Chapter 18

“Hello,” I answered my phone.

“Is this McKenna?”

“Yes?” Panic filled me.

“You were listed as Mr. Price’s emergency contact. Your husband has been in an accident you need to come to the hospital. Right now he is in critical condition.”

I dropped my phone and quickly got my keys. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I got in my car and headed towards the hospital. Colin had to be okay, he needs to be okay. I needed him and our daughter needed him.

“I’m here to see Colin Price,” I yelled at the receptionist.

“Are you family?”

“Fiancé.” She nodded and did something on her computer.

“He’s in the ICU now, room three.” I nodded and made my way up there. All of a sudden doctors and nurses came rushing out with Colin on the bed.

“Colin,” I screamed and sobbed as I watched them take him.

“Miss.” A nurse helped me onto a chair where I just sobbed.

“Would you like me to call someone?”

“My mom.” I handed her my phone and I heard her call my mom. I’m sure they already called Colin’s mom, so I wouldn’t have to.

What seemed like hours, my mom finally showed up.

“McKenna.”

“Mommy.” I sobbed. She came over to me and quickly wrapped her arms around me.

“Honey, what happened?”

“I don’t even know, they said he was in the accident. They just took him to the ER. Mom he looks really bad.”

“He’s going to make it. It might have looked bad, but it doesn’t mean it’s that bad.”

“I’m scared.”

“I know.”

Carrie had finally shown up with her husband Jimmy.

“Do you know anything?”

“No.” She nodded and went to find a doctor. I looked up and saw my dad looking at me sadly.

“Daddy.” He came over to me, pulling me into his arms where I just sobbed.

“I got you.”

It felt like hours before the doctors finally came out. I shot up and my mom came up and held my hand. Carrie and Jim also came over, looking as nervous as I was. The doctor looked down and I knew Colin was gone.

“I’m so sorry we did everything we could.” I fell to the floor and sobbed. My mom dropped down, pulling me into her arms.

“He’s not going to see our daughter grow up.”

“He will he’s going to watching over you okay.”

“Can we see him?” His parents went in leaving me with my parents.

“What am I going to do?”

“We’re going to help you okay, we’re going to get you through this.”

“I want to see him.”

“I’ll take her.” My mom said and slowly brought me to where Colin was. Once we were in his room I launched myself on his chest where I sobbed.

“I need you.”

(Sophie’s pov)

It was heartbreaking watching her sob like that. The nurses came in and gave her a sedative. I followed them where they set her up in a room. Nathan came in pulling me into his arms.

“She’s going to be okay.”

“What about the girls?”

“They will be taken care of.”

“Why did this have to happen?”

“I don’t know.”

McKenna was finally released so we brought her home and she curled on her bed.

“Honey, do you want us to get the girls?”

“No.” She said weakly. I’m hoping she doesn’t push them away. They need her just as much as she needs them right now.

“Okay, do you want me to lay with you?”

“No, I just want to be alone.” I kissed the back of her head and went into the living room where Nathan was.

“She doesn’t want to see them.”

“Then we should get some of their things.”

“They need her Nathan.”

“I know, but she needs some time.” I sighed and we got some of the girl’s things heading back to our house. The girls were staying with Elliot and Sean, so they brought them over when we got there.

“Nana where is mommy?” I sighed, reaching for Sophia pulling her into my arms.

“Mommy is at your house.”

“She come here?”

“No sweetie, mommy is going to stay home for a while. You and sissy will be staying with nana and poppa for a little while.”

“Why?” She frowned.

“Colin was in a really bad accident. Mommy is upset and just wants to be alone.”

“I want to see her.”

“I know, but she doesn’t want you to see her like that.” She frowned and jumped down to play with Sydney.

“How is she?” Sean asked.

“They had to sedate her last night. She’s pretty upset and depressed. Right now she just wants to be alone.”

“She doesn’t want to see them.”

“No, I don’t think she can look at Ellie right now.”

“I want to go see her, but I don’t want to bother her.”

“I would wait a little bit.”

(Rickey’s pov)

“Both of their phones are going straight to voicemail.”

“That’s weird. Maybe you should try calling her mom.” I nodded and text Sophie asking if she heard anything.

“I’m going to go over.”

“Should I go?” Cammie asked.

“Sophie wants to talk to me, so you can stay here.” She nodded and I pecked her lips before going over to Sophie’s.

“Daddy.” Sophia came running over jumping in my arms.

“Hey princess, is mommy here?”

“No, she’s at home.” I frowned before looking at Sophie.

“Soph, can I talk to your daddy for a minute.” She nodded. I let her down and went to the kitchen where Sophie was waiting.

“I know we had our problems in the past, but we’re going to need your help. Last night Colin was killed by a drunk driver. McKenna had to be sedated. She is home now and is taking this pretty hard. Right now she doesn’t want to see the girls. I’m worried she is going to push them away.”

“I’m so sorry. If you need help just let me know, even with Ellie. I think I’m going to check on her then I will take Soph for the night.”

“Just be careful.” I nodded and went to go to see Sophia.

“You are going to be staying with me tonight.” I smiled, seeing her heart shatter.

“I want to see mommy.”

“I know, I’m going to see her and I will tell her how much you love her.”

“I want to go?”

“Not now, I think Poppa needs you to watch a game with him.” She frowned and looked at Nathan. I hated lying to her, but I didn’t know what to say to her just yet.

“Love you, princess, I will see you soon.”

“Love you, daddy.” I kissed her forehead and went over to McKenna’s.

I knocked softly and got no answer so I went around back where the door was unlocked. The house looked fine, so she didn’t break anything yet. I went into the room finding her just staring at the wall then she looked at me.

“What are you doing here?” She groaned.

“Came to check on you.”

“I’m fine.” I nodded.

“I know you are.” She rolled over and I went and sat by her feet.

“We don’t have to talk or anything, just know that I am here.”

“Will you lay with me?” I nodded and crawled up next to her, but didn’t touch her. Surprisingly, she curled up to my side wrapping her arms around me.

“I just don’t understand why this had to happen?”

“I don’t know. Just some stupid kid making a terrible decision, not knowing what’s going to happen.”

“Ellie is never going to know her daddy. He didn’t even get the chance to hear her call him daddy.” She cried.

“But she will know who her daddy was. We can tell her all the amazing stories about her daddy and she will love that.”

“Everything bad happens to me.”

“You need to stop focusing on the bad. You still have two amazing daughters that love you.” I felt her nod her head and saw the tears in her eyes. I pulled her closer and just let her cry it out. All she needs right now is someone to hold her and just listen. I kissed her forehead and just held onto her tight.

“I’m here,” I whispered against her forehead as I ran my fingers through her hair. Slowly she had fallen asleep in my arms.
