Chapter 34 - Dominic

"One of our pack members found her in a dark alley within our city. They didn't know what to do with her and so they informed us. She was unconscious at that time. When she did wake up, she doesn't recall anything. We tried asking who she was and where she was from but she couldn't answer those questions. When I asked for her name, she told me it was Lilac. I asked how she knew that she said it is the first thing that came to her mind when I asked her." Luna Jaclyn recounted the events.

The whole time I am listening to her, I had my eyes closed. I'm afraid if I opened them they will see too much. I am feeling so many emotions right now.

I run a tracking industry and I know if I send out thousands of men out to seek her body, they will come back empty handed. I know this because my instincts are telling me it will be useless. All the facts are all there. The only thing missing is the fact that she doesn't remember a single thing.

So, does that mean she did die? Or didn't die?

I am not sure and if I continue to run myself down with these questions, I might just turn insane. One step at a time. For now, I am satisfied with the answers that I have received.

"Where is she right now?" I asked.

"She is in the kitchen," Luna Jaclyn asked.

"If I may have a moment alone with her?" It wasn't a question that they can deny but I asked anyway.

"Of course," Alpha Joshua said.

I stood up from my seat and walked out of their office. Following the same path that I came from, I exited the hallway and looked to my left to find her trying to cook in the kitchen. She's mumbling about something. A soft gasp left her lips a second later and she clutched her hand to her chest as she had just been burned.

Her back was facing me and she didn't hear me coming. I walked over to stand behind her. Putting my hands behind my back, I looked over her shoulder to see her severely burning the buttered pieces of bread on the pan. I smirked and recalled a memory of Lilac making me grilled cheese sandwich. It tasted awful. She even forgot to put the cheese on the bread.

She turned around suddenly and bumped into me.

"Oh!" she breathed, scared for a completely different reason. Her emerald eyes flying to mine.

"What are you making?" I asked.

"When-how long you have been standing behind me?" she questioned at the same time.

"I asked first," I raised an eyebrow before moving a hand behind her to shut off the stove. At this rate, she'll burn the entire building down.

"I had the sudden cravings for grilled cheese sandwiches," she mumbled, looking away sheepishly.

My eyes scoured her delicate features. She's beautiful and when I look at her, my heart hurts and soars at the same time. Unable to resist, I smoothed back her hair and hooked behind one ear. Unfamiliar sparks spread from that one touch. Her lips parted in awe at how beautiful this bond felt.

She may be my mate. She may not be. The only way to find out is to bring her home. Plus, my wolf wasn't having any of it. He needed her.

"You don't know how to cook?" I questioned.

"I don't remember," she shrugged.

"Do you remember anything at all?"

She looked up at me and furrowed her eyebrows before shaking her head. I nodded before dropping my hand back to my side.

"You're going home with me," I stated.

"What?" Her eyes flew to mine.

"You don't want to?" An eyebrow raised in question.

"Isn't that too soon? I don't know you," she replied.

"You're my mate. It is only the right thing to do. Once we get home, we will figure things out."

She didn't ask any further questions. I am relieved she didn't fight back. I wouldn't want to kidnap her back to San Francisco. One way or another, she had no choice. She's going home with me.

"Do you like it?" I asked.

She walked around the guest bedroom, not the one I am currently sleeping in but the one that I had cleaned out for her. She looked around the place and chewed her bottom lip. She seemed troubled about something.

She walked around the room once more before stopping in front of me.

"I don't know," she replied. "Where will you be sleeping?"

"I'll be in the room next door," I answered.

Again, a troubling look crossed her features. She nodded and turned away before I can read into it further. She sat her luggage on the queen size bed before unzipping her luggage. She threw open the cover and I see piles of books. My eyes ran across an American literature book that I have seen Lilac read multiple times. The book is still in our bedroom, sitting on the bookshelf.

"You like to read?" I asked.

Her gaze flew to me and a soft smile played on her lips. She nodded before picking up the book I have been eyeing.

"I love American literature. Some of my favorites are The Scarlet Letter, The Sun Also Rises, and the sound and the Fury."

I didn't realize how stiff I have become until she turned to look at me concerned.

"What? Was it something I said?"

I shook my head and forced a smile. My heart feels like it's being stabbed a million times. My emotions are haywire and I couldn't mask what I was feeling. She felt it too. She walked closer to me, unafraid. I looked down which only made her take a step closer to me.

Our eyes met again and my heartbeat like a drum in my chest.

"You look like someone I know," I told her.

She blinked.

"You like the things she likes. You're a horrible cook just like her."

Her lips parted and she shifted in her spot. Her lustrous chestnut hair fell over her shoulder and down her back, exposing her neck.

I stopped breathing completely.

