Chapter 17

We rode home in complete bliss. He would glance at me, his smile never leaving his face. I felt a burst of pride to be the one to make him this happy. When we pulled in the garage of the mansion, we sat in the car for a few minutes.

He turned to me, his smile fading. "Are we going to tell them today or what? It's your call," he said. I thought about it for a moment and then shook my head after making a decision.

"We'll wait until tomorrow at the mating ceremony. You can say that you object to it and then we tell them what's really happening. Then we can make it our ceremony and do the binding ritual." His smile grew again and he leaned over to kiss me. He pulled back, still smiling.

"Sounds like a plan," he said. We reluctantly let go of each other and got out of the car. When we walked in, a bunch of different scents hit my nose. There were visiting werewolves from other pack, but one stood out in particular. My grandmother. Logan tensed up when he smelt the unfamiliar scents but I laid a reassuring hand on his forearm.

"It's okay. Its family and friends." He nodded once and I opened the door. The living room was dark but before my eyes could adjust, the lights flickered on.

"Surprise!" I looked around in shock. The whole pack was there, along with the visitors that I haven't seen since the moon of my first shift. I was genuinely surprised because nobody has done anything for my birthday in years. My grandmother was the first one to come up and hug me. I hadn't realized how much I missed her until then.

She was my mom's mother. She was human, as was my mother before she met my dad, so I didn't get to see her very often. We were really close when I was younger but she's been too sick to travel all this way, and I took this to meant that she was doing better.

"I missed you my little wildflower," she whispered in my ear. I smiled when she used my old nickname. I hadn't heard it in so long and I had forgotten about it. "I missed you too Grandma."

She pulled away and I was greeted by everyone else. "What are you all doing here," I asked, once we were all gathered in the dining room. There was a huge cake on the table and I hoped it was fudge marble. Or red velvet.

Mom spoke up to answer my question. "They were coming for your mating ceremony, but they decided to arrive earlier for your birthday," she explained. I smiled and sat down beside Grandma who patted my hand with her small, frail one.

I looked around and noticed that Logan was standing awkwardly by the doorway, looking uncomfortable in the room full of strangers. I stood up and pulled him into the room to introduce him.

"Everybody, this is our new Alpha, Logan. Logan, this is everybody." They all greeted him politely and Aaliyah narrowed her eyes at us. "You're not supposed to call him Logan, Shyanne. You have to call him Alpha Logan." My eyes widened and a felt a slight heat on my cheeks when I realized my mistake.

"Oh, right. Sorry," I mumbled, shuffling my feet. I walked back over to my seat and Logan reluctantly sat down on the other side of me. Mom stood up and clapped her hands. "It's time for presents," she announced.

I glanced at Dad and mouthed "presents?" He shrugged and gave me a small smile. "Bring them in Gage," Mom called. I stiffened at the mention of his name. I had completely forgotten about him. Logan grabbed my hand under the table and squeezed. I turned, forcing a smile, but I relaxed.

Gage brought in an armul of wrapped boxes. He placed them all on the table in front of me and I counted five boxes. Three were big and the other two were on the smaller side. Once he finished, Gage looked expectantly at Logan.

"Mind if I steal the seat beside my future mate," he asked with a fake smile. Logan's jaw tightened and he looked up at Gage. "Yes. I mind. There are empty chairs." Gage narrowed his eyes and sat beside Grandma.

I squeezed his hand like he had just moments ago and he seemed to relax a little but his jaw was still clenched. Grandma encouraged me to open my presents and I reluctantly let go of Logan's warm hand. Grandma handed me one of the bigger boxes, telling me that it was from her.

I tore off the wrapping paper and raised my eyebrows in surprise. "You got me a laptop," I asked. She proudly nodded her head. "Yep. I bought it online from the Amozing website." I laughed quietly.

"You mean Amazon," I asked. Her eyebrows knitted together and she gave me a stern look that said "don't correct me." I smiled and gave her a hug.

"Thanks Grandma," I said appreciatively. She nodded and handed me another box, which was from Mom. It was the biggest one and I opened it to see a neatly folded dress. I took it out the box and held it up.

It was a beautiful floor length sapphire blue dress with a sweetheart neckline. The skirt of the dress had decorative lace over the satin material. I looked at the tag and saw that it was the right size. I also saw the designers name and my eyes practically bulged out of my head.

"How the hell did you afford a Dolce and Gabana dress," I asked her. Grandma smacked my arm and held out her palm. I sighed and said "I don't have coins to put in your swear jar Grandma. I'm sorry." She grunted and withdrew her hand.

