Chapter 2

“Wash your hands.” We went into the kitchen and we washed our hands. I got the ketchup and ranch out before sitting next to her.

“Why won’t you let Nana or Aunt Sean tuck you in?”

“I want you.”

“Mommy has a date though.”

“I go.” She looked up at me and smiled.

“No baby, you’re too little.”

“You leave me.”

“Sophia, I would never leave you okay. I love you so much, you are my whole world.”

The doorbell went off and I sighed going over to the door with Sophia holding my hand. I was shocked to see Rickey on the other side of the door.

“Daddy.”

“What are you doing here?” I hissed.

“You said she wanted to see me and here I am.”

“Honey, go finish eating.” She grabbed his hand and brought him to the kitchen where she finished eating.

“What did you do today?” He asked her.

“Went to Aunt Sean’s and play with Sydney.”

“Sounds like fun.”

“Daddy, will you stay tonight?” He looked at me and I mouthed no.

“I can’t, this is mommy’s house.”

“Please.”

“Ask your mom.” I glared at him before looking at Sophia.

“Mommy, he stays?”

“Baby he can’t stay, but he can tuck you in.”

“Okay!” I hated this, she was my daughter, not his. She loved him and I was happy for her, but I hate it. I know that’s selfish but I’m her mother and I’m not going to be there for her.

We finished eating and went into the living room to watch a movie. She curled up with him, leaving me a little hurt. After this long day, I just wanted to cuddle her. My mom texted me, saying that they weren’t coming home tonight, gross.

“She fell asleep.”

“Let’s get her upstairs.” He carried her upstairs and laid her on her bed, while I grabbed her jammies to change her.

“Mommy.”

“What baby?”

“I have to pee.”

“Go ahead.” I let her go and she went to the bathroom before coming back jumping on the bed.

“Good night baby girl, love you.”

“Love you, daddy.” He kissed her forehead and she smiled at him.

“Alright munchkin, I will see you in the morning. I love you.”

“Love you, mommy.” I kissed her and she turned over to go to sleep. I watched her for a minute then headed downstairs with Rickey.

“You’re great with her.” He smiled at me.

“Thanks, she’s my best friend. Thank you for coming over to spend time with her.”

“I would like to spend more time with her.”

“Like I said in the hospital you need to prove it.”

“How about you let me take her Friday night?”

“No, I don’t trust you. Let’s take baby steps here. If you want to spend time with her text me and if we’re free you can. For now, I have to be there. She still barely knows you and I’m just not comfortable leaving you with her alone.”

“What do you think I would hurt her?” I shook my head.

“No, I don’t think you’re ready to be on your own with her.”

“It’s not that hard.”

“Yes it is, it’s a lot harder than you think.”

“I will be there for her, and I will get you to change your mind about us.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep. As for us, we share a daughter that is it.” He moved closer and I backed up, of course hitting the wall.

“Rickey.” He cupped my face, pressing his lips to mine. I didn’t kiss back right away, but I caved kissing him back. I haven’t been kissed in a long time and it felt good. It took me a minute to realize what I was doing, so I quickly pushed him away.

“You need to leave.”

“Oh come on.”

“No, get out you already done enough to me. I will not let you use me again.”

“I didn’t use you.”

“Bullshit. You had sex with me, left right after, and ran when you found out I was pregnant.”

“It was a mistake.” He sighed looking away. There was no way I was going to believe him.

“Get out.” I pushed him and we went over to the door to leave. Of course, he smirked at me before leaving. I cleaned up before going upstairs to get ready for bed. As soon as I crawled into bed the tears started to flow. Why did I have to be so stupid?

“Mommy.” She crawled on the bed and into my arms.

“What’s wrong?”

“Just a bad day, I needed your hugs to make it all better.”

“I love you, mommy.”

“I love you too baby so much.” She wiped the tears away and gave me kisses.

“It’s okay momma.”

“You're right.” I kissed her forehead curling up with her before we both fell asleep.

I woke up to her still sleeping curled up against my chest. I sighed and kissed her forehead, holding her close to me. She stirred and opened her eyes looking at me.

“Good morning baby.”

“Morning. All better?”

“Yea, all better.”

“Can daddy come over today?”

“Mommy and daddy have school today, so I will ask him later okay.”

“Okay.”

“Let’s go get some breakfast.” I kissed her cheek and we headed downstairs and I made her breakfast.

“Mommy, don’t have a bad day.”

“I’ll try baby.” I smiled at her handing her; her breakfast before sitting next to her. We finished eating and I cleaned up before we got in the shower together. My parents came home just in time so I could go to class.

“Love you see you later.”

“Love you.” I kissed her and headed off to school. I grabbed my bag and headed up to my class.

“McKenna.”

“Hey.” I smiled at Colin as he ran up to me so we could walk together.

“So did you think about it?”

“Yea.”

“So?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

“Yes really!” He pulled me into his arms hugging me. It felt so good to be in his arms, I didn’t want to leave. Sadly he pulled away and we went to class. I was looking forward to Friday, but I was a little nervous leaving Sophia.

“So, what are we doing on Friday?”

“Still haven’t figured it out yet, I figured you would say no.”

“Why?”

“You seem like you got a lot going on and you were having a bad day.”

“I was it got better than it worse.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay”

“Well, I hope your week gets better.”

“I think it will.“I smiled at him and we went into our class. After class Colin and I went to the library for a free period.

“I hate that class.”

“Me too, he’s such an ass.” I laughed as we sat down at the table getting our books out. I heard a noise so I looked up finding Rickey just staring at me. Once he realized I was looking at him he walked over to us.

“Go away.”

“We need to talk.”

“We’re studying.” I hissed.

“Fine, I guess we can talk here. About last night...” He smirked. I grabbed his hand bringing him away from Colin.

“What the hell do you want?” I gritted my teeth, glaring at him.

“I told you I wanted to try us.”

“And I said no.”

“You kissed me back.” I groaned.

“Don’t remind me, I’ve made another mistake. Sophia wants to see you again.”

“I work tonight.”

“Tomorrow?”

“Yea.”

“Okay, we only talk about her and that is it.”

“Come on McKenna, give me a chance. I can be better.”

“No.”

“It’s because of him.”

“What no, he’s just a friend.”

“He’s into you.”

“So what? Are you jealous?” I smirked.

“Why would I be? I already have you plus I have something he doesn’t.”

“What?”

“Our daughter.”

“You know I can have more kids that your not the dad of. Who knows you might have more kids out there.”

“No there’s only one and I know about her, she’s ours.”

“Whatever, I have to go.” I went back over to Colin sitting down.

“Sorry about that.”

“It’s okay, old boyfriend?”

“No, just a pain in the ass.”

“He likes you.”

“No, he’s just out to ruin my life as much as he can.” I sighed, thinking about Sophia.
