Chapter Nine

“Can we talk?” I sat beside Matty on the couch.

It had been a long day of planning for the photoshoot and getting everything in order. But all the hard work is going to pay off, for sure. I know Jenny and Carlos are going to come in clutch with the outfits and our makeup. And I know Matty and I are going to slay this shoot and interview.

Matty wrapped his arm around my shoulders as I molded my body into the shape of his, “What’s up, babe?”

“I need something new.” I huffed from all the stress that had come over me from the past few days.

“Something new? Like what do you mean?” he looked at me confused.

“I think it’s time we do something new, and I’m sure we aren’t going to get pregnant right away and that is something new but I want something new now.”

“What do you have in mind?” he went back to watching tv. He doesn’t seem the least bit interested in what I’m talking about.

“I think we should move into a bigger place, and I made quite a bit starring in the movie.”

He paused the tv with the remote that was sitting on top of his relaxing thigh and he turned his body towards me so we were face to face.

“How much are you thinking? I haven’t put much in but I’m getting about four thousand a month from my checks.”

“And that’s great, that you’re bringing in some money but I’ve got you. I made a really good amount with the movie.”

“How much?” he smirked at me.

“Eleven.” I looked away from his face and at the ground, I guess I should’ve told him the amount I was raking in just from being part of the movie and acting. I haven’t even told him anymore about how much I’ll be bringing in depending on how much we make for the movie premier.

Plus, I thought about quitting like eight times.

“Eleven what? Thousand?”

He coughed and tossed himself forward trying to catch his breath, “Eleven million dollars?”

“Yeah, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I didn’t want to brag about it.” I spat out so he wasn’t too mad at me for not telling him.

“That’s fucking awesome, babe!” he jumped up from the couch with a huge smile on his face and happiness in his eyes.

“You aren’t mad at me for telling you sooner?” I stood up in front of him.

“Why would I be mad? It’s kind of understandable.”

“So does this mean you’re okay with the move?” I wrapped my hands around the back of his neck.

“Are you kidding? I’m so okay with it, and I’d never tell you what to do with your money.”

“Our money, Matteo. Our money.” I kissed him lightly, “Plus I already have a place in mind. The real-estate agent left the key for me if I wanted to go look at it again.”

“So when are you thinking we should take a look?”

“We could go right now?” I batted my long eyelashes at him in hopes he wouldn’t object.

“What about Kelia? We just got her in bed.”

“It’s kind of normal for us to take adventures late in the night. I’ll be right back, I’m going to wake her up.” I quickly pecked Matty on the lips and trotted away into the hallway into Kelia’s room. I know it’s not very mature of me to do this but Kelia loves the late night drives and the lights that fill the sky.

I slowly walked over to her bed and I rubbed her forehead lightly, “Kelia.”

She moaned from the tiredness and rubbed her eyes open.

“Want to go on an adventure with daddy and I?” I said with a grin on my face, I know she is going to jump up immediately. She loves late night adventures even if it’s just driving around.

“Where are we going?” she sat up straight and slid on her slippers that were at the foot of her bed while rubbing her eyes of the tiredness.

I knew it.

“When have I ever told you where we were going? Come on, grab a sweater. Ricky and Garrett are on their way.” I shot up and walked towards the door, “Hurry girl.”

“I’m coming! I’m coming!” she ran to her closet and I left the room.

I walked into the living room where I saw Matty sitting on the couch with Duma’s head on his lap while he was watching tv and petting her, “Hey, babe. She’s getting a sweater on now. I’m going to text the boys and let them know we are ready. I swear, you guys are going to love it. It’s absolutely stunning and the neighborhood is wonderful. Hailey and Justin live there with the whole group, and most of Kelia’s friends.”

He stood up from the couch while lightly chuckling, “I’m sure it’s going to be just as amazing as you say it is.”

“What’s so funny? I’m serious, Matty.” I grinned at him and met him behind the couch.

I loved him so much, even my spur of the moment moments he still finds a way to support what I want to do. Which could and could not come in handy, I just hope he has the audacity to call me out on something just like I’d do for him if he was doing something above and beyond without thinking clearly.

