Chapter 19

“I solved it. The person who’s been attacking you.” Jaxon says.

“Who?” I ask ready for the wrong answer.

“It’s Joe.” Jaxon says, and I can’t help but feel like he might have gotten it right.

“I mean think about it, you kind of know him, he’s strong, a vampire, and he has motive.” Jaxon continues.

“What’s his motive?” I ask.

“His motive is that your brother got too close to him, your mother was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and you were spending too much time with me and he got jealous. I mean we used to do everything together, and now he’s come in second.” Jaxon explains.

“Your right.” I say the pieces of the puzzle clicking into place. Everything making sense.”

“Joe’s been missing for a couple of days, I can’t reach him through his phone, and he’s not at his house. That’s why I started to suspect him.” Jaxon continues. “I say we track him down and then we take care of him. A stake through the heart should do it.”

“Why would we kill him?” I ask scared of the word murder ringing in my ears.

“Because he’ll kill you unless, he’s killed himself.”

“And you’d be willing to kill one of your best friends for my family?” I ask uncertain.

“Yes. Anyone who tries to kill you or your family or friends isn’t a friend of mine.” Jaxon says.

“Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank me.” he says.

“But I do. I never thought vampires could be so nice.” I say.

“That’s because they aren’t. But when they love someone they’ll make sacrifices for them.”

“You love me?” I asked breathlessly.

“Yes.” he says.

“Wait, I’m sorry this is off the subject but, do you eat humans for food?” I ask.

“No, I eat rats and dead birds.” He laughs. “But still sometimes the call for human blood is irresistible. And that’s why I warned you when I met you that I was dangerous and to stay away from me. But now it’s really hard to stay away, because I fell in love with you. A human. Someone I can never be with” He kisse’s my cheek.

I want so bad to say I love you, to him as well, but I’m not sure how I feel, and I’m going to admit to it when I’m ready. But as Jaxon just said we could never be together.

“After this is all said and done. You really should stay away from me. Lucas too.” he adds. I nod, but I want so badly to cry and as the tears come Jaxon wipes them away, as if saying don’t cry for something that would never happen anyways.

“I’m sorry. We’re just too different, and it’s too tempting. I’m going to move away after this so it’s easier.” He adds not knowing it will make it so much harder, but I just nod, and put on a blank face, It’s for the best.
