Chapter 15

“Sophia careful with her.” I heard Colin hiss. She ran out of the room while I walked into the room where Colin was with Ellie.

“What happened?"

“She was pulling on her.” He cradled Ellie in his arms.

“Babe, they are fine. Ellie’s not crying or anything, she’s okay.”

“She’s little. ”

“I know. You finish getting her ready I’m going to check on Soph.” He nodded and I went to Sophia’s room finding her crying.

“Oh, Sophia.” I walked over, pulling her into my arms hugging her.

“It’s okay, we’re not mad.”

“I didn’t hurt her.”

“I know baby, you just have to be careful. Right now she’s fragile, but you can still play with her.” She calmed down as I rubbed her back calming her down. I kissed her forehead and wiped her tears away.

“I love you, it's okay.”

“We still go?”

“Yes, now we need to change your shirt.” She pulled away from me and changed her shirt.

“Come here.” I brought her into her bathroom and brushed her hair before putting it up.

“Now you look like me.” She smiled as we looked at each other in the mirror.

“Come on, let’s go see how Colin is getting Ellie ready.” She nodded and held my hand as we went into the living room.

“How did I do?”

“Good, you’re learning.” I smiled as I kissed his cheek.

“Alright let’s go.”

“Hopefully Uncle Elliot will be there, we’re sure going to drive him crazy.” I smiled as Sophia, smiled at me. We pulled up to the fields and I got Sophia out while Colin got Ellie.

“Nana.” I let go of her hand she quickly went to my mom.

“Sure do look like your momma. Uncle Elliot is going to love that.”

“Mommy said that.” I smiled as I walked over and hugged her.

“I don’t know if Elliot is going to make it.”

“If he doesn’t, we will just have to take a picture.” I pulled away as Colin came over Ellie.

“She is so cute.”

“Let’s go sit down and you can hold her.” She nodded and went over to the seats where my dad was.

“Poppa.”

“There she is.” He looked at me and looked back at Sophia. Sophia looked a lot like me but she did have a hint of Rickey in her too.

“You sitting with poppa or you sitting with me.”

“Momma.” She came over to me and crawled into my lap.

“Look there’s Uncle Gavin.” I pointed and she smiled as she found her uncle. I kissed her cheek while she cheers him on.

“Sophia.” I heard Sydney so I let her down so she could go see her cousin.

“You brought the baby.” Sean smiled as she went over to see her niece.

“Where’s my brother?”

“He’s at work, he’s going to try and be here.” I frowned as she came over and sat next to me with Ellie, while my mom had Sutton.

“Hi, cutie.”

“Say hi Aunt Sean.”

“She’s looking more like Colin.”

“That’s what I said, but he still thinks she looks like me.” Sophia sat on my lap as we watched the game.

“Let me take your picture and send it to Elliot.” We posed and Sean took the picture of us.

“He’s sure going to love this.” I smiled, kissing McKenna’s cheek.

“I think someone wants her momma.” Ellie was crying so I reached for her and laid her against my chest.

“What’s a matter huh?”

“She just wanted cuddles with momma and sissy.” I kissed both my girl's forehead, holding them close while we watched the rest of the game. Gavin came over to us and we hugged before he rushed off.

“Alright time to go home.”

Colin took Ellie and put her in the car seat while I carried Sophia over to the car and buckled her in. I said goodbye to everyone and we finally went home.

(Rickey’s pov)

“So, how do you like having a little sister?” I asked Sophia.

“She cries a lot and I can’t play with her.” She sighed.

“She’s still brand new, in a couple of weeks you can play with her a little more.”

“Colin yells at me.”

“Why?”

“He thinks I hurt her. Daddy, I don’t hurt sissy.”

“I know princess. He’s just too overprotective.” She nodded and I pulled her into my arms hugging her.

“Are you going to have a baby?”

“No honey, you are it for me.”

“Cool.” I smiled kissing her cheek. She was it for me unless by some miracle I get a chance with McKenna again.

“So, what do you want to do today?”

“Um, can we go to the park?”

“Sure can, let’s get your jacket and go.” She ran over, grabbing her jacket and we headed off to the park. Of course the whole way there she sang along with every song that came on the radio. I got her out once we got there and she quickly went to play. I loved watching her play, she saw things so differently. I looked down at my phone to check the time then I heard crying so I looked up to see Sophia in tears.

“What happened?”

“I hit my head on the slide.”

“Let daddy kiss it.” I pulled her into my arms and kissed the spot where she hit her head.

