Darrius takes me to a room full of computers. He has a smug smile on his face the whole way and I catch him one too many times licking his lips.
“What is this room for?” I ask, trying to distract his thoughts from the taste of my blood.
“It’s a computer-lab for research, obviously,” he says, “We keep some important documents on the databases here. Information no one else knows about vampires. The prophecy is an ancient document, it’s been translated. I’ll show you it,” he guides me to a computer. The computer-lab is empty except for us two and I wish it wasn’t. Now Darrius’ presence was intensified.
I sit down on the chair he directs me to and he leans down next to me, an arm over the back of my chair, his hand playing with my hair. He liked to do that and I was too nervous about the prophecy to tell him to stop. He leans over with his other hand and logs in. He goes through a couple of documents until he finds one labelled ‘The_creation_of_the_supernatural_world’. A scanned brown, ripped page appears. He scrolls down below to the translation.
“Have a read, sweetie,” he says, petting my hair, “Then see if you don’t believe me.” I try to ignore his arrogant tone and huff out a breath, focusing on the screen. There were multiple translations but he has scrolled down to the most extensive, easy-to-read one.
Supernatural beings will roam the earth and become one with all other creatures. They will merge in with society. However, as soon as they begin to overtake the human population through strength and dominance, there will be a chance to balance back out the power. With the death of hundreds of innocents for the supernatural world to be made, in return there will be an opportunity where all supernatural beings will be under threat of extinction. A human will appear with the genetic make-up to defy all things supernatural, with the power to exterminate supernatural beings. This human has only one weakness, they will be bonded completely to one supernatural being. A supernatural being of immense power. Their souls will be intertwined. If they merge, either light or darkness will ensue. The power of all creatures on earth must always be balanced in order for peace to remain.
I read this twice and let out a very annoyed sigh.
“You’re a slow reader,” he criticises and I turn around in my chair and glare at him as he smirks, a fang glinting dangerously.
“I don’t feel like my soul is intertwined with yours,” I snap, “And just because our souls are intertwined does not mean we are going to get along,” His hand quickly grabs a long black curl and threads it through his fingers.
“Whatever you say, sweetheart,” he says with an undertone of condescension, completely dismissing my thoughts and feelings.
“I really don’t see how you are my… I can’t even say it. I’ve read the prophecy and I still don’t believe it,” I stand up and he catches my hand, bringing it up to his mouth his presses his lips against my skin lightly and then licks across my knuckles gently.
“I guess it doesn’t matter,” he says against my hand, before leaning up to give me a heated stare, “Whether you believe it or not is no concern. I believe it and that should be enough confirmation.”
“You,” I say quietly, taking my hand from his, “Are the most arrogant vampire in this world. What about me? What about how I feel about this?” I narrow my eyes when he shrugs.
“It doesn’t matter how you feel,” he says, smirking, “Because no matter what you say, do or feel… you’ll always come back to me. One, because I said so, and two, because you inevitably will. And you are attracted to me. You can’t deny it after the last two kisses we shared. You’re mine, sweetheart. You better get used to it,” My face heats with from fury at his words and I open my mouth to reply then close it abruptly. What was the point in trying to have a conversation with him?
I turn on my heel and stalk my way out of the room.
“Where are you going?” he asks darkly.
“Leave me alone,” I yell over my shoulder. He starts striding towards me as I exit out into the hall and turn to the right. This should be the way to go…
He catches up with me quickly and walks beside me.
“I need my own time Darrius,” I say as he looks down at me.
“This isn’t the way to my room,” he says, “Where do you think you are going?”
“To your brother,” I snap, “To see if Claudia is here. I need to talk to a girl, even if she is a vampire. Plus, we get along. I need a break from you,” he smiles and walks with me towards his brother’s room.
“You’ll have to come back to my room later on. I won’t let you stay anywhere else. I have even more reason to keep you under my guard now. You can’t avoid me forever, sweetie” he says lightly, as if he is talking about the weather.
“I can always try, Darrius,” I say lightly back in the same tone.
I finally reach his brother’s door and I see Claudia come around a bend in the hall and walk towards us. She gives me a smile and a scowl for Darrius. I look up at him to see him return the scowl to Claudia.
“Can you leave now?” I ask him, “I need some time away from you.”
“That’s it girl,” Claudia says, coming to stand beside me, facing Darrius, “You keep on telling him what to do, don’t listen to a word he says. Sometimes he is all talk, tries to act tough. Don’t buy into it.”
Darrius rolls his eyes and then looks back down at me. I have my arms crossed over my chest and am glaring up at him.
“Until later then, my little feisty darling,” he smiles when I scowl deeply and he turns on his heel and strides away. I turn to Claudia and she gives me a raised brow.
“What brings you here to me and John?” She asks.
“I was hoping I could talk to you,” I say, “A girl to girl talk, if you know what I mean. I know you’re a vampire but –”
“I know exactly what you mean,” she says, giving me a warm smile and opening the door, “Come on in. John should be sleeping.”
“Thank you,” I follow her in.
Finally, a break from Darrius. I had a feeling after confirming that prophecy he wasn’t going to get any easier to be around. In fact, it’d probably get a whole lot worse…
