Chapter 1

When I arrived at the library and walked in, I didn't see him anywhere. Hm, I thought, he must not here here yet. So I sat down at our favorite table and opened up my Algebra notebook.

All of a sudden, I heard whispering from behind one of the bookshelves. When I went to see who it was, I froze.

There was Kyle, making out with Anna Pearce, the head cheerleader.

"K-Kyle?" I said, tears forming in my eyes.

I started to walk off when I heard Kyle call my name.

"Alexa, wait."

"Don't even talk to me. How could you, Kyle? It's about to be our one-year-anniversary."

"I know. I'm sorry."

"How long has this been going on?"

"Uh," he said as he scratched his head.

"Tell me the truth, Kyle."

"Three months."

"Look, we've been drifting apart for a while."

"You know I've been wanting to work things out. You could've talked to me instead of cheating on me with the biggest slut in school."

"She's not a slut, Alexa."

"Well, fine. If you want her, Kyle, you can have her. We're done." And with that, I walked out, got in my car, and drove home in tears.

The next day I felt worse and tried my best to avoid him. He didn't seem to care, though. He was spending all his time with Anna.
When I saw Maddie at lunch, she tried to be sympathetic and cheer me up.
"I'm really sorry, Alexa. If I had known what he was doing, I would've told you instead of you having to find out this way."
"I know. You're my best friend. I just wish I would've found out way sooner than so close to our anniversary."
"Well, you know what. If you want him out of your life, then he's out of my life, too. If he's gonna hurt my best friend, I want nothing to with him."
"Thanks, Maddie. You're the best."
When I got home from school after a long day of trying to avoid Kyle, I noticed my mom and dad sitting in the kitchen.
"Hey, Dad. You're home from work early."
"Honey," Mom said. "I think you'd better sit down." When she said that, my stomach sank.
"Mom, what's going on?"
"You wanna tell her, Jim?"
"Sweetheart, you're mother and I are getting a divorce."
"What? Why"
"Honey, you're father has been cheating on me with someone from work."
I couldn't believe what I just heard. My dad was cheating on my mom just like Kyle had been cheating on me.
"Dad, I can't believe you," I yelled as I got up from my chair. "How could you do that to Mom? You're no better than Kyle. You both suck. I hate you, and I'm never talking to you again."
I ran up to my room and plopped on my bed, sobbing. My whole life had gone up in flames in two days. But at least I stil had Maddie and my mom.