“Better.” She nodded, but still held onto me.

“Are you ready to go?”

“Will you push me?” I nodded, carrying her over to the swings. I buckled her in her and started to push her.

“Higher daddy.”

“Pump Soph.” She pumped her legs and I let her go.

“I did it, daddy.”

“Sure did princess.” She stopped and I unbuckled her.

“Daddy, can we get DQ?”

“Yea, let’s go.” I took her hand and we got in the car and went to Dairy Queen. I ordered for us and went back home so we could eat.

“Am I staying here to sleep?”

“Not tonight, I have to work super early tomorrow.” She frowned as she picked up and ate it. There was a knock on the door and we just frowned at each other.

“Momma?”

“I don’t know.” I got up and she grabbed my hand as we walked over to the door.

“You’re not mommy.” Sophia frowned.

“I’m nana.”

“Not uh, you’re not nana.”

“What are you doing here?” I hissed at my mother.

“I came to see my son and granddaughter.” I pulled Sophia over to the couch and quickly called McKenna.

“Hello.”

“I need you to come over now.”

“Why?”

“My mother is here, I want you to get Soph.” I hissed through gritted teeth.

“On way.” We hung up and I turned to Sophia.

“Mommy is coming.” She nodded and looked at my mom curiously.

“Who are you?”

“I’m your daddy’s mommy.”

“Daddy, is mommy bringing Ellie?”

“Don’t know princess. What do you want from us?

“I want to get to know my son and granddaughter.” She smiled looking between the two of us.

“Yeah well, that’s not going to happen.”

“How come I never see you?” Sophia asked, looking very confused.

“Because I didn’t know about you?”

“Why?”

“Your daddy didn’t tell me.”

“Do not lie to her.” The door opened and McKenna quickly came in and made her way over to us.

“Mommy.” Sophia ran over jumping in her mom's arms.

“Hi, baby.”

“Where’s Ellie?”

“With Colin.”

"That's daddy's mom." She nodded holding Sophia closely.

“I know, can you do me a favor?”

“What?”

“Can you go into your room, until daddy and I come and gets you.” She nodded her head and ran over to her room.

“I don’t care who you think you are, but there is no way in hell you will get my daughter.” There's my girl.

“You haven’t seen me in seventeen years then you saw my daughter and her mother one time. How did you even know who she was or my daughter, she barely even looks like me.”

“Because I’ve been keeping tabs on you for years. I knew she was your daughter because I heard you talking about her and then I saw her.”

“So you have been stalking me.”

“You are my son.” I shook my head not wanting to believe what was going on.

“No, I was your son seventeen years ago. I didn’t understand then and I especially don’t understand now how you could do that.”

“It was what was best for you.”

“I was five, my mom was gone and my dad was a jack ass.” McKenna grabbed my hand helping me somewhat relax.

“You need to go.”

“This isn’t over.”

“I don’t want you in my life and I sure as hell don’t want you in my daughter’s life.”

(McKenna’s pov)

Rickey got up and started to pace while she left. I got up and wrapped my arms around him.

“I’m so sorry.” I could feel his whole body shake.

“You are nothing like her okay. Sophia loves you. Yes, you have made some mistakes, but you are a good dad. You have been amazing with her and helped me out these last couple of weeks.”

“There are so many questions, I just can’t.” He pulled away and sat down while I moved to sit next to him.

“You just need time to cope with everything. ”

“I don’t want her in my life.”

“She doesn’t have to be in your life, you are a grown man. She doesn’t get to know how amazing you are or our daughter.”

“You're right.” He sighed and just looked at me.

“Thank you for being here.”

“Of course, there is no way in hell am I going to miss a chance to yell at her.” We laughed and he pulled me into his arms.

“I’m glad we got to this point.”

“Me too.” I smiled as I pulled away.

“I’m going to check on Soph.”

“You should take her with you. I need to clear my head.”

“You sure?”

“Yea.” I nodded and went to Sophia from where she just playing.

“Baby, you ready to go.”

“But daddy?”

“He needs to clear his head for a little while, but you probably see him tomorrow okay.”

“Okay.” She got up and went to say goodbye to Rickey.

“Love you, daddy.”

“Love you too princess so much.”

“Hey, if you need anything let me know.” He nodded and Sophia came over to me so we could leave.

“Is daddy okay?”

“He’s a little upset right now, but he will be okay.” She nodded and we went back home. Colin and Ellie were on the couch curled up asleep, so Sophia and I went to chair curling up.

“Love you baby girl.”

“Love you, momma.”
