Chapter 23

I stood in the doorway watching as McKenna braced herself against the counter. She’s been so strong, but I can see she is reaching her breaking point. I walked over standing next to her.

“Do you know what today is?” I shook my head, watching as tears filled her eyes.

“Today I was supposed to be getting married. Right now, I should be at the church getting ready. Colin should be getting ready.”

“McKenna.”

“Rickey, I think you should go.” She looked at me shaking her head, tears streaming down her face.

“Is this really what you want?”

“Yes. I’m not ready to be with someone right now. What I need right now is to be a mom to my girls. Rickey, you have so amazing, but I just need space right now.”

“Okay but you know if you or the girls need anything I will be here.” She nodded as I pulled her into my arms.

“You would have looked so beautiful.”

“Please go.” I kissed her forehead before slowly pulling away from her. Walking out of the house I pulled up Faith's number and called her.

“Rickey Pierce what do I owe this pleasure.”

“It’s McKenna.”

“What’s wrong, is she okay?”

“Today was supposed to be the wedding day. She doesn’t want me to be there, so I think she needs you, girls, to be there.”

“You’re right. I’m going to get some stuff together then I will be with her.”

“Thank you.”

“Rickey, thank you for being there for her and the girls.”

“I would do anything for them. I should let you go though.”

(McKenna’s POV)

I groaned hearing someone knock on the door. I made sure Ellie was okay before I went over to see who it was.

“There’s my best friend.” Faith smiled.

“What are you doing here?”

“Came to spend the day with you.”

“Rickey called didn’t he.”

“He’s worried about you.”

“Come on, Ellie is playing in the living room.” We walked into the living room where Ellie was playing with her toys.

“Momma.”

“Come here.” She came over, her little arms reached up to me and I pulled her into my arms. She sighed curling up against me, getting herself situated.

“She’s so cute.”

“Yes, she is. She looks more like her daddy every day.” I sighed running my fingers through her hair. She rested her little hand against my breast as she looked up at me.

“Where’s Soph?”

“School. So, since when are you talking to Rickey?"

“Don’t sound so jealous. He’s worried about you and doesn’t want you to be alone, especially today.”

“First off I’m not jealous. Second I’m fine and third I’m not alone I have my daughters with me.”

“What happened with Rickey?”

“I told him I need space. I feel like things with him are moving too fast.”

“Something happened that I’m missing.”

“That night we got drunk, I ended up at his house. I begged him to have sex with me but he wouldn’t. He confessed that he has feelings for me.”

“Do you have feelings for him?”

“I’m pretty sure I always have. He's been so amazing not only with me but with both girls.”

“Being with him doesn’t mean you didn’t love Colin. He would want you to move on and be happy. He wants someone to take care of his daughter as he would.”

“I know but do you think it’s too soon?”

“I don’t. You’ve known Rickey, you guys share a daughter. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but he is good for you.” I nodded watching Ellie.

“I don’t know.”

“Look I’m not going to tell you how to feel but do not hold yourself back. If he’s good with you and the girls give it a chance. Do not miss out on being happy.”

“Thank you.”

“So tonight, we’re going out.” I turned my head and glared at her.

“Tonight was supposed to be one of the best nights of your life. I’m not going to let you sit at home and be upset. I’ll call Sean and Summer and we can go out.”

“I hate you.”

A few hours later

Walking into the bar the first person I see is Sean with my brother. Summer was also here with her boyfriend Dane. Summer was the first one to spot me. She smiled and quickly came over hugging me.

“It’s so good to see you.”

“You too.” I pulled away before Elliot quickly pulled me into his arms.

“How are you doing sis?”

“I’m okay.” I sighed taking in all his comfort.

“Let me see her.” Sean smiled opening her arms for me. I smiled wrapping my arms around her.

“You look hot tonight.”

“Thank you, so do you.”

“Look if you need anything tonight or just want to leave let me know okay.”

“This is why you’re the best.”

“Rickey is here too.” I looked over her shoulder and saw him talking to the guys. I’m not going to lie he looks really good tonight.

“I’m going to go talk to him.” I pulled away from her and went over to them.

“What’s up baby momma?” Josh smiled making Rickey turn towards me.

“Josh always good to see you. Anyways, Rickey, can we talk?”

“Yea let’s go outside.” I nodded taking his hand following him outside.

“Sorry about him.”

“It’s fine.”

“You look beautiful.” He smiled making me blush.

“Thank you. Look I just want to say I’m sorry about this morning.”

“It’s fine I understand you’re going to need your space once in a while.”

“Yes, but after everything you have done for me, you didn’t deserve that.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“Rickey I’m so scared.” He nodded taking my hands in his pulling me close.

“Talk to me.” Tears filled my eyes as I looked up at him.

“I’m scared we’re moving too fast and I shouldn’t be feeling this way. It’s been almost a year and I just.”

“Hey just breathe. I’ll back off or whatever is that you want okay.”

“That’s it I don’t want you to back off. I need you. I want this with you.” His features soften as he pressed his forehead to mine. My arms went around him, holding him close.

“I’m scared too okay. I’m scared I’m pushing you too hard. I’m scared I’m going to wake up one day and realize it was just a dream.”

“Rickey.” I cried.

“I know our past is not that great, but things are different. I want this with you. I want to be the person you deserve and be the father Sophia and Ellie needs. Sophia will be my daughter no matter what. After spending all this time with Ellie, I can’t imagine my life without her either.” His hands moved up to cup my cheeks.

“McKenna, I love you.”

“Kiss me.” He quickly pressed his lips to mine. We were both putting everything into the kiss. Slowly he pulled away pressing his forehead back to mine.

“You don’t have to say it back.”

“I love you,” I said honestly.

“What are you two doing out here. Tonight, we were supposed to be having a good time.” Faith said breaking us apart.

“She’s right, let’s go have fun.” He smiled, pecking my lips.

“You need to be cleaned up.” Faith grabbed my hand taking me to the bathroom. Sean, of course, was following behind us.

“What was going on out there?”

“We were talking. I told him I love him.” I sighed wiping the makeup from my eyes.

“Do you?” Sean asked.

“As crazy as it is, I do. He’s not only there for me and our daughter but he is there for Ellie.”

“Well, I’m happy for you.” Sean smiled.

“Thank you.” They hugged me before we went back to the guys. Rickey and his buddies moved over to our table. I walked over wrapping my arms around his waist. He smiled leaning down kissing me.

“A round of shots.”

Waking up I felt arms tight around me. I sighed snuggling closer into his comfort and warmth. His arms tightened around me, making me look up at him. He smiled opening his eyes looking at me.

“I’ll never get used to waking up to you in my arms.”

“Me either.” I smiled leaning up to press my lips to his. He pulled away pressing his forehead to mine sighing.

“So, you have three options.”

“What are those?”

“We have a repeat of last night. I make us breakfast in bed or we get the girls and take them out.”

“I think I will take option one and three,” I smirked.

“Gosh, I love you.” He smiled rolling on top of me. I smiled running my hands down his sides making him groan.

He threw my clothes at me making me groan.

“Come on, let’s get the girls and take them out.” This is what I needed, time with my two girls and my boyfriend as a family.
