Chapter 1- Apple Thief

I woke up and looked at my clock, it was 7:15! Class started in 30 minutes and I just woke up. I growled in frustration.

I can't believe I slept through my alarm clock.

I quickly threw on my red life guard hoodie I got from working at the community pool over the summer, and slipped on a pair of jeans. I looked at myself in the mirror. "Hmm" I hummed.

I feel like I'm missing something. I reached over and grabbed a necklace. It was a small circular locket with a picture of me and Kye in it. He gave me it for my birthday present. I smiled and shoved it in my pocket. I know I can't put it on myself so I'll just wait till Kye gets here.

I rushed down the stairs, and went to the kitchen. I quickly grabbed an apple from the fruit basket on the counter. I walked over to my bag to check I have everything I need for the day. As I went to put my bag on I heard a car horn honk at me. I smiled big, knowing my bestfriend was outside waiting for me. "Bye, mom!" I hollered as I opened the door.

"Bye, honey have a good day!" She yelled back. This was my first day of junior year, and I was already ecstatic. I rushed outside and found Kye sitting on the hood of his Honda Civic twirling his keys on his finger.

"You look," he said with a grin. "Awful." I rolled my eyes at him. "Thanks." I said dryly.

I handed him the necklace and turned around lifing my hair up. I heard him make a noise that sounded like a shrug, and he draped the locket around my neck and clipped the back. "Thanks" I smiled and gave him a hug. He puffed out a breath of air when I latched on to him.

"No problem." He said into my hair. I loosened my grip and let go, realizing I was on my tip toes. He's gotten taller since the last time I saw him. In fact the last time I saw him was two months ago. He went to some summer camp across town. I decided not to say anything about his height because I knew he would rub it in my face that he was taller.

I opened the car door to the passenger side and hopped in. Since I didn't have a license he promised to drive me around everywhere. Including to and from school, of course. He turned the keys to start the car. "Seatbelt" he griped.

"Sorry." I replied. I quickly strapped the seatbelt over me and clicked it into place. I looked up and smiled. He looked at me and started laughing.

"What?" I asked questioning him.

"You're face." he said, still laughing.

"Whatever." I took the apple I had in my sweat shirt pocket and took a bite. It made a sound that expressed how crips and juicy it was. Before I could take another bite it was snatched from my hands and I heard the satisfying sound come from the driver's seat. I glared up at Kye. He's eyes were focused on the road, still chewing on the apple he stole from me. I sighed and rolled my eyes, taking out the banana I brought just in case of this very moment.

"Apple thief." I said peeling open my banana. I saw a smile tugging on the corner of his mouth.

"Whatever you say, Monkey." He said, obviously proud of the nickname. It was honestly kind of funny so I couldn't help but start laughing. Before I knew it the whole car was filled with our laughter just because of a stupid name.

I missed this. The car rides. Laughing over nothing. Being together. I didn't realize I missed him so much until this very moment. I love him. But I could never admit it because I didn't want to jeopardize our friendship. So I had to move on.

I could already tell this was going to be a good day, not because it was sunny out or because I like school, but because I get to spend it with Kye, my bestfriend. I'm glad we signed up for the same classes. We ended up getting five out of the six classes together. The only class we didn't have together was English. But that's because I signed up for advanced English.

When we arrived at school I hopped out of the car and onto the side walk. Kye was walking next to me. I didn't notice I started to breath heavily until Kye turned to me. "Hey," he said. "It's gonna be fine." I smiled.

He held opened the door to the school. "After you, m'lady." He said with a grin. I laughed and walked through the door.

"Thank you, good sir." I said with a curtsy. He laughed and we started walking towards our locker. Yes, our locker.

I twisted our combo onto the lock. We asked for our own combo. It was our birthday, August 17th 2002. We turned sixteen over the summer but my mom said I wasn't allowed to drive till I was eighteen, so that's when Kye promised me he'd drive me everywhere.

I envied the girl that will end up with him, because he's perfect.

I opened the locker and found out Kye decorated it with pictures of us and lights and stickers everywhere. I turned around and probably smiled the biggest I've ever smiled and hugged him tight. He wrapped his arms around me.

"I take that as, you like it?" I smiled bigger and hugged him tighter.

"Ya, ya I do." I let go and we neatly put our books inside. The bell rang and we walked to science together.