But I still love him so much, and can’t wait to become Mrs. Kiera Santiago and have more of his babies.

“Oh, I am too.” he wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his hand above my butt with a generous smile on his face.

“I know you guys are going to love it.”

I felt my phone vibrate and saw Ricky’s name on my screen.

“They’re here.” I locked my phone and stuffed it into my back pocket.

“Mom, do I have to put my shoes on?” Kelia walked into the living room.

“No, go ahead and just leave your slippers on. Come on, princess. Tío Ricky and Tío Garrett are outside waiting for us.” I held my hand out for her to join her hand with mine and we walked out the front door before locking it.

We made our way to the black van and met Ricky and Garrett inside. “Tío Ricky and Tío Garrett! I missed you guys!”

“You’re kidding! I bet you didn’t miss us as much as we missed you.” Ricky winked at Kelia with a smile.

“I bet that’s not true, but, okay.” she crossed her arms across her chest and stuck her tongue out at Ricky.

“Where are we going?” Garrett put the van in drive and pulled off into the not so busy but busy street.

“1234 Beverly View Drive, Aliso Viejo.”

“What is there, mom?”

“A big surprise.”

“Fine, but I’m going to need a nap tomorrow.” she dramatically looked out the tinted window.

“Fine.” I laughed at her with the boys.

I decided I should stay sober while I’m preparing for my Vogue interview and questions, and I don’t want my drinking to take an impact on Kelia’s and Matty’s life so I think it’s best. Plus, I don’t want to be the next star to take the next fall. I’ve seen it happen too many times with my friends, and I don’t want that for my own image or my families.

“So, how was the meeting with Vogue and Jack?”

“I have my seventy three questions this Friday and we are doing the shoot Saturday at the beach.” I took a deep breath, “Guys, I’m so freaking excited. How did I get this lucky?”

“Congratulations, Ki. I know this has been at the top of your bucket list since I’ve met you. Are you going to be on the cover of Vogue magazine with Matty?” Ricky asked.

“We are, yeah. It’s my first professional photoshoot.” Matty answered with a nervous smile on his face.

“Yeah, but he’s a natural and everyone loves him.” I playfully grabbed his chin and forced a bigger smile onto his face.

“Well, I hope so. Because I really have no idea what I’m doing.” he laughed with me.

We continued driving down the main road and before I realized it we were already in the driveway of the large and stunning modern farmhouse. I was so excited for everyone to see it, because I know they are going to love it just as much as I did. As soon as I pulled into the driveway the first time and saw the images online, I had fallen in love. And I didn’t want to give it a second thought. I just knew this was going to be the place I call home.

This is the kind of home I want my children to grow up in.

“Mom? What are we doing here?” Kelia looked at the beautifully tall white house with light brown wooden garage doors and window shields.

“You’ll see when we step inside.”

“You said the keys were left with you?” Matty helped Kelia step out of the van and then helped me while looking at the house.

“She left them in the mailbox for me. You like it so far?”

“I’ve never seen such a beautiful house. Well, besides Mom and Papi’s house, but this is way more stunning to look at.” he didn’t take his eyes off of the house while Kelia copied him.

“Wait until you see inside, come on guys.” I lead the boys and Kelia to the front door and I grabbed the key from the mailbox by the large tinted glass front door.

I twisted the key and turned the door knob before entering the beautiful professionally designed house with five bedrooms, six full and three half bathroom features, a formal yet flowing open floor plan perfect for large gatherings or cozy nights in. We could have family come visit and stay with us, and we could have Kelia’s parties here as I’m sure she is going to want to as she gets older.

The chef’s kitchen features an oversized island, butler’s pantry. The kitchen being my favorite part. I loved cooking for the family and making special dishes for everyone so I had to choose a place with the perfect kitchen in it. I always dreamed of a glittery white and black base as the kitchen theme and I always wanted a long island where I could sit and chat with my friends. The metallic fridge was inside of the wall and the doors were touch screen and pulled out of the wall, which was so astonishing to me.

