Chapter 20

“Thank you for watching him.” I smiled at my mom and Rowan.

“Of course, we’re going to have a fun night right little man.” Mom smiled bouncing Rowan around in her arms.

“You and Dom have a good time.” Dad smiled making faces at Rowan.

“We will dad. Call me if he needs anything.”

“He’s going to be just fine.”

“I know, let me see him for a minute.” She smiled handing him back to me.

“Be good for Grandma and Grandpa. Momma will pick you up in the morning then we will go see daddy. Love you Row.”

“You better get going. Rowan loves you and so do we.” Mom smiled kissing my cheek as she pushed me out the door.

“Thank you, love you guys.” I gave him another kiss before heading back to the apartment. A sense of nervousness filled me as I made my way up to the apartment.

“How did it go?”

“Good. I have to change then I’m ready.”

“Okay.” He smiled going into his room to get ready. I walked into my room trying to figure out what to wear. I felt like I was sixteen again trying to figure out the perfect outfit. I settled on ripped jeans, my favorite shirt, and a cardigan.

“You look beautiful.” He smiled looking me over.

“Thank you, should we get going?”

“Yea, hope you're hungry.” He smirked taking my hand as we walked down to his car. Looking him over it was like a whole different person. He was my best friend but’s he’s so much more than that.

He wrapped his arms around me as we waited to go into the restaurant. I sighed in content wrapping my arms around him.

“Kinsley.” I turned to find Lucas and Stef.

“Hey, how are you two?”

“Good, do you two want to join us?” Lucas asked looking between both us. Stef shook her head looking up at him.

“This is their first date and no way are we ruining this for them. Next time we can meet up but tonight is their night.” Lucas looked confused while I smiled at Stef. We all need to sit down and figure things out but tonight I just wanted it to be me and Dom.

“Thank you. Lucas, I will see you tomorrow with Rowan.”

“You too have a good night.”

“Yea you too,” Stef smirked at me as she pulled Lucas away. Dom leaned down kissing my forehead as we made our way over to the table.

“I’m so glad he’s with a girl I can get along with.”

“You don’t think he’s jealous, do you?” I looked up at Dom to see he was serious. Lucas didn’t look at me the way Dom did.

“No. We were never meant to be together.” I smiled taking a sip of water. The waitress came over, taking our order.

“What about nursing school?” I finished a semester before I got pregnant then finished one more before I had Rowan.

“I’m still going. I just want to spend a little more time with Rowan. When did you know you were in love with me?” I smiled changing the subject to be more about us.

“This is going to sound super cliché, but I’ve always known. The older we got the feelings grew and I couldn’t get you out of my mind.”

“Does Blake know?”

“Honey everyone but you knew. With everything happening with your ex, that’s when Blake found out.”

“It's crazy to me that I didn’t know. I mean everyone would always joke about it.”

“I’m glad you know now.”

“Me too.” I smiled as he took my hand in his. Sawyer and his sister Mina were the worst and our moms weren’t much better. In high school, I had a little crush on him but then he left for the Army. When he told me was going in, I was hurt. My brother went in because he was following in dad’s footsteps. I felt like Dom was choosing Blake over me.

“So, what’s going on with the army?”

“Just have a couple of months left and I’m out.”

“How do you feel?”

“Relieved I get to spend time with you, and my family. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to miss it. Tagging along with your brother and the guys.”

“It’s going to be nice having you here.” We finished eating before leaving one of our favorite spots. He sat down pulling me tight into his arms. I turned to lean up to press my lips to his kissing him softly. He smiled turning me around, so I was straddling his lap. My phone went off pulling us apart.

“It’s my mom.”

“Answer it.” I nodded quickly answering it.

“Mom, what’s wrong?”

“I’m so sorry. He’s not feeling good and I’m sure he just wants you.”

“I’m on my way.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Mom it’s fine. I will be there soon.”

“Everything okay?” Dom asked as I hung up.

“Rowan’s not feeling good.”

“Let’s go get the little man and bring him home.”

“I’m sorry.”

“There’s no reason for you to be sorry. Besides him being sick this is how it should end. We go home and curl up with little man.” I love this man. He’s way too good to me.

“Dominic...”

“I love you too.” He smiled kissing my forehead.