I never paid attention to it before because I am consumed with all the other facts. On the curve of her neck were four keloid marks that look like a bite. Just like that, the blood rushed through my veins. My head pounded and my heart raced in my chest. I took a step towards her. Surprised, she stumbled back and fell onto the bed. I covered her body with mine to stop her from escaping.

Applying gentle force with my hand, I forced her to expose neck for me to look. My chest feels tight. She struggled against me.

"Get off me." She kicked and screamed.

She's mine. My love. My life. My mate.

"Lilac," I breathed in wonder.

She stopped struggling and still breathing hard. Unable to resist, I dipped my head and allowed my nose to trail her neckline. My lips brushed over the mark. She let out an involuntarily moan and arched her back.

Inhaling, her scent and it felt like home. I don't know how but I know she's my Lilac. That mark on her neck is mine. Pulling my lips back, my canines sharpened. She felt me poke her skin. Inhaling sharply in fear and anticipation. She made no move to push me away. Only waited.

I sunk my canines into her neck, remarking her.

Instantly, I'm pulled into a time warp. Everything around me is spinning. This is totally unexpected and it is a little freaky. I found myself standing in front of three people who had powerful auras extruding from them.

Two men and one woman. She sat in the middle of the table that they were all sitting at.

"Dominic, I was wondering when you will get here," she smirked with a twinkle in her silver eyes.

"Could you blame him? We have been gone for centuries, watching and observing." The man to her right pointed out. His eyes were completely black.

"Also, you wanted to wait twenty years-"

"Can you two shut up?" she snapped.

"I'm just saying, we could have made this easier and just give her to him," bright eyes that seem to glow stated.

"It's because she has a sadistic side. I am afraid, I am rubbing off on her." Black eyes winked at the woman between them.

She sighed and fought to calm down.

"Millenniums and I still can't believe why I am stuck with you two," she grumbled.

"Speak for yourself. I still think I am very young. Have you seen God? He has at least a hundred more years on me," Bright eyes replied.

"Oh my god! Can we get back to the task at hand?" She pointed in my direction.

"Oh yes, Dominic." Black eyes smiled but I did not get any warmth from him. He looked malicious.

"What is going on?" I questioned slowly.

"Yes, of course, let us explain from the beginning-"

"Can we skip to the part where I stole her body, brought her here, and Vita brought her back to life?" Black eyes interrupted.

"Oh my god, I'm going to kill you, Mortem!" She snarled in direction.

"You can't kill death if death is already dead. You are always so dramatic," Mortem cried like a child.

"I can't-not with you two." She waved her hand and both men were strapped to their seat with a cloth over their mouth. Their eyes widened when they saw what she did.

"That's better," she smiled before standing up and walking over to me.

She stood before me dressed in a light see-through dress that reached the floor. Her hair is a mixture of white and gray like the moon.

"I am Noctis, Goddess of the Night."

"Are you serious?" I asked.

She nodded. "Very serious. The Gods have a rule not to interfere with creation unless necessary."

"I'm dreaming, ain't I?"

She smirked. "You can call it that but all of this is real. Very real."

When I didn't look convinced. She sighed and walked away from me.

"I know it is hard for you to believe in us, Dominic. You went through a very hard life trial. You suffered the loss of your chosen mate. We felt your pain. We also heard your prayers."

I grounded my teeth together.

"What do you want?" I growled.

"Simply to explain." She said while turning back to face me.

"Why me? Why interfere now?"

"We do answer a prayer once in a while, Dominic. You were one of the lucky ones but you were also one who is very skeptical. As Mortem, God of Death has revealed, we did take your mate's body. Vita, God of Life, revived her upon my request."

She leveled her eyes with me. There was no fear or lies hidden beneath those silver eyes. They were open as the moon above.

"You feel like you don't deserve it," she stated but I answered it anyway.

"I don't know what to feel."

"Be happy that you are given this chance, Dominic. We rarely answer prayers but when we saw a skeptical praying, we couldn't resist but to answer," she smirked.

"You brought her back but she doesn't remember me," I pointed out.

"Of course, we got to make you work for it. You had to at least chase her if you wanted her. I'm glad you decided to mark her. When you return, you will find that she will remember everything."

"You're sick, you know," I growled.

She laughed, "You can't blame us. We get bored sometimes."

She raised her hand and snapped her fingers. I watched everything spin around me again like a time warp.

When I opened my eyes, she was still moaning underneath me. My wolf howled with joy. I felt our connection strengthened. Her soul intertwining through mine in a thick braid. Closing my eyes at the overwhelming sensation, I bit harder into her skin. She screamed at first but now she's moaning and clutching at my biceps.

"Dominic," she moaned.

My mate. My love. My life.
