Chapter 6

“So how long have you and Blake been talking?” I asked Caitlyn.

“A couple of months. I wish he didn’t have to leave but I get it.” She sighed looking upset.

“Does your family know he’s in the Army?”

“They do and of course they're worried. We’re in a good place and I want to see where this is going.” I nodded taking a sip of my coffee.

“It’s hard but I do feel like you both will get through this.” I smiled trying to give her a reassuring smile. Watching the two of them the past two weeks they were inseparable.

“Dom left too right?”

“Yea but he’s just going to pick up his stuff then come back up here.”

“What’s going on with you two?”

“We’re friends.” I smiled. I’ve been asked that question so many times I’ve lost count. She smirked looking the other way.

“Who is that guy that keeps looking over here?” The hairs on the back of my neck rose while ice ran through my veins. This is my first time seeing Brandon since we broke up. I watched as he smirked when my eyes finally locked on him. Slowly he got up from his chair, making his way over to us. Everything in me was telling me to get up and run but I was frozen to my seat.

“Long time no see.” He smirked.

“Brandon,” I whispered.

“You okay?” She asked.

“Can we go?” I didn’t wait for her answer, I quickly got up and walked out.

“Kinsley, you okay?” Caitlyn rushed out. I nodded trying to catch my breath.

“I’m fine. Sorry I need to go home.” I pulled my keys out and got in my car. Caitlyn got in the car and we quickly headed back to my parents.

“Do you want to talk about it?” She asked when we pulled into the driveway. I sighed looking out the window, so I wasn’t looking at her.

“He’s my ex. I haven’t seen him since he beat me pretty good.” I whispered.

“Kins.” She gasped taking my hand in hers.

“I’m fine. Dom saved me.”

“It’s coming together now.”

“Huh.” I looked at her confused while she smiled.

“He’s your best friend but it’s more than that.” I nodded. Dom wasn’t just my best friend, he’s the one that saved me. My phone went off pulling me out of my thoughts. Brandon’s name appeared across the screen, making chills go down my spine. It was good seeing you. You looked beautiful, can’t wait to see you again.

“Kins.” I ignored her and quickly called Dom. He’s the one the only one that’s going to be able to calm me down right now.

“Hey, I was just about to call you.”

“Dom.” Tears filled my eyes hearing his voice.

“Kin’s what’s wrong?” I could hear the panic in his voice.

“I ran into Brandon and he texted me.”

“Did he hurt you, what happened?”

“No, I’m fine, just a little shaken up.”

“Do you need me to come home?”

“Dom you know you can’t.”

“Come here then.”

“No, you will be here in a couple of days.”

“Fine, you call me if something happens again. And Kinsley I don’t care if I’m only down here another day before I leave. If you have to you can come here anytime or I will be right, there.”

“I know.”

“I’m sorry but I have to get back to work.”

“Okay.” We hung up while I relaxed back into my seat. I looked over to see that Caitlyn had gone into the house. I got out of the car and went inside where Caitlyn was talking to my mom. Mom looked up and smiled as I walked over and sat at the counter.

“This weekend is my niece’s birthday would you like to come with me?” She smiled.

“Yea I think that would be a good idea. How old is she going to be?”

“Charli will be three. I have a pretty big family, so it might get a little overwhelming.”

“You’re the youngest right?” Mom asked.

“Yea, I have three sisters then twin brothers.”

We pulled up to this massive house that Caitlyn grew up in. She got out and quickly grabbed her stuff while I slowly followed her. A woman opened the door as we got closer to the door.

“Hi, you must be Kinsley, I’m Zoey.” She smiled introducing herself.

“Hi.” I smiled shyly.

“I’ll let you two get settled, the twins should be here soon.”

“Come on.” She smiled as we made it to her room. I set my stuff down before sitting down on her bed. Her room was a decent sized room with purple walls.

“Your house is huge.”

“It doesn’t feel like when there are all six of us kids here. Plus, now with all the nieces and nephews it feels like it’s too small.”

“Your mom seems nice.”

“Yea she’s pretty cool.” She smiled unpacking some of her stuff. Hopefully, this weekend will help me relax for once. Dom texted making me smile. I texted him back telling him I was okay and that I would talk to him later. Ever since that incident with Brandon, he’s been extra protective even though he’s still far away.

“Dom texted you?” Caitlyn asked pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Yea, I’m going to call him later.”

“Where’s my baby sister?” a masculine voice yelled from downstairs.

“That’s my brother Lucas.” The door slammed open revealing a very hot guy. Lucas was tall and well built.

“Hey, sis, who’s this?” He turned to me giving me a heartbreaking smile. I smiled shyly before looking away.

“Lucas this is Kinsley, she is Blake’s sister. Kins this is one of my very overprotective big brother Lucas.”

“Hey, you’re the baby.” He smirked making her groan.

“Whatever can you leave us alone, so we can unpack?”

“How long are you staying?”

“Just the weekend.”

“Kinsley it was nice meeting you, I’ll see you two at dinner.” I turned and found him smiling before leaving the room. I turned back to Caitlyn who gave me an amused look.

“Don’t get any ideas.” She smirked.

“Hey, you’re with my brother. Besides I’m not ready for anything yet.”

“You’ll get there.”

After dinner, everyone decided to watch a movie. Zoey and Logan had gone to bed once the movie ended. Lucas’s twin Liam showed up with his wife Cassie and their little boy Zachary. A very pregnant Cassie fell asleep along with their little man, so they made their way home.

“I think she’s asleep,” Lucas whispered.

“Hmm.” I looked over and sure enough, she was asleep. I smiled moving the blanket, so she was covered.

“How about we go upstairs?” I turned back to Lucas who was still smiling.

“We should probably get her to bed.”

“She’s fine. Come on I got some Jack.” I moved the blanket making him smirk as we made it up to his room. We down on the floor leaning against his bed. He leaned over, grabbing the bottle before taking a shot.

“So, how’s your trip so far?”

“It’s good, I needed a little getaway. Your family is pretty great too.”

“Yea a little too much sometimes especially the older sisters but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

“I know what you mean. I have an older brother and sister.”

“So, the baby?” I nodded.

“Yea, it has its pros and cons.”

“What’s your story?”

“Um.” He handed me the bottle and I took a shot. I wanted to tell him but a piece of me is scared too.

“Sorry, you don’t have to tell me.”

“It’s just that I’ve had it rough the last couple of weeks.”

“Whatever happened just know you're amazing.”

“You don’t even know me,” I smirked making him smile.

“You just have that vibe about you. I can tell you been through something, but you don’t let it define you.”

“Thank you, I appreciate that.” He smiled taking the bottle from me taking a shot.

“Besides Caitlyn, I’m the only one out of the six that don’t have kids and a spouse. I know my parents are trying not to pressure me but it’s hard to find the right one.”

“I know what you mean. You think you found the person that might be the one then they go and change everything.”

“You’ll find that girl.” I smiled taking another shot.

“I hope so.”

“Lucas,” I whispered not knowing what I wanted to say. He leaned over pressing his lips to mine making everything disappear. Everything that happened didn’t matter, it was just him and me. He pulled away looking at me worried.

“Are you...” I didn’t let him finish asking if I was okay, I pressed my lips back to his.
