“Harper, Ryder come on its time for him to go,” Mom yelled.
“I don’t want you to go.” I cried.
He took my hand and we went downstairs, where my parents and his were waiting. I let go of his hand and he hugged everyone then made his way back to me. For the first time, I broke down into tears as he pulled me close to him. He was my best friend and he was leaving.
“Don’t cry.” Ryder rubbed my back trying to soothe me.
“You’re leaving.” I cried.
“I will be back, I promise.” I held onto him tighter while he was doing the same to me.
“Come on Ryder.”
“No.” He kissed my cheek and slowly pulled away from me.
“See you later Harper.”
“Bye Ryder.” I kissed his cheek, squeezing his hand before my mom pulled me into her arms. I sobbed on her shoulder, watching my best friend leave.
“He’s gone, mommy.”
“Baby, you will see him again.” She wrapped her arms tight around me as I held onto her.
“I didn’t want him to go.”
“I know baby. How about I take you girls and we go to grandma and grandpas, and you can swim.” I nodded and she slowly let me go, kissing my forehead.
“Come here, princess.”
“Daddy.” I pulled away from my mom and went to my daddy crying on his shoulder. I was a daddy’s girl, besides Ryder, my daddy is my best friend.
“I’m going to take the girls to my parents, so you got the boys.”
“It will be okay sweetheart. We can call him and video chat with him all the time.”
“Love you, daddy.”
“Love you too, now go get ready for the pool.” He kissed my cheek and I ran up to my room and changed.
“Hey.” I turned to find Bailey, looking at me with her worried eyes. She was just like our mom in that way.
“We’re going to our grandma and grandpa’s for a girl’s day and swimming.” She nodded and came over giving me a hug.
“You okay?” I nodded, hugging her back before she pulled me away. Finally, everyone and changed and we left. The whole way there Paisley held my hand. Whenever something was wrong all of us girls knew right away.
“Momma, can we call him later?”
“We will see, if not tomorrow okay.”
“Okay,” I said sadly and I saw my mom frown.
We pulled up and I slowly got out. I stayed back with mom as she got Caitlyn out. She grabbed my hand and brought me inside.
“Come here, sweetie.” I went right over to my poppa and he gave me a big hug. Poppa always has the best hugs.
“Let’s go throw you in the pool.”
“No poppa.” He kissed my cheek then my grandma pulled me into her arms.
“Love you, Harper.”
“Love you too.”
“Honey, go have some fun.” I nodded and went over to where my sisters were and got ready to jump in the pool.
“How is she doing?” Mom asked.
“She’s upset, she was sobbing when they said goodbye. I wish I could take her pain away. It was so hard watching her cry like that.”
“They will be back.”
“I hope so. It’s not the same without them. I know Lydia and I will be fine, but I’m worried about them.”
“You and Lydia planned their wedding.”
“I know, but we still have a while before that happens.” I smiled then pulled Caitlyn out, so I could get in the water with her. Paisley came over and started to play with her. I looked over and saw Harper and Bailey's splashing making me smile, Harper is smiling again. My babies are too young to have the hurt Harper is feeling right now.
“Come on Ryder.”
“Yes, come on.” My dad came over pulling my hand making me get out of the car.
“Why did we have to move?”
“Sam, let him go.” He let me go and I slouched as I walked into the house. This house is nice but I miss our old house.
“If it’s not too late later you can call her okay.”
“Sure buddy.” I quickly went over to my mom and gave her a hug.
“You know, I know it seems like the world is over but it’s not. Zoey is my best friend, I miss her like crazy, but I know I will see her again like you will see Harper again.”
“Love you, mommy.”
“Love you, buddy, go unpack your room.” I nodded and let her go, going up to where my room was. Walking into my room it felt empty without everyone in here. I walked over and jumped on my bed thinking about earlier.
“Harper phone.” I turned and took the phone from my mom.
“Ryder!” I couldn’t help but smile, my best friend called me.
“I miss you.”
“I miss you too; it’s not the same without you here.”
“I know and I will be back, but in the meantime, I left you something, it’s under your pillow.” I quickly moved and grabbed what was underneath my pillow finding the blanket we always share.
“Yea, I figured you would need it more than me.”
“Hey, I have to go. I will call tomorrow.”
“Okay, love you, Ryder.”
“Love you, Harper.”
We hung up and I curled up with our blanket. The door opened and in came both my sisters, Bailey wrapped her arms around me, as Paisley curled up to me. Tears filled my eyes and they both held me tighter as I cried. I was the stronger sister, they never saw me cry and today I’ve cried almost all day. I just want my best friend back.