"I've been saving up for it. It's for the ceremony tomorrow," Mom said in answer to my question. I folded it neatly, like it was and set it back in the box. "Thanks Mom. It's beautiful." She smiled with pride and slid another box towards me. "These go with the dress," she said.

I opened it and held up a pair of black platform stilettos. I raised an eyebrow and said "Is this for the ceremony or my funeral," I asked sarcastically. I can't walk in heels. That's why I don't own any. Not even wedges.

Mom rolled her eyes and handed me another gift. I opened it and turned it every which way, trying to figure out what it was. Logan reached over and gently took it from my hands, turning it, to what I was assuming, the right way. "It's a symbolic plaque," Logan explained quietly. "The markings are from a language that I learned a long time ago. It means 'good luck on your journeys'." I smiled and looked up at Dad, whom the present was from.

"Thanks Dad. I love it." He smiled at me for the first time in years and I felt my heart warm up. "You're welcome princess," he said in his deep, gruff voice.

The next one, Grandma told me it was from Gage and I hesitantly opened it after glancing at him in suspicion. Underneath the wrapping was a box, and in that box, was a pair of silver earrings with matching sapphire blue jewels dangling from the bottom.

"Those are for tomorrow," he said with a wink. I inwardly shuddered and quietly thanked him. They were undeniably pretty, but I could smell the fake jewelry. He probably got them for fifteen bucks at Walmart.

Once the wrappung paper was disposed of, it was time for the cake. The family all joined in by singing "Happy Birthday" and I listened to Logan's voice beside me as he sung along with the rest of the family.

Mom handed me a knife to cut the cake and once Mom plated them and handed them out, we all sat down, gathered around the table. I was just about to shovel in my first bite when I felt something cold and sticky on my nose. My mouth stood agape and I turned to a laughing Logan.

A smile reluctantly broke out on my face. "That wasn't funny," I told him. He stopped laughing, but continued to smile when he said "I thought it was pretty funny." My smile grew wider when I picked up his piece of cake and smeared the icing across his face. He had vanilla frosting from his nose to his chin and it was smeared all over his mouth.

I laughed at his dumbfounded expression. Giggles broke out across the table and I knew the women were laughing at him. It was funny to see a hot, intimidating guy smile with icing all over his face. He was about to slap some more frosting on my hand but I grabbed my piece of cake in my hand and bolted up the stairs. I ran to my room and shut the door, taking a bite out of the delicious fudge marble cake.

I realize that I was eating the cake like an animal, since I didn't have a plate or a fork, but I technically was an animal, so I didn't really care.

The door flew open and Logan stood there, cake still all over his face. He shut the door behind him, trapping me inside. "That was not nice," he said. I gave him an innocent smile. "What ever do you mean Alpha? You started it," I said sweetly. His mouth quirked up at the corner and he walked over to me, but each step he took forward was a step that I took back.

A few more backwards steps and he had me pinned against the wall. I shoved the rest of the cake in my mouth. I wasn't going to waste perfectly good cake just because he wanted to tease me.

He smirked and watched me chew my mouthful of food with amusement on his face. When I swallowed, he asked "Are you done?" I smiled and nodded. He leaned down and pressed our lips together and I licked the frosting from his mouth. I didn't think he could taste any better but honestly, that cake was amazing.

He pulled back after a few seconds and kissed the tip of my nose, most likely getting the frosting off. He smashed our lips together again and we stayed like that for a few minutes longer. When we pulled away this time I smiled.

"Go wash your face off. I need to go downstairs so we don't arouse suspicion," I said. He smiled, kissed the tip of my nose once more, then went into my bathroom and I heard the sink running. I walked back downstairs and wiped my nose off to make sure there wasn't anymore frosting on it.

I walked into the kitchen and it was quiet as everyone stared at me when I walked in. I took my seat next to Grandma again and she gave me a warm smile. Conversation slowly started back up again. Grandma leaned in to whisper in my ear.

"Why don't we take a little walk, eh wildflower?" I smiled and nodded. I helped her stand and we walked out to the backyard. My grandmother may seem small and frail, but in reality, she was stronger than people would think when they looked at her.

"So you're feeling better," I asked, trying to make conversation. She stopped once we were farther away from the house and looked up at me.

"You don't want to be mated to Gage," she stated bluntly. I blew out a slow breath. Grandma wasn't known for beating around the bush. Not wanting to lie to my grandmother, I looked down at my feet and shook my head.

She brought up her small, wrinkled hand and tilted my face up so that I'd be forced to look her in her warm, round, hazel eyes. "Why are you doing it then?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "Mom and Dad arranged it. I have to," I told her quietly.

