Chapter 1: Diamond in the rough
I remember when I first laid eyes on him, He was standing across the cafeteria looking right at me.
It was like something out of a movie, I instantly felt attracted to him but then again I've always been attracted to the whole bad boy look. I blame those bad boy romance novels I read.
You know the ones where the bad boy falls in love with the good girl and there's obstacles but in the end they're together and happy.
I've always liked that idea. Helping someone just by loving them.
People do always say that love can be freeing. I've never loved anybody before so I wouldn't know.
He has light skin and beautiful deep brown disheveled hair along with pale green eyes, his skinny jeans were ripped at the knees and he was wearing a black hoodie.
He was hanging out with another guy, not as attractive as him but still attractive with blue hair and brown eyes, and a girl who looked way too sweet to be hanging out with them.
I've seen her around a lot but never had a one on one conversation with her, her names Kacie and she was cheerful and made a lot of jokes.
She was also very pretty with medium length black hair with bangs perfectly straight across her forehead. Her eyes were dark brown, almost black and had pale skin. Almost like snow white.
Grabbing my lunch, I walk over to the far corner and sit by myself.
Yes I have friends, I'm not a loner. I just enjoy being by myself, I'm not very social anyways. Like I'm not socially awkward or anything I just prefer not to talk.
Looking back over to the guy, he was still looking at me, and the thought of him watching me made heat rise in my cheeks and i look down at my food, suddenly not hungry.
I don't like any attention which is surprising since my best friend is the most popular girl in school, Tia.
She's your typical teenage popular girl, beautiful and mean. But everyone loved her.
Hell I thought the way she held herself was amazing, she never let anything get to her.
She was mean to me sometimes, called me fat or ugly. But she said she was just trying to help me better myself and I believe her.
Throwing the rest of my food away I leave the cafeteria and head outside to get some fresh air.
When I get outside, I walk over to a nearby bench and sit down, ignoring the world around me and pulling out my phone.
"Hey" A smooth voice fills my ears. If voices could be attractive this one definitely was.
I look up and see him walking up to me, noticing it was the guy from the cafeteria.
I look down at my phone, trying to distract myself from him, I type out a quick little message to my best friend, asking if we were walking home again today but she said no because she was going to her boyfriends house.
"What's your name?" The guy asks, taking a seat beside me.
"Dawn, what's yours?" I smile politely.
"Jackson" he smiles back.
I swore my heart stopped, he has a crooked smile that suited him perfectly, was everything about him attractive?
"Nice name" I say before getting up.
"Can I have your number?" He asks before I could walk away.
I smile sweetly at him but decided against giving a complete stranger my number. "No"
"Why not?" He asks
"I don't even know you."
"Then get to know me" he smiles lightly
I smile back half heartedly before walking away.
I don't know how relationships are supposed to work, my mum and dad fought all the time and separated and got back together constantly. They rarely kiss or even hold hands, they don't even stand too close to each other.
They aren't the best love role models. My mum is my best friend though. I love her, I don't know what I'd do without that woman.
I'm not an only child either, I have an older brother and a younger one along with a little sister.
My littler sister is my second favourite person, I spend a lot of free time with her. She's the sweetest little girl you'll ever meet.
My younger brother is a spitfire and full of energy, constantly getting into trouble.
My older brother is quiet and spends most of his time studying and doing homework.
Me? I'm quiet but sassy, but I like to keep to myself. I spend most of my time with my little sister and Tia, my bestfriend.
Me and my dad don't get along. He's one of those very strict religious people and take god way too far.
"Dawn!" My mother calls out.
I groan and roll over. She wants me to get ready for school and I know I should I just don't wanna get out of bed, it's so warm and comfy.
"Dawn you're gonna be late sweet pea!" She calls out again.
"Coming!" I yell back.
I make sure to take my time putting makeup on and getting dressed into a baggy shirt that stops halfway down my abdomen and a pair of skinny jeans and some sneakers before heading downstairs and grabbing an apple.
"Do I have to go? Like yeah I got ready but my bed is still calling my name" I joke before taking a bite of my apple.
"Oh sweet pea of course you don't! Just stay home all the time! Fail every class and have no future, live with me forever" she jokes back.
I laugh at how sweet she sounded "god I love you"
"I love you too, now get out of my house you bum"
I laugh again and throw my apple away before giving her a peck on the cheek and heading out the door.
School was boring so far, I haven't seen Jackson yet. Which I'm kinda bummed about. He's really cute and I can't get him out of my mind but at the same time I want to distance myself as much as possible.
Everything about him drew me in. His pale green eyes, pale features, deep brown hair and that crooked smile.
It's not natural for someone to look so damn yummy! And yes, I said yummy. Because his looks are delicious.
I notice that I'm sitting in the middle of a class, thinking about a guy and smiling like an idiot.
People are gonna think I'm weird, smiling in a boring class.
Yep there goes my social standing, woo. Before I know it I let out a small laugh, making the whole class and the teacher look at me. Oops
"Got something to share Miss Winters?" My teacher asks
"Um no" I reply shyly, looking down at my desk.
"Then why'd you laugh?" She asks
"Um....I just thought of something funny my sister did today."
"Why don't you enlighten the rest of us? Since you interrupted class because of it"
"I'm very good, thanks" I say sarcastically.
She rolls her eyes, visibly annoyed. "Detention for interrupting my class"
Greattt I'm such a idiot sometimes.
After school I head for detention, taking my sweet ass time.
I'm already in trouble, it's not like they're gonna suspend me for being late. At least I hope not because that would be stupid.
After about 10 minutes I finally get to detention and it looks like I'm the only one there, yay.
I take a seat in the back and take out my phone, looking through stories on WattO. Might as well have a good time while I'm here.
After about 5 minutes I hear some people walk in the classroom so I look up and notice Jackson and his 2 friends. His eyes meet mine as he takes a seat beside me. Great.
"It's you again" he smiles.
I politely smile back "yep"
"Why are you in detention? You don't look like the type to get in trouble" he states while studying me.
"I laughed in class" I admitted.
"You're in detention for laughing?" He asks, genuinely surprised.
"My teachers a bitch." I shrug.
He lets out a low chuckle and shakes his head. "Wow".
I just nod and go back to looking at my phone.
"Am I that annoying or do you just like your phone?"
"I'm just not much for talking. Especially to someone I barely know."
"Then get to know me, I'm a blast."
I smile at him. "What if you're like really boring?"
He smiles back at me with that gorgeous crooked smile of his. "I might just surprise you."
I grab a piece of paper and write my number down just as detection ends and hand it to him before walking out.
I hate hormones. I want to stay away from him but at the same time I don't. What is it about him that draws me in?
