Chapter 10 (unedited)
“If you woke up and you were a hamster, what would be the first thing you would do?” Will asks out of the blue, causing me to stop writing.
I lifted my gaze and threw him a weird look as he absentmindedly twirled a pen in his hand. “If I woke up... As a hamster...” I reply slowly, believing my ears to be mistaken.
“Yes, a hamster. What would you do?” He questions, setting the pen down and looking at me with raises eyebrows.
I blink at him a few times, still not believing that he was asking such a ridiculous question. “Why would I wake up as a hamster?” I question incredulously.
He shrugs. “I don’t know. Just answer the question.”
I set my pencil down and lean my in my chair, running a hand through my hair thoughtfully. “Well... I guess I would learn how to skateboard and become the world’s first skateboarding hamster.”
He raises an eyebrow at me as his eyes study me. “A skateboarding hamster? Why?”
I shrug my shoulders and leave my chair, walking over to the cabinet with all the coffee mugs. “I don’t know... Maybe because it’s the one thing I love and am good at as a human and I would want to keep that.”
“Hmm.” He hums thoughtfully as I reach for a second mug.
“You want some coffee?” I ask, leaving my hand suspended mid-air as I wait for his answer.
“Yea, sure.” He replies. I nod my head and grab the second mug before walking over to the Kurig coffee maker and setting in the first coffee. I press the button and turn around to see will watching me thoughtfully.
“Um...” I say, looking around me to see if he was looking at something else. He tilts his head to the side as a smile plays at his lips.
“Two questions. One: Why are you looking at me? Two: wet cream or dry?” I question him, turning back around to make the coffee after I exchange the mug in the machine for mine.
“Wet cream, please.” He replies, his breath tickling my ear.
My eyes widen as I spun around only to stand a foot away from a smirking Will. “I... Ah... Um... Wet cream it is...” I awkwardly say, scooting to the fridge and pulling out the French Vanilla coffee mate.
Will bursts out laughing as I--in a rather flustered way--hand him the cup mumbling ‘here ya go’ under my breath. He grins ear to ear at me, showing a dimple on each of his cheeks.
Oh fudge monkeys... A girl’s gotta love dimples...
I scold my inner voice for ever thinking about Will like that before going and making my own coffee.
“You’re so innocent.” Will says humorously, and I walk back to the table with my coffee in hand, giving him a strange look.
“Me? Innocent? Puh-lease. I am far from innocent.” I argue with a non-chalant wave of my hand.
“Oh really?” He challenges, raising an eyebrow. “Say, sex.” He orders me.
I scoff. “Really? That’s the best you got? Anybody can say that word.”
“What word?” He questions me mischievously.
“The word you told me to say.” I reply cooly.
“Say it.” He says with a grin.
“I don’t need to.”
“Ah, so you are innocent.” He concludes, siting back in his chair in victory.
“Am not!” I argue stubbornly.
“Then say the word!” He challenges.
I open my mouth to say it, but all that comes is this lovely bunch of sounds. “Se... Seeya... Sehehe... Sssseeh....”
He laughs and looks at me with a cheeky smile. “You are so innocent.”
“Am not.” I argue with a huff.
“AM FUDGING NOT!”
His sentence is interrupted by the sound of the front door opening and slamming shut.
“Tessa! Where are you you fat, lazy cow!?” I hear my oh-so-wonderful stepsister Jenna scream from the front hallway.
I sigh and run and hand through my hair exasperatedly.
Just fudging peachy.
“In the kitchen!” I yell back, closing my Geometry book and stuffing back into my backpack. “You might want to hide.” I warn Will.
He looks at my with wide eyes. “Why should I--” He is interrupted by a loud shriek coming from the entrance to the kitchen.
“OH MY GOD! WILL THATCHER IS IN MY KITCHEN! THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!” Her shrill voice rings through the small room. I wince as Will’s body tenses in fear. He stands up and turns around just in time to catch the crazed girl lunging at him and hold her at arms length.
“WILL THATCHER! YOU ARE HERE! I KNEW YOU LOVED ME, I JUST KNEW IT!” She shouts, causing me to stifle a laugh as I watch a very frightened Will scramble away from her and run around the kitchen.
“Evasive maneuvers!” I yell at him with a laugh, causing him to send me a glare before barely dodging a grab from my stepsister.
“What the heck is going on in--HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!” Julia exclaims, staring at the scene in front of her with wide eyes.
She looks at me for an explanation and I just shrug in response. Julia looks back at the scene, only to snort at what Jenna screams next.
“OH I KNEW WE WERE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER! I JUST KNEW! DON’T RUN FROM YOUR FEELINGS, WILL! I AM HERE! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE!” She cries out, making another grab for him.
“Are you going to stop this or shall I?” Julia questions me, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
I giggle as Jenna successfully tackles Will, causing him to cry out in fear. “HELP! DEAR GOD SOMEONE HELP! I’M BEING HARRASSED!” I crack up laughing as an answer to Julia’s question.
This is too funny to watch.
“Tessa! Tessa please! I’m begging you! Save me!” He screams, maneuvering his head to avoid her kisses.
I chuckles and smirk at him. “Nah. I think I’m enjoying the show too much to do that.” I say to him.
He glares at me before attempting to reason with the psycho on his chest. “Listen, Jenny, I don’t think about you in that wa--”
“OH MY GOD YOU CALLED ME JENNY! WILL THATCHER GAVE ME A NICKNAME! WE ARE IN LOVE!” Jenna shrieks before increasing her attack of kisses on his face.
Will cries out for help as I crack up watching him squirm.
Julia sighs before bending over her sister sprawled across Will’s chest while she tries to kiss him. In one swift movement, she has her sister over we shoulder and carries a screaming Jenna out of the kitchen.
In a flash, Will is up and stuffing all of his stuff into his backpack. I laugh as he hurriedly throws it over his shoulder.
“Great study session, Princess! But considering that my stalker is now here, I take it as my signal to leave, fair enough?” He rushes out.
I giggle and nod my head. “I got it. You should leave now, she’ll be running back in three... Two... One...”
“DON’T LEAVE WILL! WE STILL NEED TO MAKE LOVE!” Jenna’s shrill voice yells through the house.
Will pales before spinning on his heel and making a bee-line for the door with me on his tail. He rushes out the door and I stand halfway down the driveway as he starts the engine of his truck.
“Bye, Princess! See you at school!” He yells from his car.
I laugh and wave at him. “Bye, Will! Better run now!” I yell just as Jenna storms out of the house.
“WAIT WILL! DON’T DENY YOUR FEELINGS! I LOVE YOU! WE WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER!” Jenna cries out, rushing to his truck.
And just like that, Will is speeding away down the street as if he were in a car chase.
Jenna huffs before turning and glaring at me. “YOU!” She shouts, pointing a manicured finger at me. “YOU MADE HIM LEAVE! YOU KEPT OUR LOVE APART!”
I raise my hands in defense and surrender as I take a few steps back. “Hey, I didn’t scare him off. That was all you.”
She gasps before marching up and getting in my face. “AND JUST WHAT ARE YOU IMPLYING!?” She demands of me.
I shrug and walk back into the house. “Think what you want.” I say over my shoulder, walking through the door frame.
“MOTHER WILL BE HEARING ABOUT THIS!” She screams at me.
I sigh and trudge up the stairs. “Okay, Jenna, whatever you say.”
And with that, I enter my bedroom and close the door behind me.