"That's bullcrap," she exclaimed. "I never understood werewolves and their silly ways." I smiled at my grandmother. She looked at me and revealed a small smile too. "You like the new alpha, don't you," she asked.

I smiled and nodded. "We're soul mates," I told her. Her eyes widened with joy and surprise. Even though she was human, she knew the significance and rarity of a soulmate.

"Then why are you still having a ceremony with Gage? I thought lycans didntlike sharing," she said.

"Logan and I were going to announce it at the ceremony and then make it our own. How did you know he was a lycan," I asked her. She waved me off with a flick of her hand.

"He's all the pack was talking about when I arrived. I'm happy that you found your true mate little wildflower, and I can't wait to see all the drama go down tomorrow," she said enthusiastically. I laughed. My grandmother loved drama. She was one of the women who sat on her couch watching reality TV shows all day, waiting for a new series to pop up on MTV.

"I just want you to know that I fully support you, Shyanne. Also, I can't wait to see what good looking great grandbabies that man gives me." I laughed again and she joined in.

She hooked her arm around mine and we walked back inside. We were greeted by Logan, who opened the sliding glass door for us. Everyone else most like dispersed to the living room. Grandma let go of my arm and grabbed Logan's hand. "Welcome to the family, darling, and I don't mean the alpha thing."

Logan glanced up at me and I smiled. He flashed me a quick grin before looking back down at Grandma. "Thank you Ms…"

"Just call me Beatrice son. You'll make me feel old." She gave him a smile and disappeared into the living room. Logan locked eyes with me and a bright smile lit up his face. He wrapped his arms around me and laid his head on mine.

"So I'm guessing she knows about us."

"Yeah. She already knew though, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything. I kind of thought she would freak out, but she just said she can't wait for the drama and the grandbabies," I said. He pulled back with a smile.

"I like the sound of that. How many kids do you want?"

"Two," I said.

"Two? I was thinking more like four."

I snorted. "There's a difference between what you want and what I want. I'm the one that'll have carry them and then pop them out, and I am not doing that four times. I'm not even sure I want to do that once, let alone twice, so you'll be lucky if you get two," I told him.

He laughed and pecked my lips. "Yes ma'am," he teased. I smiled and pulled away from him when I heard someone walking towards the dining room, leaving a little distance between us. Aaliyah walked in and narrowed her eyes as she looked between the two of us. Her suspicion disappeared and she smiled at Logan.

"It was hilarious what you did with the icing earlier Alpha Logan." He gave her a small smile and nodded. I stepped away a little further and Aaliyah walked closer. I suppressed a possessive growl when she was only a foot away from him.

"So, Alpha Logan. I was wondering if maybe you'd like to grab dinner with me sometime. Maybe if you're free later on tonight we could go to this restauraunt that just opened up," Aaliyah suggested with a flirtatious voice. Logan glanced at me and seemed to squirm in his spot. "Um…"

"He can't," I blurted. Aaliyah turned to look at me. "I mean, he can't. Because he has a girlfriend. And she doesn't like sharing." I squeezed my eyes shut and shook my head in embarrassment. I sounded so stupid right now. I wish we could just go ahead and tell everyone now so I can claim him as mine and then openly rip a girls head off every time they looked at him funny.

I opened my eyes to see Logan smiling at me in amusement. "Really," Aaliyah asked. "You have a girlfriend," she asked quizzically. Logan looked down at her with his piercing icy eyes.

"Uh yeah. I have a girlfriend. She seems pretty possessive though, so I wouldn't tempt her too much," he said. He was clearly still amused. I felt my pale cheeks heat and I looked down at my hands.

"Oh," Aaliyah said dejectedly. "Well, if you guys ever have any problems, then you know where to find me." She turned and walked out of the dining room. Logan appeared beside me and tilted my head up with his finger. He smiled smugly at me and I felt my cheeks felt like they were on fire.

"You're cute when you blush." I rolled my eyes and he kissed my forhead lightly. "Let's go," he said at last and then I followed him into the living room.

The women were sitting in the living room, all sitting on either the couch or one of the chairs. Mom looked up, smiling about something Mackenzie was saying.

"Oh, hey. Logan, the guys are all out front if you want to go join them for a drink," Mom offered. He smiled politely and shook his head.

"No thanks. I'm feeling a little tired so I'm gonna go up to bed," he said. Mom nodded and and gestured me over to sit between her and Mackenzie. Abby smiled at me from where she sat on the other side of Mom on the large sectional couch.

"Aren't you excited for tomorrow," Mackenzie asked me. I nodded slightly and she looked at me sympathetically. "I know it must be nerve racking. I was a nervous wreck when I had to ne mated to Cody. But once I stepped out and saw him smiling at me from the stage, I didn't feel afraid anymore. Besides, you're a brave strong girl. You'll do just fine."

