“Did you have to invite her tonight?” Enrico groaned from the island as he watched Izabella make dinner.
It wasn’t his first time asking that.
The young woman turned around to face him with an exasperated eye roll. “Enrico, like I’ve told you the last ten times, I want Jacob to know that I support him and that he didn’t have any reason to be afraid to tell us about Alexa. Why are you so upset anyway? Weren’t you supposed to be somewhere tonight?”
“Yes, but I decided it could wait. As for me being upset, I wanted to take you out on a date. We have never spent time together alone and you know it.” She watched as he frowned, his broad shoulders slumping slightly with the action.
“A date?” Her stomach was filled with butterflies, possibly an entire zoo, but she wasn’t about to let him know that. Enrico nodded, his grey-green eyes scanning her face before he chuckled.
“You’re blushing, fiore.” Izabella’s hands flew to her cheeks as she gasped.
“Yes, you are.” The young female just rolled her eyes and grabbed the plates on the kitchen counter.
“Carry these to the dining room and get ready. Alexa will be here in less than an hour.”
“Okay.” With a light peck on her cheek, Enrico picked up the bowl and walked out.
Shortly after Enrico had left, Jacob entered the kitchen and crept up on her. Izabella startled and almost dropping the sauce pan in her grasp and she tired to glare at her grinning older brother. “You idiot! I could’ve dropped this!” Jacob snickered in delight, clearing unfazed by her reaction, but soon sobered up when he realized Izabella didn’t find the situation as funny as he did.
“Hush! Why aren’t you dressed yet? Alexa’s coming tonight and if I don’t see you dressed by the time I finish here, I’m above this spoon down your throat.” Yes, it was a bit violent, but it wasn’t anything new to the family.
Jacob frowned. “Alright, no need to be so rude.” He muttered, walking out of the room, slouching.
“Boy, if you don’t stand still, I will sock you so hard.” Izabella growled with narrowed eyes fixed on her older brother.
The young man stiffened and waited for her to finish buttoning his cuffs. He still hadn’t learnt to do it. “Thanks, princess.” He grinned when she finished and placed a light kiss on his cheek, smiling at the small hairs on his jaw that pricked her lips.
“You didn’t shave properly. Don’t worry, it’s not very visible.” She smiled and gasped when a hand grabbed her waist, spinning her around to face her captor.
“I need help.” Enrico frowned down at her, his navy blue tie hanging loosely around his neck.
“You did it before.” Izabella grinned, taking the tie in her hands and beginning to fix it.
“Ugh!” Jacob groaned from behind her. “You guys are so gross.” The young woman turned to him with a scowl, almost choking Enrico as she finished fixing his tie.
“I’m sure you and Alexa will be just like this.” She teased, loving the pink tint that possessed her brother’s cheeks.
“Shut up.” He murmured, waving her off as he walked away.
Izabella giggled and pulled out of Enrico’s grip, rolling her eyes at his pout. “Come on-” The doorbell rang and she squealed, grabbing his hand and rushing to the door. She couldn’t make Enrico budge no matter how hard she pushed or pulled, but he was putty in her presence so he let her guide him.
“Careful, Fiore. You’re wearing heels!” Enrico’s voice was filled with concern as he watched his fiore run to the door, already letting go of his hand.
Izabella didn’t acknowledge his words as she reached the door and pulled it open with enough force to detach it from its hinges.
Enrico held back a smirk at her strength, his fiore was strong both mentally and physically, well, when she wanted to be.
“Hi! You’ll see Jacob soon, he isn’t important now. I’m Izabella, his sister. You’re Alexa, right? I’ve been waiting for you. Did I make you cancel any plans? I’m sor-” Enrico’s hand stopped her rambling as Jacob sighed and pushed her out of the way.
“You need a leash.” He playfully glared at her twinkling eyes and felt a wet, warm sensation on his palm. “Seriously?” He asked, his facial expression one of boredom with no trace of amusement.
The young female wriggled out of his clasp and grinned cheekily. “I’ll get you a leash.” She countered and Enrico smirked.
