Chapter 20: Explanations

“Did you really think that I was going to hurt you?” Ace asked with shock and I shook while taking a few steps backwards. He ran his hand in his hair and walked slowly towards me. “Angel, I would never hurt you” he said in disbelief. My breathing was quickening and I could feel my eyes blurring. I knew that I was having a panic attack. “Angel” Ace called with concerned. I didn’t want to feel weak in front of him, so I ran. I ran away. I knew that he was following me as I could hear his steps. I stopped and turned to look at him.

“Please, let me go” I pleaded and he looked at me helplessly. With that, I started running away. Thank god I’m used to running as my house was a bit far. As I ran I took deep breaths as I knew that it would calm me down. My phone vibrated in my pocket making me stop. I took the phone and sighed when I saw the caller. “What do you want?” I questioned harshly and I could hear him sigh.

“Angel, that’s the best thing that I did” Josh explained. “I could see that the guy was taking an important place in your life and I thought it would be best if he knew your weaknesses” he explained and I sighed as I knew that he was right.

“I don’t know what to do” I groaned and started walking as I reached the street on which I live.

“Try to stop” he sighed and I closed my eyes.

“I tried! But whenever I’m confronted to some emotional issues, it’s the only thing that can really calm me” I explained and he stayed silent for a few seconds.

“You know what? I’m coming over” he informed and I did smile. “We need to talk over it” he said and I nodded then I slapped myself when I realized that I nodded on the phone. “You just nodded on the phone, right?” he questioned.

“Yeah, I did” I answered and he chuckled. “I’m going to send you my address and wait for you” I informed him before ending the call. I walked to my house and I stopped when I saw Ace sitting on my porch. He had his hands on his face. Damn, I’ll have to face him. I walked slowly to my porch and once he heard my steps, he rose his head. What he did next was really surprising. He stood up and engulfed me in a tight hug.

“Next time, don’t fucking run away” he ordered and tightened his arms around me.

“Ace, I’m fine” I said with a little smile. He pulled away and wore a frown on his face which made him look so adorable.

“I’m sorry but I really need some fucking explanation” he sighed. I walked to my door and unlocked it then motioned him to walk in. Once he did, I followed behind, locking the door.

“Josh is coming in a few minutes” I informed and made my way to the kitchen. He groaned and followed me.

“Who is he?” he asked and sat on the counter looking at me.

“My gym buddy and my best friend” I explained and opened the refrigerator to take out a bottle of water.

“Do you- uh- Do you happen to like him?” he asked. I nearly spat out my water.

“He’s like my brother” I exclaimed. He smiled then pulled my bottle from my hand. He took a gulp and gave me back the bottle. I was going to slap him on his arm when the knocking on the door stopped me. “He’s here” I mumbled to myself and walked to the door. Josh stood there wearing his usual leather jacket. “Come in” I said. He whistled when he walked in.

“Damn, I would kill to live here” he whispered. I pushed him to the kitchen. Ace didn’t even acknowledged his presence. “So I’m here because we really need to talk about all this” he said and sat on the chair.

“Okay” I mumbled while sitting on the chair so that I was facing both guys.

“I think you need to start from the beginning” Ace said with a sigh and Josh nodded even though he knew everything.

“He needs to know” Josh said. I took a deep breath.

“My life is fucked up” I started. “That’s why I needed a new start, that’s why I decided to live alone. I started to cut myself when Aunt Rosy started to morally harass me” I said, trying to keep my tears from rolling down my cheeks. “Each fucking time she’d try to make me feel like shit and each fucking time she’d succeed” I said with hatred.

“Angel, if she hurt you that much, you shouldn’t meet her” Josh said. I shook my head.

“I do it for my Granny’s sake” I told him. “she want her family to be reunited” I said and Josh nodded while Ace sat frozen. Josh’s mobile phone started buzzing in his pocket making me roll my eyes. “One of your booty calls Joshy boy?” I teased and he pulled out his phone. He shook his head with wide eyes.

“In fact, it’s my mother” he said with confusion. His mother never calls him unless it’s something important. “Hello?” he answered and after thirty seconds, he ended the call. “I gotta go” he sighed and I nodded. “But I gotta do something first” he said, making me look at him in confusion. He stood up with a smirk. “Where’s your room?” he asked and I glared.

“What are you going to do in her room?” Ace questioned and jumped off the counter.

“Answer the question” Josh said and I motioned in upstairs. He ran up the stairs. I followed behind him. He walked in my room as if he owned the place. He quickly kneed right next to my bed and pulled out the box that contained the razor blade. “I’m taking that with me” he said and I nodded. Ace looked at us in confusion.

