The Moon’s Pawn
I have a knack for History and Literature so along the way, you'll encounter some interesting "names" and "words". This glossary will help you have a better understanding and insight on the characters and their names as well as where the story is going. This is where I mostly based the names of the pack, kingdom of and some events in the book.
B
Blood Moon- Total lunar eclipse. Widely used to refer to a fully eclipsed Moon which often takes on a reddish color. In this book, this is the time where the abilities of the supernaturals are heightened, hence, they'll be stronger.
C
Crescent Moon- This phase of the moon occurs just after the New Moon phase, which is also known as Dark of the Moon.
E
Earthshine — The light of the sun that is reflected into space by the Earth, and which can illuminate other objects such as the Moon.
Ephemeris — An astronomical text which contains the position of celestial bodies in the sky as seen from Earth at specific times. Supernaturals call this Hecate's book.
Elders- wise wolves of the pack. They usually provide counsel to the pack leaders in making decisions.
H
Hecate- The goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts, and necromancy. She was the only child of the Titanes Perses and Asteria from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and sea. Hecate becomes a powerful Moon Goddess when we combine all of her lunar connections. She can be seen as a Lunar Goddess who rules the moon as a mediator, Under World Goddess, torch bearer, champion of liminal places and times, and Queen of the Witches.
Hundred Years' War- was fought between France and England during the late Middle Ages. It lasted 116 years from 1337 to 1453. The war started because Charles IV of France died in 1328 without an immediate male heir (i.e., a son or younger brother). Edward III of England then believed he had the right to become the new king of France through his mother.
N
Neap Tide — When the Moon is at its First Quarter or Last Quarter, its forces are partially canceled out by the Sun. This leads to a lower high tide than normal.
New Moon — If the Moon is on the same side of the Earth as the Sun, then the face of the Moon that can be seen from the Earth is no longer illuminated by the Sun's rays — as only the opposing side is facing the Sun. As a result, it is invisible in the Earth's sky.
T
The Dire Council - the werewolf council. They work like the senate in a government, composed of former Alphas, Betas and Gammas of the Moon Kingdom.
The Selections- competitions for the best warriors in the kingdom.
The Socials- basically a social gathering for the leaders of the Kingdom.
The Moon Ball- A ball for celebration and "mate hunting". Happens every "Wolf-Moon" of the year.
W
Wolf Moon- "wolf moon" is the traditional name for the full moon of January, when the howling of wolves was a sound that helped define winter.
This will be updated from time to time.
