Chapter 6

The next morning John woke feeling refreshed and ready to go. As he rolled over he remembered, he was not alone, and saw Jessie. She was now facing him but still asleep. He gazed at her a while. He thought he was fairly pleased so far with her actions. Dinner was very good, the house looked nice, and she had taken an interest in the animals. He had to admit to himself that he found her naïve behavior a bit amusing. John decided he would let Jessie sleep a bit today, after all, she couldn’t have gotten much sleep the night before. And he knew it might take her some time to get used to her new schedule here.

John dressed and went downstairs. He wasn’t making breakfast today, there was too much for him to do. He grabbed a biscuit leftover from dinner and slopped some jelly on it. He ate it on his way out. He would ride out to check on the fields and later he’d start Jessie’s bed frame.

Jessie finally awoke around 10:00 a.m., as she opened her eyes she quickly noticed John was now gone. She got up and dressed, made the bed that they had shared, and headed downstairs. John was not inside. Jessie was pleased with the way things worked out last night, she hardly knew John was next to her, and she had slept well, much better than the small sofa. She heard the rumbling of a wagon coming from outside. As she went to the door and opened it, instead of seeing John, as she had expected to, she saw an older woman. The woman stopped and looked at Jessie curiously.

“Hello I was going to turn around and leave because I didn’t see John’s wagon. Is he here?”

“No, he must have gone off somewhere.”

“I am John’s mother, and you are?"

Jessie stood stunned for a moment. John’s mother! Apparently she did not know about Jessie’s presence yet. How should she explain things? What would his mother think of her living here with her son? She took a deep breath.

“My name is Jessie, would you like to come in?”

The woman raised her eyebrows and hesitated for a moment.

“Will John be back soon?”

“I’m not really sure.”

“Why don’t you just give him a message for me? Tell him I stopped by to see how his trip went and that his father and I expect to see him for church on Sunday.”

“O.K. I will.”

Then Jessie closed the door quickly. She hoped she didn’t seem rude, but she was afraid John’s mother may start to ask more questions. She wanted John to be the one to explain things to his mother, not her.

Jessie walked to the kitchen to fix herself a cup of tea, and a biscuit. Afterwards, she tried to busy herself straightening up. Finally, she heard more noise coming from outside. It sounded like a saw. She went up to the workshop to speak to John.

She knocked on the huge door, but John did not reply. She pulled it open and heard the noises of the saw even louder now. She could see John in the far corner working with one of the saws. As she walked towards him she noticed all of the machines and tractors.

“John!” she shouted.

He quickly turned around, he was covered in sawdust.

“Jessie! Are you finally awake!” he teased. “What do you think of your bed frame so far?”

“Oh John, it’s beautiful! It’s just like yours. You mean you made your frame and the tables, those beautiful tables and shelves in the living room?”

“Yes, I take it you like them.”

“It’s amazing, how you can take a plain piece of wood like this and turn it into something so beautiful.”

“Hey Jessie, I was just about to head out to check on the fields, would you like to ride with me?”

“Let’s go then!”

He smiled and walked towards the door. Jessie followed a bit confused, where was he going? He went right past the wagon and grabbed the horses. Horses! Jessie’s heard pounded. She could not ride a horse!

“Can you ride Jessie?”

“No!” she quickly confessed.

“Well, then we’ll just take one for today.” He hopped on top of the horse and extended his hand to Jessie.

“Oh, no John . . . I can’t really.”

“What do you mean you can’t? All you have to do is sit and hold on!” he laughed.

Before Jessie could argue any further, John had grabbed her hand, “Pull up Jessie, let’s go.”

Jessie knew John’s tone of voice already, he was not very patient. Somehow she managed to climb up. She held his waist awkwardly.

John whistled and the horse tore off. Jessie grabbed John’s body so tightly, he probably could not breathe, but she didn’t care. She was petrified.

They rode for a long while, past many fields. John explained what each crop was and how long before it would be ready, but Jessie hardly heard a word he was saying, she was too busy hanging on to him and trying to keep herself composed.