I could hear Rowan crying from outside of the house. I walked into the house finding my mom trying to rock him, but he was not having it.

“Rowan, what’s a matter baby?” I cooed to him pulling him into my arms. His cries simmered down but he was still upset.

“I’m so sorry. He was fine but then he spit up his milk.” mom cried.

“Mom really it’s okay.” I smiled kissing Rowan's forehead.

“Momma’s got you. How about Uncle Dom and I take you home?” Dom smiled grabbing Rowan’s baby back from dad.

“Hope he feels better.”

“Thank you for everything. I will call you tomorrow.”

“Love you.” She kissed mine and Rowan’s cheek. We left and headed back to the apartment. Rowan seemed to calm down on the ride home.

I curled Rowan up on my chest as I curled up to Dom. He was right this is exactly how our night should end, the three of us curled up on the couch.

“You just wanted your momma.” Dom smiled running his fingers through his hair. I smiled rubbing his back making him look up at us.

“I don’t blame you, she’s pretty amazing.” I smiled kissing his cheek.

“Uncle Dominic is something else.”

“Think he will be okay going to Lucas’s tomorrow?”

“I think so. If anything, I will go get him if I have too.”

“Let’s lay him down and get some sleep.” I nodded taking him into my room laying him down in his crib.

“Love you, buddy.” We both said to him before curling up on my bed. Dom ran his fingers through my hair calming me down.

I rolled over finding Rowan curled up on his chest while both of them slept. I’m surprised I didn’t hear him crying in the middle of the night. I moved closer curling up with both of my boys.

“Is this okay?” I turned smiling up at him.

“Of course, thank you for letting me get some sleep.”

“It was nothing.”

“How’s my baby doing?” I smiled pulling him into my arms. I hissed his forehead seeing his fever has come down.

“I have to get ready for work.”

“I wish you didn’t have to go.”

“Me too.”

“Dom thank you for last night.”

“I’m assuming I get a second date?” He smirked leaning in for a kiss. I smiled accepting the kiss before he pulled away. I turned back to Rowan as he left the room to get ready.

“Hope you're going to be okay with daddy.” He smiled making a goofy face up at me. I scooped him bringing him to the living room, so he could play with his toys. He rolled over grabbing one of his favorite toys.

“I’ll see you later.” Dom came over kissing me.

“Say bye Uncle Dom.”

“Bye, bud hope you feel better.” He kissed his forehead before giving me another quick kiss and leaving.

“It’s just me and you till daddy gets here.” I made myself something to eat before curling up with Rowan on the floor.

“Row, can you say momma?” He smiled before looking the other way. The past couple of days he’s been more verbal so I’m hoping he says momma first.

“Come on bud, just say mom please.” He giggled babbling about something else. Sighing I grabbed some of his things and put them in his bag. Knocking on the door pulled me from my thoughts. I opened up the door to see Lucas.

“Hey.”

“Come on in, he’s rolling around on the floor.” He smiled walking over to Rowan.

“Hey, little man.”

“So, he was with my mom last night. She called and he wasn’t feeling too good. He had a little bit of a fever and it seems to be gone.”

“Speaking of last night, sorry about that.”

“Don’t worry about it. All four of us are going to have to get together and figure this out. He’s still too little but it would be good to figure out the boundaries now.”

“You and Dominic serious?”

“Yea. It’s so crazy to me still. He’s always been my best friend and now things are changing.”

“I see the way he looks at you. Kinsley, you look at him the same way. If he’s good to you and our son I’m all for it. You deserve to be happy so let yourself be happy.”

“I’m working on it. The more time I’m with him I can feel the change. How are things with Stef?”

“Good. The fact that you too get a long helps a lot.”

“Come here baby, let me get a cuddle before you go with daddy.” I scooped him up curling him up against my chest. Lucas smiled getting the rest of his things ready to go.

“Love you, Rowan. Have fun with daddy okay.”

“Momma.” Tears filled my eyes as I looked him over.

“You said, momma! That’s right baby, I’m your momma.” I smiled kissing his forehead, holding him close.

“Momma.”

“Did he just?” Lucas gasped looking us over.

“Our baby just said his first word.” I smiled looking at Lucas.
