Chapter 18

I woke up to the feel of water surrounding my body. I fluttered my eyelids open and looked up to see a hazy version of Everett above me softly cooing to me as he brushed my hair back out of my face. Noticing I was in the bathtub, I began to stir and Everett tried to comfort me further. "Shh... you are okay, my moon. Rest."

With his comforting words and tone, I found myself relaxing and drifting back to the darkness as he continued to clean my body of tonights events.

Chris scowled at me, hate burning in his cold eyes, "You will never get rid of me. I will be with you forever."

"No, no you're dead. I killed you." I screamed at him.

"You can't kill me, Amelia. No one can kill me." He said in a sick and twisted tone making me gasp at the cruel man in front of me. I attempted to take a few steps back, to distance myself from him, but I was stuck in place. My body had a mind of its own and I was frozen. All I could do was look at him standing in front of me.

He slowly tilted his head as he stared deep into my eyes. The image before me began to distort when his head didn't stop rotating and it hung at an unnatural angle. Blood began to fill my vision as I felt it run down my face. I let out a blood-curdling scream while my eyes refused to leave Chris' evil smiling face.

I woke myself up screaming, gasping for breath. Everett ran to my side, still wet from the shower that my screams interrupted him from finishing.

"Shh. Shh... Amelia, it was just a dream. You are fine. You are here. He can't get you, my moon." He said as he slid into the bed beside me, holding me tight to his naked, wet chest.

I breathed in his familiar, comforting scent and my pulse began to slow down. Tears pricked my tightly closed eyes, and I happily let them fall as I held onto Everett with all my might. Relishing in the fact that what he said is true. He can't get to us.

I let out a long sigh, and pulled back to look up into Everett's concerned, beautiful eyes. "T-thank you, Everett." I said, gratefully.

He brought his hands up to cradle my cheeks and wipe away the slow falling tears. "For what, my moon?"

"For you, being you. For loving me." I said slowly, almost a whisper.

He smiled down at me. "Amelia, you are everything to me. What's there not to love?"

I brought my head to my hands, and shook my head. Allowing more tears to fall, I sobbed out, "How can you love me, though? I'm a murderer. I killed Chris. I killed."

"Amelia, stop. You defended yourself. You are not a murderer. You are a survivor. If you wouldn't have done what you had to do, Goddess forbid, you might not be here with me right now." He said as he pulled be back to his chest. He rubbed his comforting hand through my long, tangled locks, while I cried. He allowed me to cry for a few minutes more, before he pulled back.

Lifting my head with his index finger, he looked directly into my eyes, reaching my soul. The look he gave me was one of complete adoration and love. He told me with one look, what his words couldn't say. His love for me was unconditional, as mine was for him. He accepted every part of me, every flaw, and every sin. He knew why I had to do what I had to do. He understood, I just hope everyone else did too.

As he stared into my eyes, I look in his appearance. He looked like he hasn't slept in the past few days, and he had stubble covering his usually smooth skin. He looked exhausted and run down. But why?

He gave me a small peck on the lips, and stood from the bed. I looked at him in confusion, but not for long as he leaned down and scooped me up, bridal style, and carried me to the bathroom. The shower was still running and steam filled the entire room, coating the mirrors.

He opened the door to the shower, and stepped us both inside. When he gently placed me on my feet under the spray, I closed my eyes letting the hot water awaken my body. Everett grabbed the soap and began lathering my body, thoroughly cleaning every inch. I just stood there, watching my mate take care of me. He didn't linger over my intimate areas, knowing that's not what I needed at this moment. Once he was done with the soap, he placed it back and grabbed the shampoo. He moved behind me and slowly pulled all my hair back and began working out all the tangles as he washed my hair. I let him rinse my hair and I made a move to go grab the soap to return the favor, but he stopped me by grabbing my wrist.

"No, Amelia. This is for you, you need to know what you mean to me."

