest. He blinked in surprise. His face contorted into an almost comical expression. He must have never been jabbed before.

I saw his jaw ticked with irritation and the look of surprise slipped from his face.

“Apparently, you didn’t understand what I meant when I said get out. I should have figured out that my mate will be a simpleton.” He remarked with a scoff.

I wanted to slap him. I wanted to slap his face so hard that his head will be spinning on his shoulders. He was an ass with an ugly temper.

“I’m staying,” I replied, not sharing my thoughts about him.

His jaw ticked again.

“Leave!” He demanded. The veins on his neck bulged as he roared.

“No,” I cowered, and my voice went down several octaves.

He stood up at once and headed my way. I stumbled quickly back until my back hit against the bedroom wall. He pinned me in with both hands. I pressed my hands against his chest to stop him from coming any closer. The space between us was so small that if he took another step closer, our bodies will be touching.

“You know what I hate?” He whispered dangerously low.

He removed one hand from the wall and cupped my cheek while his thumb brushed it back and forth. The roughness in his hand felt nice against my skin. He dropped his attention to my lips.

“Disobedience.” He murmured before his hands moved to the back of my hair and he yanked to expose my neck. A whimper slinked past my lips and I closed my eyes tightly.

“Please,” I begged.

His lips brushed up against my neck, “What do I have to do to make you leave?”

I gulped in fear and in excitement. His lips were slowly stirring an inexplicable need inside of me. My heart thumped like a fast beating drum inside my chest.

“You can’t make me leave,” I mumbled.

His grip in my hair tightened and the soft graze of his lips swapped to a heated open mouth kiss. He sucked on the spot where my pulse thumped rapidly on my neck. The part where my mate is supposed to mark me.

My eyes remained tightly closed. My open palms on his chest curled into his shirt. Fumbling for my dear life. I bit the inside of my cheek to stop any traitorous sound from leaving my lips. I should be disgusted with what he is doing right now but oddly I am turned on.

“St-stop.” I pleaded, my voice breathless and raspy.

“What’s the matter? Changed your mind so quickly? I thought you said you will not leave. That you are my mate. That you will be here for me.” He repeated my words back at me.

Realization hit me. He was trying to scare me off by coming on to me stronger. I gulped again before pushing hard against his chest. He didn’t budge at all, but he did pull back. His eyes swirled with dark, heavy lust. I was not the only one affected.

I ducked from underneath him and tried for the door, but he was much faster. He had me up and pinned against the door again.

How can someone who is blind be this quick?

“I can still see shadows and light. Your scent isn’t that hard to detect too. Plus, this is my room. I know it like the back of my hand.” He replied and I realized I had asked my question out loud.

I pushed against his chest again, “Please get off me.”

“Why?” He replied. “Don’t you want to please me?”

“Please,” I pleaded harder.

“Now you are disgusted with me?” He asked, his jaw ticking as the words rolled off his tongue.

Far from it.

“Get off of me.” I pushed against his chest harder.

He released me by taking a step back. I shagged a little against the door in relief. My heart thumping erratically in my chest.

“Just because you used these demeaning behaviors on me, it doesn’t mean I will do as you say. I am here to help you.” I replied, my voice shaking as I speak.

I watched him work his jaw back and forth in irritation. His eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. Multiple emotions flew across his face. None too happy, of course. He turned his back to me. I took it as a sign that I won this small little battle of ours.

“I-I will go find myself a guest bedroom,” I uttered before grabbing my suitcase.

“Don’t bother.” He quipped.

I stopped and turned back to face him.

“You want to help me? You can start by sleeping in the place you should be sleeping.” He continued.

I glanced at the bed and then back at him. I can’t sleep next to him. I am not Violet. I am not his mate. I am only here to play my part.

“I-I can’t.” I stammered.

“If you can’t, then don’t bother trying to help.” He snapped angrily. He turned back around to glower at me. I stumbled back again at the force of his domineering aura that he was radiating fiercely.

This is not good. I can’t do this. This is wrong and our parents will kill us if they found out what we did. Panic surged through me and my eyes snapped back to the bed.

“I-I will s-sleep here on o-one condition.” I stammered quickly.

He cocked an eyebrow.

“If you p-promise not to-uh-do what you did earlier to me again.”

One corner of his lips lifted in a sarcastic way. His eyes gleaming with a devilish glint. He looked like the devil who won himself a good deal.

“Alright.” He replied before moving to settle back on his bed. “You can share my closet space. Just move my clothes to one side.”

He was looking at the wall while talking. His eyes were no longer on me. I exhaled the breath I was holding in and rolled my suitcase towards what I assume is the closet, avoiding the broken lamps and chair on the floor from Dominic’s earlier tantrum. I opened the double doors to see a grand walk-in closet. This closet space was big enough to fit a queen size bed inside.

I began working in moving his clothes to one side. After I completed clearing up one section, I worked on unpacking my clothes, shoes, and books.

Finally, after I finished tidying up the closet, I looked at my box of personal care items. I eyed the bathroom from the closet entrance. After a silent debate, I got up and walked to the bathroom to put my stuff inside. Placing my shampoo, body wash, toothbrush, and toothpaste next to his items.

Dominic was quiet the whole time. When I emerged from the bathroom, a knock came from the bedroom door.

Dominic’s attention flew towards the door, “Come in.”

The door opened and a smiling Beta Peyton appeared from behind it. He looked me over to see if I was harmed before his eyes landed on his Alpha who was still brooding silently on the bed.

“Well, I see that the Luna is safe.” He announced.