“And what do you intend to do-”
“Okay! You both are disgusting. Ewww! Come in, Alexa. I have no idea why Jacob hasn’t been able to communicate with you, but I’d like to assume it’s because of how stunning you look in that dress.” Sean pipped up, offering his hand to Alexa who accepted it, a light blush on her cheeks.
“You’re quite the charmer.” Her accent was thick and very foreign.
“Woah! Your accent is so non-English.” Izabella commented before frowning at how Enrico’s grip had tightened around her arm.
Alexa laughed, throwing her head back and placing her palm on her chest, though the way her eyes lingered on Enrico didn’t bypass Izabella.
She didn’t like that.
“Hey! You won’t steal my girlfriend.” Jacob scowled at his brother, taking Alexa’s hand out of his and kissing her cheek.
“Hey, baby.” Izabella resisted the urge to cringe or laugh and looked up at Enrico, her frown returning at the far away look on his face.
“Are you okay?” She reached up and placed her palm against his cheek, her thumb brushing against his jaw.
He stared down at her, his eyes scanning her entire face, caressing her concerned eyes and full lips before going to the direction everyone had gone off to. “Something’s not right.” He wasn’t going to keep it from her, though he wouldn’t tell her everything, she needed to know.
“What?” Izabella asked, her browse knitted in confusion and slight worry.
“Something’s wrong with Alexa.” He repeated and she sighed.
“Enrico, she Russi-”
“It’s not just that. I’ve seen her face before, in one of the files concerning the Russian mafia. They’re our biggest enemy and I won’t put it pass them to send a spy.”
“She was watching you. I don’t know.” Izabella huffed, conflicted, she knew Enrico was experienced, but she didn’t want to believe what he was saying. The male noticed her internal conflict and sighed.
“I won’t do anything until I gather information and confirm it. Just be careful. I’ll tell Austin to be alert.” He placed a soft kiss on her hair and pushed her forward a bit, gesturing for them to follow the others who had left the room a while ago.
“Took you two long enough. I gave you permission to court her, Enrico. No funny business.” Mr. Knight warned playfully though his eyes were steely and everyone understood he was being serious.
“Dad! Trust me a little more than that.” Izabella whined with a pout and the man beside her felt his heart melt a tiny fraction. She was right there, right beside him and it wouldn’t take much longer for her to be totally his. His eyes roamed each face surrounding the table and landed on Alexa.
She was staring right back at him and when she caught his eye, she smiled and looked back to Jacob who was animatedly telling her some dad joke he had read online.
There was something about the woman that unsettled Enrico’s mind and he just had to get her files. Discreetly retrieving his phone from his pocket, he sent a quick text to his hacker, asking him to get what he wanted. He wouldn’t rest until his nerves were eased.
“Enrico.” Izabella’s small hand palmed his thigh, it appearing extra small due to his large frame and bulging thigh muscles.
“Fiore.” He called back. His eyes meeting hers and just to not get her riled up, he sent her a quick smile, his mind reeling. He was going to start being more careful. Alexa already knew Izabella meant a lot to him and if she was who he thought she was, everyone in the room was in immense danger.
“I saw her. I’m beginning to dislike her and that’s not good. Don’t be in the same room with her alone. Ever.” She gritted before moving her grand on his thigh to his hand.
Enrico smiled at the action and tightened his hand grasping hers, not enough to hurt her as he could never imagine hurting her. He grinned, ready to tease her, but was already shot down.
“I’m jealous and angry so don’t test me, boy.”
“I’m not a boy.” He frowned and Izabella cracked a small smile.
“You’re right, you’re a big boy.”
“Know what else is b-” Izabella pinched his side to stop the words from flowing out of his mouth and sighed in disappointment.
“What am I going to do with you?” She muttered.
“Many things.” Ignoring his reply, she turned to look at everyone and smiled as he whispered in her ear.
“I was going to say my house is big. Your mind is so warped, very unlike your appearance.”
“Looks can be deceiving, my dear child.”