Finally, after what seemed forever to her, they returned home. John helped her off of the horse. Her legs were weak; she nearly collapsed when she stood on the ground. John noticed and grabbed her arm tightly.

“Are you O.K.?”

“I’m fine,” she lied.

“I’m sorry Jessie, that was probably a long ride for a first timer. I wasn’t thinking.”

“I think I’ll go in and rest for a while.”

“O.K. I’m going to be in the workshop a while longer.”

Jessie walked back to the house. She should have insisted she didn’t go with John on a horse ride.

She sat on the sofa a minute and decided a hot bath was what she needed. The stairs seemed impossible to get up, she had no idea she’d be so sore. Her legs and thighs throbbed. She began to unbutton her blouse before she even reached the bathroom. She turned the water on, reached for the door, and threw the rest of her clothes on the floor.

Jessie lie in the hot water, massaging her legs and thighs. She was beginning to feel a bit better now as she rubbed her legs she found her hands wondering up and down her entire naked body. She had nice round breasts and she fondled them. She closed her eyes, relaxed, and began to pleasure herself.

John walked up the stairs quietly, he did not want to wake Jessie. He entered his room, changed, and walked towards the bathroom. As he went to enter, he could see through the cracked door. It was Jessie and . . . she was naked . . . and enjoying herself completely.

John could not pull himself away. He saw her round breasts and watched as she fondled them. He noticed every curve in her body. He could feel himself becoming hard and aroused.

Jessie breathed hard and moaned quietly until her whole body shook with pleasure. Then she laid there in complete satisfaction.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes and jumped up, “John’s mother!” She thought. She had forgotten to tell him that she stopped by earlier. She stood up grabbed her towel and dried off.

John backed out of sight so quickly, his heart pounded. Had Jessie seen him watching? He felt awful for invading her privacy, and even worse when he thought she might know he had done so!

Jessie went to her room and dressed again. As she went downstairs she heard John in the kitchen.

“Oh! John, I was just coming to get you.”

“You were?”

“Yes, I forgot to tell you, your mother came by earlier and she said she and your father expected to see you on Sunday for church.”

“O.K.” he said awkwardly.

Jessie hesitated, she expected him to question her on what exactly she said to his mother. But he said nothing else. He seemed very distracted.

“John, are you upset?”

“No, Jessie I’m not upset. I have to go . . . I’ll be outside.”

John knew it was going to be hard explaining to his parents who Jessie was, and why she was here, but he was not ready to concentrate on that right now. He needed to be alone, away from Jessie. He busied himself in the workshop but was very distracted by the image of Jessie in the bathtub. Until now, he had not really thought of her in a sexual way. She was more like a companion to him. But he could no longer deny she was also very much a woman, a woman with desires, and very beautiful as well.

Jessie busied herself with dinner. She was still concerned about John’s mother coming by, and about John’s reaction to it.

John entered the house and saw that Jessie had fixed dinner. He half smiled and sat down. He like that she assumed responsibility for the cooking, but wished he didn’t have to sit across from her at the table tonight. He didn’t say very much to her during dinner and when he was finished eating he went out to the workshop again.

Jessie could definitely tell that something was bothering John, she assumed it had to do with his mother coming by, but decided not to press him with questions tonight. She cleaned up the table, washed the dishes, and decided to turn in early.

John came into the house around 9:00 p.m. He was glad when he realized Jessie had already gone to bed for the night. He felt uncomfortable being around her right now. He had so many new feelings he needed to sort through about her. He showered and went to the bedroom.

As he lay next to Jessie, his mind raced. He wondered if he should approach her. He could right now just reach over and pull her close to him. Perhaps she wanted to be with him romantically? No, he didn’t think so, she hadn’t made any suggestions that she had wanted to, yet she was young and naïve, or so he thought. He wondered if Jessie had ever been with a man before. But what if he really did approach her? Whether she said yes or no, it would change their relationship for good. He was not ready for any more complications. No, he would not approach her. He would simply forget what he had seen and go back to the way things had been so far. He could resist her.