“How did you know it was under my bed?” I asked him and he gave me a smile before walking downstairs again.

“Our monsters always hide under our bed, right?” he asked and kissed my forehead. I hugged him. I knew that he was doing this for me.

“Thank you for being here for me” I said and he tightened his grip on me.

“That’s my duty as a brother” he said and I hugged him tighter.

“I love you” I said as he shuffled my hair.

“Love you too Angel” He said before walking away, leaving Ace and I alone.

“He really cares about you” I heard Ace said from behind me. I nodded and turned to look at him. I walked to the living room and he followed me. We sat on the couch, facing each other.

“What do you want to know?” I asked him and he frowned again.

“Everything” he said with determination. I chuckled and shook my head.

“Be more precise” I suggested and he chuckled.

“Why did you flinch when I rose my hand?” he asked seriously.

“I thought you were going to hit me” I replied sincerely and he sighed.

“Why?”

“Some past memories came” I said.

“Rosy hit you?” he questioned angrily and I shook my head.

“My ex” I replied and he clenched his jaw.

“Tell me you’re kidding” he huffed and pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. “How far did he go?” he asked.

“Cut me then rub salt, push me off the stairs, slaps, punch, kicks” I said and he looked at me in disbelief.

“Do I know him?” he asked and I shook my head.

“He’s in jail” I said and he stared at me. “One day he stabbed me” I said and rose my shirt so that he could see the mark which was fading away. “My life is a big mess” I groaned and he stayed silent.

“Angel” he said seriously. “Whenever you need someone, just know that I’m here, my family is here. The guys are here” he said. “Even though sometimes they are assholes, they will help” he said playfully, making me grin.

“An asshole calling his friends assholes” I joked. “Classy” I teased and he chuckled. He slide closer to me and wrapped his arms around me in a hug. I took a deep breath and hugged him back. “I want the Bad boy back” I said teasingly. Ace chuckled. “Because I’m starting to think that Ace Carter is turning soft” I said in a taunting way, trying to ease the atmosphere.

“Ace Carter is anything but soft” he scoffed and I scoffed back.

“Prove it” I taunted challengingly and he smirked. In a swift movement, he pulled me on his lap. “What the hell are you doing?” I questioned when I felt his head dip in the crook of my neck.

“Proving to you that I’m still bad ass” he said and gently bit on my skin. I shivered but then shook my head when I realized what he was doing.

“Prove it another way, Ace!” I exclaimed and got off his lap. “That’s just proving that you’re a horny baby” I teased, making his jaw dropped open.

“Did you just call me a baby?” he questioned while glaring at me but I could see amusement in his eyes.

“Yes” I answered and slowly, he smirked at me. I backed away from him as he was wearing an evil type of smirk. “What are you doing?” I asked as he slide closer to me.

“Are you ticklish?” he asked while grinning.

“No” I lied. He rose his eyebrows, making him look really cute. He poked my side, causing me to wiggle on my seat.

“Lying is a sin!” he exclaimed, making me laugh. He then attacked me with his fingers. He tickled my side making me laugh out loud. I was having problems to breathe. He would stop to let me breathe and once I was done, he continued. He was laughing and damn, did he look good when he did. Such a melodious sound. Snap out of it Angel! You can’t fall for him. “Say Ace Carter is the hottest guy I know!” he said and I shook my head. “Come on” he said with a chuckle. “Or I’ll carry on tickling you” he said and stopped to let me take a deep breath.

“Lying is a sin” I repeated his words and burst out laughing when he tickled me again.

“Only those little words would save you” he said and I laughed.

“Ace Carter is the hottest guy I know!” I yelled and soon his fingers stopped moving on my sides and he laughed. He rested his forehead against mine and closed his eyes. We were both breathing heavily from all that laughter. I opened my eyes and studied his beautiful face. He then opened his eyes, letting me see his beautiful gray eyes.

“Thank you for opening up to me” he whispered and I smiled.

“I didn’t really had the choice” I joked and he sighed before pulling away and sitting back on the couch.

“Let’s do something” he suddenly said. “Movie night” he suggested and I nodded.

“What about I call our friends?” I said and he pouted.

“I thought there was going to be only us two, cuddling and kissing” he said, making me chuckle.

“Only in your dreams” I told him. He simply laughed.

“No, In my dreams, you get more dirty” he said, wiggling his eyebrows. I took a cushion and threw it on his face. He laughed while I picked up my phone and started calling our friends.