I grabbed his hand in mine and brought it to my cheek. I looked into his shinning, emerald green eyes. "Everett, I do know. I love you."

He let out a heavy sigh as tears brimmed at his eyes, "I love you too, my moon. I thought I lost you forever."

"I'm here, and I am never going anywhere. You are my home, my life, for the rest of my life." I said with sincerity.

I leaned in and kissed him with as much strength as I could muster. He deserves to feel the love that he just showed me, so I let it flow through the passion filled kiss. There were so many emotions running through this moment just because of how differently that night could have gone. Regret, loss, relief, and most importantly love.

No longer wanting to worry over the 'what if's' of last night, I broke the kiss. I looked deep into Everett's eyes, just staring at my whole world and future standing right in front of me. I gave him a genuine smile and he quickly returned it. We were happy to be together and safe, no longer having to worry about Chris.

Everett and I released each other and we finished up our shower quickly, and made our way back into the bedroom to get ready for breakfast. I walked into the closet and picked out some black skinny jeans, and plain white v-neck T-shirt, with some black ankle boots. After changing quickly, I walked into the bedroom to see Everett standing by the bed, looking nervously down at his cell phone.

I walked up next to him and asked, "What's wrong?"

"It's just... never mind. We can talk about it this afternoon. Don't worry about it." He stated as he sat his phone back down on the bedside table and placed a quick kiss on my forehead.

I watched as he walked into the closet to get dressed, with an eyebrow raised in question, but decided to let it go for now. He emerged quickly, wearing dark blue jeans, a simple, tight, black T-shirt, and some black converse. Damn him for looking so good. I thought to myself as I looked him up and down, licking my lips. He caught me admiring his appearance and smirked. I gave him a small, appreciative smile and raised a single finger beckoning him to turn around. He let out a full laugh and did as I silently asked. As he turned, I noticed how perfect his jeans hugged his hips and curved with his perfect ass. Once again, damn he looks good.

After making a full turn, Everett looked at me with a mischievous look in his eye, a smirk still in place. He raised a single finger and beckoned me to come towards him. I walked slowly towards him and once we were toe-to-toe, he trailed his hands from my shoulders, down my arms. Goosebumps trailed his touch as he ran his hands down my bare skin. When he made it down to my hands, he reached back and cupped my ass with his large hands and squeezed. A soft moan left my lips as he touched me, making me want more. I bit my lip, and looked up to see lust fill his eyes. With a light swat on my rear, he turned heading for the bedroom door, leaving me flustered and blushing.

"Come on, we have breakfast with Charlie and your parents this morning. We don't want to be late, do we?" He said in a playful tone.

"Tease!" I exclaimed as I narrowed my eyes at his back.

He laughed and shook his head as he opened the door and held his hand out for me to take. With a huff, I snatched his hand in mine and we made our way down the stairs and into the kitchen.

My mom stood at the stove, cooking what smelled like her signature french toast. Yummy! Charlie and my dad already sat at the table, talking quietly, sipping orange juice and drinking coffee. When Charlie lifted his gaze and he saw me his entire face lit up.

"Amelia!" He yelled in excitement as he stood from his chair and ran over to me to hug my waist tightly. I chuckled at his enthusiasm and returned his hug.

"I am so happy you are okay." He said in a muffled voice, still hugging me.

I pulled him back and lifted him into my arms. I held him tightly, just the thought of never seeing him again scared the life out of me. "Of course I am, buddy. I'm not going anywhere." I said reassuringly. He gave me a bright smile, his gray eyes shinning bright.

My dad gave me a smile, relief showing on all of his features at seeing me alive. My mother turned and gave me a look equal to that of my fathers. Relief was all that I saw on everyone's faces. What is going on? I thought to myself as I furrowed my brows.

I cleared my throat and sat Charlie back down on the ground. "Uhh... What's wrong?" I asked, now concerned.

