Chapter 44

“Are you planning to watch me all day?”

I lean back in my chair, crossing my legs. “If that’s how long its going to take for you to reveal your true intentions then yes.” I glared at her. When we got back yesterday Thanatos decided to lock jasmine up in one of the rooms at the castle for reasons unknown. I personally think it isn’t safe and that she should be in one of the dungeons, but arguing with Thanatos is like talking to a brick wall. So, I have taken it upon myself to keep an eye on her all day, or until Thanatos changes his mind and locks her away.

“I don’t want to be here just as much as you don’t want me here. Why don’t you try convincing Thanatos to let me go instead of watching me like a hawk? I hear he has a real soft spot for you these days.” She smirked at me. I didn’t answer her because I indeed have already tried to convince Thanatos, whatever 'soft spot' he had for me is gone. “Cat got your tongue little sis?” She laughed laying back on the bed. That’s right, her room even has a bed plus a personal bathroom. Is she a hostage or on vacation?

The door to the room opened and Thanatos walked in, his eyes instantly went to me sitting in the corner. “I told you not to bother her.” He shook his head at me.

“How is me sitting here bothering her?” I challenged him.

“Your presence itself is annoying.” Jasmine commented.

“I could say the same about you.”

Thanatos rolled his eyes at the both of us. “I think Hades was looking for you.” He addressed me.

“He knows where I am.” Since we got back Hades has been avoiding me, we haven’t been able to talk about the whole Xavier is his son thing. I think he believes I’ve known all along. On the bright side though he’s spending a lot of time with Xavier. Which is why I have time to watch jasmine.

“Does he?” He raised an eyebrow.

I shrugged. “If he doesn’t that’s not my problem.”

“Ugh if you guys are going to flirt at least do it outside the room.” She grabbed a pillow covering her face with it.

“Don’t be jealous jasmine, you know you’ll always be my number one.” He winked at her. I wish somebody would gag me right now. Why was he flirting with the enemy?

She growled at him. “Bite me.”

“Don’t tempt me.”

“Why are you here?” I interrupt.

“I should be asking you that, I told no one to bother her and yet you’re sitting here watching her like a zoo animal.” He crossed his arms.

I rolled my eyes. “Well if you didn’t have our enemy roaming freely, I wouldn’t have to watch her.”

“I told you she’s not the enemy.”

“Oh I’m most definitely the enemy.”

“Shut up jasmine.” She shrugged.

The door opened again, I was surprised to see it was Hades. He paused as he walked fully in, until he eyes landed on me. He shook his head. “Come on Isabel.”

I glared at Thanatos. “What did you do?”

He shrugged. “I just telepathically told my brother you were causing a disturbance and that he needed to take you away.”

I snared. “I was not causing a disturbance!”

“He’s not going to be able to get anything out of her with you here staring holes in the side of her face.” Hades commented.

Wow so they’re teaming up on me now? Am I the only one that doesn’t find anything wrong with this situation? She’s our enemy! Fine. “Alright I’m leaving.” I got up from my chair making sure to bump both him and Thanatos on the way out.

“Isabel wait!” I ignored him as I made my way down the hall. A yelp left my mouth as I was suddenly shoved up against the wall. Hades looked down at me with a raised eyebrow, trapping my arms against the wall. “I’ve killed people for ignoring me before you know.”

I glared at him, trying to free myself. “Good for you.”

“I wasn’t picking sides.”

I tried freeing myself once again, but he had a solid grip, Since when was he stronger than me? “I never said you were.”

He looked me up and down. “Mhm so why did you ignore me?”

“Maybe I didn’t hear you? Now do you mind letting me go?” Before I stomp your foot.

He laughed, releasing my arms. “No need to get violent.”

I paused. “What?”

“Would you really have stomped my foot? You need anger management.” He snickered.

I stared at him like he grew two heads. “I never said I’d stomp your foot.”

He rolled his eyes. “I clearly heard you.”

“I thought that.” He seemed thoughtful for a minute, then shrugged. “You’re not freaked out about that? You read my thoughts!”

“Wouldn’t be the first time.” He replied all calm and collected.

“What!?” He’s read my mind before!?

“Actually Isabel I think we have more important things we need to discuss.” He suddenly got a serious look on his face. He didn’t think the mind reading thing was serious? “Why didn’t you tell me Xavier was mines?”

I knew that was coming eventually. I sighed, “Honestly I just found out on the day I was kidnapped.”

“How didn’t you know?”

“Maybe we should go somewhere to talk that’s not the hallway?′ He nodded agreeing with me. I followed behind him as he leads me to his room. Funny thing even though Hades has been ignoring me since we got back, I’ve been staying in his room. Thanatos words 'why don’t you go to your baby daddy room?' Then he proceeded to slam the door in my face. I wouldn’t say he hated me per se, but he is definitely back to the old Thanatos, aka Death. So now I’m bunking with my “baby daddy”.

“Alright, start talking.” He sat on the bed crossing his arms.

“I didn’t know because you told me he wasn’t yours! You all did, how was I supposed to know everyone was lying? How didn’t you know he was yours? Didn’t you feel anything?”

“I felt a connection with him, when you first told me his name, I had a moment of thinking he was mines. I thought the connection I felt was because he belonged to my brother, so I didn’t think much of it.”

I sighed, taking a seat on the bed next to him. “This is all so crazy.”

“I don’t regret him being my son, he’s an awesome kid you raised him well. But now his dad can teach him the real cool stuff, like how to get girls.” He smirked. I pushed his shoulder making him fall back, he grabbed my arm pulling me with him. I laughed as we both laid back on the bed starring at the ceiling.

“I just wish he didn’t have to go through this, worrying about his mom getting kidnapped or killed. There’s people after me for something I don’t even remember doing, something that happened in a past life I don’t remember. How messed up is that? And now the angels are after him. Angels, the ones that are supposed to protect the innocent.” I ranted.

He cleared his throat. “I’m sorry they’re after him because of me, they would be on your side if he belonged to Thanatos.” I could hear the sadness and regret in his voice. He doesn’t regret that Xavier is his son, he regrets the consequences that fall upon him because of it.

“It’s not your fault or mine, some people just don’t know how to let go of the past.”

He was quiet for a while. “Like how I can’t let you go.”

“Is that the reason you like me? Because of the past me? If we had no history would you treat me differently?” His answer meant everything to me right now.

“The first moment I met you, your first life, I knew there was no one else for me. Even when you chose my brother, I would’ve waited no matter how long it took.” He turned on his side to face me. “You’re all I’ve ever wanted and need, no matter what life you’re on.”

We laid there staring at each other, until he rolled back over. “I want to go after them, just us. I don’t want to put the others in danger anymore.” I announced.

He smiled over at me. “I know you do, which is why I already have our bags packed.”