"Thanks, Kenzie." She nodded and then Abby spoke up for the first time. "Well I'm proud of you, Shyanne. It's hard for a girl to go through with an arranged mating. It doesn't happen often and I remember how hard it was when I went through it before I became Salutary, but I came to love him."

I had almost forgotten about Abby's old mate, Kollyn. He was still alive, but Salutaries aren't allowed to have mates or children. They needed to be strong and healthy and of a sound mind in order to take care of the pack.

Mom grabbed a bottle of wine from the table and poured some in a glass. She held it out, offering it to me and I shook my head. "You know I don't drink Mom," I said. She rolled her eyes and pulled her hand back, taking the drink for herself.

I wanted to go back upstairs and check on Logan, but I had to keep up the act and visit with my family for a little while longer. We talked for almost two more hours and I retired to bed shortly after Mackenzie did.

"Okay. I need my beauty sleep for tomorrow," I said, standing up. "Goodnight guys." They all wished me a goodnight, sweet dreams and all that and I dragged myself up the stairs. Once I hit the fourth floor, I went to my room. I'd check on Logan after my shower. I had been wearing the same clothes since last night.

I stepped into my bathroom and unzipped my skirt, pulling it down and stripped the rest of my clothes off. I turned the warm water on and got in, letting the water cascade down my back.

After rinsing all the soap, shampoo, and conditioner off, I got out of the shower and went to my closet, pulling on some underwear, a pair of shorts and a tank top on over my naked body. I brushed my hair out and twisted it into a bun then quietly tip toed down the hallway in my fluffy pink bunny slippers.

Don't laugh, okay? They were super comfy and I've had them since my twenty-first birthday. I had to buy them for myself but they were still no less valuable.

I softly knocked on the door. I was unsure of whether he heard it or not, but before I could knock louder, the door swung open, showing Logan's smiling face in the darkness. "I've been waiting forever," he teased. I smiled and he pulled me into his room. He cut the light on after shutting the door and embraced me in a tight hug.

He brushed his lips softly against my skin, trailing his mouth along my jaw. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, breathing in the fresh scent of aftershave. The light stubble from earlier was gone now, leaving his face smooth and clean.

He found the sensitive spot under my ear and I felt a shiver run up my spine. "I'm not sure if I can wait until tomorrow," he said softly against my jaw. I pulled back and smiled at him.

"Then don't," I whispered. He smiled and buried his face in my neck. "I can't. I'll wait until you're ready." I shivered again when I felt his soft lips brush against my neck.

I pulled back again. "I can't wait. Let's just do it now," I told him. He studied my face for a few more seconds.

"Are you sure," he asked. I nodded eagerly and a wolfish grin spread on his lips. He picked me up just like he did in the parking lot earlier today, and crushed our lips together. He carried me over the massive bed and gently set me down in the middle of it. He leaned over me and kissed me while I brought my hands up to curl into his hair.

A/N There is some sexual content coming up. It's not detailed or erotic, but I thought I should warn you:)

His hands slid under my shirt, gently roaming over the soft skin of my stomach. He reached up and cupped my breast in his hand, his thumb toying over the bud of my nipple. He slid my shirt up and pulled it over my head before bringing his lips down to meet mine. He unbuttoned my jean shorts and pulled them down and over my feet.

Realizing that I was almost completely naked while he was still fully dressed, I tugged his shirt up. His mouth trailed down to my neck, then to my shoulders, down my arms, over to my stomach, and up to my chest.

When he pulled his pants down I looked up at him. "I don't think we've talked about this, but I've never really done this before." He smiled and kissed my forehead.

"I know. You don't have to worry though, love. If you want to stop just tell me, okay," he whispered. I nodded and took a deep breath. I was nervous at first, but once the sexual tension built, I didn't care anymore. I just wanted him.

He rocked into me and it hurt a little at first but it quickly turned to pleasure. Just before I reached my climax, I felt an urge to bite him, and I knew that this was it. I was about to mark him. He must have had the idea at the same time, because we both sunk our teeth into each other's shoulders in unison.

I felt our connection grow even stronger and when he was resting beside me, his breathing labored, I knew that I would always feel this way towards him. I turned over and laid my head on his chest. He kissed the crown of my head and I heard his soft whisper.

"I love you Shyanne." I smiled at his words, feeling the warmth flip in my stomach. "I love you too Logan." I breathed him in one last time as felt his arm tighten its grip around me, and then I fell into a blissful sleep.