Everyone just stared at me, so I turned to Everett and looked him in the eye. "What's wrong, Everett?"

He glanced down at his shoes before looking back into my eyes. He coughed awkwardly, "Well, you've been asleep for a while. We were all a little worried."

I gaped at him. "For a while? How long was I asleep?"

My mom broke her silence, "Well, honey, the doctor said that you were physically fine, but you did experience a load of mental trauma and your mind needed time to recover."

"Okay, so how long was I asleep?" I asked again in disbelief, since she avoided my question.

"Three days." My dad whispered.

Three days. I was asleep for three days, and I was just now finding out. Everett had how many chances to tell me this morning and he didn't. Oh, hell no.

I turned my heated gaze back to Everett and narrowed my eyes at him. "And you are just now telling me this?"

He visibly gulped and nodded his head once.

I closed my eyes and let out a frustrated breath, attempting to calm my body down. Okay, this is fine. It explains a lot, actually. Me and Everett are going to have a talk after breakfast. That's all. It's fine. I tried to reason with myself in my mind.

"Okay." I mumbled as I made my way over to the dining table and sat down. My mom made her way to the table with a platter filled with french toast, bacon, and eggs. Everyone sat in silence and filled their plates with food and began eating.

After a few minutes of awkward silence, Charlie spoke up. "Hey Amelia, remember my surprise I had for you?"

"Of course, Charlie. What about it?" I asked, giving him a genuine smile from across the table.

"Well, I finished it. So after breakfast, can I show it to you?" He asked me with hopeful eyes.

"I would love to see it! But let me talk to Everett for a few minutes before we go check it out, okay?"

He nodded his head with excitement to show me the surprise that he made for me. My heart swelled at the sight of him getting to be a pup, getting to have a real life.

As we finished up breakfast, I gathered all of the plates and dishes and placed them in the sink. Charlie and my parents headed to the pack house to set up his surprise and I told him I would be over in a few minutes. Everett walked up behind me, and I turned around and leaned up against the sink.

"So what all happened while I was asleep, Everett? Does it happen to involve what you saw on your phone that had you so worked up this morning? Talk to me." I asked, cutting to the chase.

He sighed in defeat and looked me in the eye. "Amelia, I'm sorry I didn't tell you that you were asleep for so long. I was just so excited to finally see you awake, I didn't think about it. As for your questions, while you were asleep I refused to leave your side. So, your dad and a team of my best guards went to the Carmichael pack and took them down. He brought back all of the males, and they released all of their mates. We are keeping the men, if you can even call them that, in the cells. No one was killed, they are all prisoners. Katerina, Maggie and the others are headed here and should be here in the next few days to decide what they want to do with them. As for what I saw on my phone, that's not involved at all. Can we please talk about that later?"

My mind reeled. They captured them all? What about Rita? They were here? Kat and the others were coming?

"Rita?" I asked with tears brimming my eyes, not sure I was ready for that answer.

Everett shook his head. I broke down and collapsed in Everett's arms. Charlie didn't get to say goodbye. No, no, no. Everett held me tight as I sobbed for the second time today. How do you tell a child that he won't ever see his mother again? What do you say?

"We have to talk to Charlie." I choked out between sobs.

"Shh... I already spoke to him, Amelia. It's okay. I explained everything." He said as he rubbed soothing circles on my back.

I looked up at him in disbelief with tears still falling down my cheeks. He smiled at me sadly. "It's why this surprise of his is so important to him, and to me." He said brushing the tears from my face. This man is perfect. Every single thing about him. I know I still want to talk to Charlie, but he went out of his way to explain everything to him. He loves Charlie, just as much as I do. I sighed in content, thankful to have a mate as amazing as Everett.

My heart swelled at the realization over how important Charlie was to both of us. I quickly dried my face with the backs of my hands, and grabbed Everett's hand. "Well, let's not keep our little man waiting any longer." I said, as we made our way to the pack house.
