Chapter 43

I jolted awake as I felt cold water hit my face. “This isn’t nap time.” One of the guards growled at me. At least I’m assuming they were guards, there was three of them in total. I hadn’t noticed them before when I first came in. I must’ve passed out from the shock of seeing my parents.

“Now as I was saying, it’s a pleasure to finally be in your presence. The “almighty phoenix” I’m in the presence of a legend apparently.” He smiled at me. There was no warmth in his smile.

I looked around the room once more before responding. “What do you want with me?”

He gave a loud laugh, startling me. “What makes you think I want anything with you?”

I stared at him in confusion. “Well you kidnapped me...”

He started laughing even harder. “You think all of this is for you? I’ll admit maybe before, but now you aren’t our target.” He got up from his chair, walking around it until he was standing right in front of me. “No no no, I have a much better target in mind. Someone who’s death I know you will feel, like how we felt ours!” He snarled in my face. I flinched back in fear. Up close those scars looked even more menacing.

“Why are you doing this!? She’s not even dead.” I argued. This revenge of theirs no longer made sense if she never really died. So why did they still want to hurt me? and who were they planning to use?

He glared at me for several seconds, then made his way back to his chair. “No thanks to you, you tried to kill her and failed.” Don’t these people understand it was an accident? My goodness I was like three! “Take her back to the cells, I have a feeling our guest will be arriving soon.”

Who are they waiting for? Does anyone know I’ve been kidnapped? They could be waiting for nothing. I shrieked as one of the guards suddenly grabbed my arm, heaving me from the chair. Do they know how to be gentle? Jeez I’m still a girl. He didn’t wait for me to get my footing as he dragged me out of the room.

“I can walk just fine no need to drag.” I complained. He grunted and continued dragging me. He opened the door to the cell taking me back to my place. I waited as he roughly chained me back up. “Same time next week?” I winked at him. I was not expecting the slap that came next. I winched in pain as my cheek stung, hearing the cell door slam shut. I guess we won’t be having a second date. The stinging from my cheek was starting to bring tears to my eyes, or maybe I was just crying. How was I supposed to get out of this? I had no help and no idea where I was. For the first time in my life I was completely helpless.

“Are you ok?” Jeremy whispered quietly next to me. I didn’t want to talk to him, I was still upset about him and the angels wanting to kill Xavier. He sighed. “Listen I know you’re mad at me, but right now I’m all you got. Communication will stop us from going crazy.”

I finally looked over at him. “If we got out of this and I took you to meet Xavier would you lead the other angels to him?” He looked down at the ground. “That’s what I thought, I have nothing to say to you.”

I jolted awake as I heard a commotion outside of my door. Did they finally come to kill us? I struggled against my chains hoping to at least be able to defend myself, but no luck. Jeremy stood still as a statue watching the door. Did he know who was on the other side?

“She’s in here.” I faintly heard a voice across the room on the other side of the door. There was a loud bang making me jump, like someone threw their self against the door. What was going on out there? Another loud bang and the door flew across the room, missing me by inches. My eyes widened as I saw Draco standing there. Oh thank god! I’ve never been so happy to see him in my life. “Draco!”

He rushed over to me, yanking the chains off me. I threw my arms around him in a tight hug. Sure he gets on my nerves a lot, but I was more than glad to see him.

“I do all the work and he gets all the love?” I look around him to see Hades standing in the doorway. I broke away from Draco rushing over to him, I threw myself into him wrapping my legs around his waist.

“I was so scared.” I mumbled into his shoulder. I felt safe with him holding me. I tightened my hold around his neck.

He wrapped his arms around my back pulling me even more into him. “It’s ok I’m here.”

“So are we too.” More voices spoke behind him. I looked up from his shoulder to see Sydney Thanatos Xavier Erebus and tho- wait Xavier? I froze looking down at his smiling face.

Instantly I dropped from Hades. “What the hell is he doing here? Why would you guys bring him?” I grabbed him pulling him close to me.

Thor scratched the back of his neck nervously. “Funny story...”

I glared at him. “There’s nothing funny about this situation.” Then it finally clicked what my father said. Its not me they want, its Xavier. “Its not safe for him here! We have to go now.” I was trying to control my panicking. I don’t know where the guards are or my parents, but I knew we weren’t getting out of here without a fight.

“What do we do about him?” I looked back in the cell to see Thanatos crouched next to Jeremy. I had forgotten all about him.

“They want to kill Xavier, him and the other angels, they’re after him. I don’t think its safe to take him with us.”

“What do you mean they want to kill Xavier? Why?” Erebus questioned.

I looked back at Hades, did he know yet? Well he was about to find out. “Because he’s the Antichrist.”

Erebus frowned at me. “The Antichrist? That would mean he’s- ”

“My son.” He didn’t break eye contact with me as he said this. I tried to read his reaction to the information, but his face was blank. Was he mad? Happy?

“We don’t have time for this. We can discuss this in the safety of a place we know.” Thanatos cut in. He was right, now was not the time.

“What’s the plan? Where do we go?” I asked no one in particular. I wasn’t sure who was the leader of this search and rescue.

“You need this.” Draco walked up to me, handing me my dagger. I removed one hand from Xavier to grab it, before holding him close again. Once again I could feel the magic from the dagger, I felt more...alive.

“Hades teleport us back out of here.” Sydney commented. I was happy and grateful to see she came along. It was good to know she would always have my back. Even if she didn’t fully have control of her powers yet and could possibly be murdered by my parents. That’s what best friends are for.

“Ok, everybody gather together.” He instructed.

“Gather together? Don’t tell me you guys are planning to leave so soon?” We all freeze, hearing Jasmines voice. Just great, we were so close. Maybe we could just ignore her and still escape?

“This is not your fight Jasmine. You don’t have to do this.” Thanatos replied to her.

She glared at him. “What makes you think it’s not my fight?”

He shook his head at her. “You’re better than this. You know she doesn’t deserve this.”

“I think you got me confused with the girl you used to love.” She snarled.

He stepped away from the group, going closer to her. What the hell was he doing? I would have reached out for him, but I was afraid to let Xavier go, he was my first priority. “Come with us.” My eyes bugged. Was he joking?

“No way is she coming with us! She’s the reason I’m here. She helped them kidnap me.” I argued.

She rolled her eyes at me. “Relax sister I wasn’t planning to join this band of freaks anytime soon.” Erebus scoffed when she called us freaks. Although I silently agree with her, we are a weird group.

Thanatos sighed. “Then you leave me no choice.” Quicker than any of us saw coming he rushed her, slamming his elbow against her temple, knocking her out cold. Just as I was about to cheer, he scooped her up, throwing her over his shoulder. “Let’s go.”

“Uh what do you think you’re doing? We are not taking her with us.” Sydney took the words right out of my mouth.

“She’s better to have as an ally than an enemy, trust me.”

“What makes you think she’s going to help us?” I asked him. He looked down at her in his arms, for a split second I thought I saw adoration in his eyes.

“I know her, now let’s go.”

I open my mouth to argue some more when Hades cut me off. “Enough Isabel, we need to get Xavier to safety.” He grabbed my arm forcing me in the circle. As he started teleporting us a sudden thought crossed my mind. Why did jasmine show up when she did?