Some of the special features on the main floor that stood out to me most were the study room, the wine room, the first floor guest suite, and the formal living and dining rooms. Upstairs you’d see a large loft, bedrooms each with walk in closets and in room bathrooms, a media room, and an oversized master bedroom that I will call mine sooner or later.

The master bedroom features a large balcony, dual closets and a spa-like master bathroom. If this isn’t enough for them to fall in love with the house, I was going to head back downstairs to open the doors to the family room to take advantage of the gorgeous canyon views and the cool Beverly Hills summer nights with an instant indoor outdoor living area.

There were white laying chairs and umbrellas lining the white gate behind them and we had a large twelve foot deep pool with a color changing jacuzzi. The backyard was lined with stone tiles and well cared for lemon trees. And it was absolutely amazing, in my eyes. There is no way they wouldn’t be in love with the place by now.

“Well, what do you guys think?” I stopped walking in the backyard and finished showing them the tour of the entire house.

“You want our honest opinions?” Matty glanced at Ricky and Garrett, then looked at Kelia.

“Huddle up, ya’ll.” Kelia brought her arms above her head and they huddled up around her quickly while whispering along each other. I hate that the boys love her more than me in some times. I don’t actually hate it, I just hate that they’re so secretive and I’m not included in the squad.

“I’m right here, you know that right?” I laughed at them.

The boys and Kelia broke their circle and turned towards me, “We’ve come to a conclusion.”

“Yes?” I glanced at Matty who was speaking for the group.

“We think it’s absolutely beautiful, but Kelia wants to know why we are here.”

“Oh, thank god you guys like it because I already put the payment down. We move in Thursday.” I said with relief.

“This is our home?” Kelia shouted in excitement and disbelief.

“This is our home, princess.” I walked over to her and grabbed her to rest her on my hip. She’s getting too big to keep doing this. “And I’ll tell you what, you can even pick your own room.”

“My friends are going to be so jealous of my new house, I can’t wait to show it off!” she screeched.

“Are you okay with that, babe?” I turned to Matty to see him watching Kelia and I.

“Why wouldn’t I be okay? It’s your dream home and I want you to get everything you want in life.” he whispered to me in my ear. “I say yes.”

“I’ll send the real estate agent my final confirmation.” I kissed Matty on the lips while we both were smiling.

“And we will be moving by Thursday so Vogue will see our new home, this is going to be perfect.” I sent the confirmation while we were talking as a group.

“Dude, imagine the parties we can have here.” I heard Matty say to Garrett and Ricky while dapping them up. “Boys night is about to get so much better.”

“Not while Kelia is home, dear.” I smirked at him and rubbed her bangs out of her face as she laid her head on my shoulder.

“Of course, babe.” he sarcastically smiled at me, “But they are going to be killer.”

“You want to soak your feet in the pool for a bit or do you want to go back home?” I started swaying my body side to side.

“We can soak our feet for a bit if you want, but I’m kind of tired, mom.” she said into my neck.

“It’s okay, princess. We can do that whenever we want.” I turned to the boys and lowered my voice, “Come on and lets lock up.”

Everyone nodded at me and I carried Kelia into the house and locked the backdoor behind me as Matty took Kelia from my hip. He is much better at carrying her around for long periods of time than I am. And I’d never miss the picture perfect view of her sleeping on his shoulder.

We locked up the house and managed to get back before eleven and Kelia was knocked out the moment her head hit Matty’s shoulder. So she didn’t lose too much sleep and we agreed on a short nap after school before doing homework. I’m so incredibly happy that everyone loved the house because I was already planning on flying both families in this weekend for a family party and I already put down half of the six million dollars down on the house to hold it.

The house came furnished already. Including beautiful sculptures and paintings filling the tall empty walls and surfaces. My favorite sculpture throughout the entire house was the large welded orchid pot. It was spray painted gold and I believe the pot was made of actual clay and the pot was filled with what looked to be gold spray painted coins.

Everything about this home screams Kiera Johnson and I needed to be able to call it mine. It’s too beautiful to pass up the opportunity or it would’ve gone to someone who is less deserving. This is the beginning of Matty’s and our families new lives together.

A new chapter in my life.
