“Hey I need to talk to you for a minute,” I told Rickey.
“What?” He hissed.
“Drop the attitude.” I frowned at him and he followed me into the den.
“I got an apartment, so Sophia and I will be moving.”
“What about that boyfriend of yours?”
“He is not moving in with us, it’s just not the right time for that.”
“He can’t stay there.”
“Excuse me, that is not any of your business.”
“It is when my daughter is involved.”
“I would never let her around him if I knew he was bad news. Colin loves her and is so amazing with her. ”
“Don’t.” I sighed.
“What, sooner or later he’s going to be moving in.”
“Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. He is not going to replace you as her dad, you are her daddy. I’m not taking her away from you, I would never do that.”
“Mommy, daddy.” I looked over and saw Sophia frowning at us.
“Are you fighting?”
“No honey, we were just talking.” Rickey sighed getting down to her level.
“Come on princess, one more episode then daddy has to get going.”
“Yes, I have to get to work.” She frowned and they went back into the living room to watch a show. I watched as she curled up to him and sighed. He was doing a little better with her, but I still didn’t trust him.
“So you and mommy are going to move, are you excited?”
“Yea, but I miss nana and poppa.”
“I’m sure your mommy will bring you here all the time, so it will be like you never left.”
“It will be just fine.” I know he probably didn’t agree on us moving, but it what’s best for all of us. Yes, I would love for Colin to move in with us, but we’re just not ready for that yet.
“Alright baby girl, it’s time for daddy to go.”
“I will see you soon okay.”
“Promise, now give me hugs.” She gave him his hugs and kisses then followed him over to the door.
“Love you baby girl.”
“Love you, daddy.” I heard the door close then she came running into my arms.
“I don’t like when he leaves.”
“I know honey, but he has his own house.”
“But Colin stayed with us.”
“That was one time.”
“How come daddy can’t stay one night?”
“Because Colin wouldn’t like it very much if he was staying with me.”
“But he stays in my room.”
“Baby, daddy is way too tall to be sharing a bed with you. Maybe one day, you can go stay at daddy’s house.”
“No, just you and daddy.”
“Because honey. You know Colin is mommy’s boyfriend and he wouldn’t like for me to be staying with daddy.” She frowned and I just ran my fingers through her hair.
“Come on baby, we have to go get finishing up packing.” She groaned and I just laughed carrying her up to her room.
“Daddy!” I let her hand go and she went running in his arms.
“Hey, baby girl.” He smiled.
“You and daddy are going to walk around and ride some rides for a little bit.”
“What about you?”
“I’m going to be with Colin, so it’s just going to be you and daddy. We will see you in a little bit.” She frowned nodding her head while I kissed him on the cheek. I moved so I could whisper in Rickey’s ear.
“Lose my daughter and I will kill you.”
“Everything will be fine. We will see you in a little bit.”
“Remember hold daddy’s hand.”
“Okay, momma.” I waved at her as Rickey took her and they went walking around.
“Come on let’s go get a funnel cake.” I nodded, wrapping my arms around his waist, as we went to the stand. We got the funnel cake and went to walk around stopping at a game booth.
“What you don’t think I can?” He smirked.
“Let’s see.” He paid and started shooting baskets.
“And you thought I couldn’t.” He smirked.
“I never said that.” He made his shots then turned to me.
“What do you want?“
“The little turtle for Soph.” The guy handed me the turtle and went back to walking around.
“Daddy, I want to go ride that ride.” She tugged on my hand.
“In a minute.”
“Daddy.” Sophia tugged on my hand again.
“Did she just call you daddy?” Sarah asked.
“Yea, she is my daughter her name is Sophia.”
“Where’s her mom?”
“Around here somewhere with her boyfriend.” I turned around and she was gone.
“Shit, Sophia,” I called and I couldn’t see her anywhere.
“Her mom is going to kill me.”
“We will find her.” I looked around trying to call her name but nothing. McKenna was so going to kill me. She is never going to let me take Sophia again.
“Sophia.” I just need to find her before McKenna finds her.
“How do you think they're doing?”
“I’m sure they are going just fine.”
“What’s your mommy’s name?” I heard a woman say.
“McKenna.” I heard the sound of my name and there was my daughter with some woman crying.
“What’s your daddy’s name?”
“Sophia,” I yelled.
“Mommy.” She was sobbing as she came running into my arms.
“Mommy’s here, it's okay.”
“Thank you so much,” I told the woman.
“She was just wondering around here looking lost.”
“Her dad is supposed to be with her.” I gritted through my teeth holding her close.
“Come on baby, let’s go home. Thank you for watching her.”
“Of course.” I smiled at the woman and held onto Sophia tighter.
“Sophia.” I heard Rickey yell then he spotted us.
“McKenna.” He gasped.
“Get away from me.” I hissed. I wanted to scream at him but this was not the time or place. Colin wrapped his arm around me as we walked out of the fair to our car.
“Mommy.” She cried.
“We’re going home, baby.”
“McKenna.” I shut the door and turned towards Rickey.
“One chance and you blew it. She’s three years old, someone could have taken her. How could you be so stupid?”
“I turned away for a second.” I shook my head pushing him away.
“I don’t care. You should have been holding her hand or holding her. Whatever you were doing was not as important as my daughter.”
“I’m sorry.” He sighed, looking broken.
“Come on, let’s get her home.” I nodded towards Colin and got in the back with her.
“It’s okay, I’m not mad at you,” I told her.
“I’m here baby. You’re not leaving my side.” I kissed her cheek and brushed the hair off her forehead. We pulled up to the apartment and I carried her into the apartment. We sat on the couch and Colin pulled us into his arms.
“Want to tell me what happened?”
“I wanted to ride a ride and I told daddy. A girl came up and daddy started talking to her, I told him I was going over there.”
“You know you’re not allowed to go anywhere alone. You were supposed to hold daddy’s hand.”
“I sorry, I just wanted to ride.”
“I know baby, next time make sure daddy is listening to you.”
“I sorry momma.”
“I know baby.”
“Sophia, mommy and I won you a little turtle,” Colin said making her smile.
“Yea, he’s right over there.” She pulled away and went to go pick it up giving it a big hug.
“I’m hungry mommy.”
“Want some grilled cheese?” She nodded and I pulled away going over the kitchen. Colin came in after setting up her show and wrapping his arms around me.
“I need you to stay tonight, or I’m going to go over there and kill him.”
“Yes, and I would feel so much better.”
“Okay, I’m going to head back to my place and get clothes after this.”
I turned my head pressing my lips to his before going back to making dinner. Sophia was safe, she is here just in the other room with Colin. I told myself to calm myself down. I was so mad at him for not paying attention to her, some girl was more important. Sophia is still really little. She needs to be watched at all times.
“Alright come get your food,” I yelled and they both came in. Sophia took her plate and juice while we carried the rest.
“Mommy, when we going to see nana and poppa?”
“Tomorrow, Gavin, Elliot, Sean, Sydney, and Sutton will be there.”
“Hey once you’re down, it’s bath time.”
“But I want to watch my show with you guys.”
“You can, it won’t take that long.”
We finished eating while Colin left to grab his things.
“Are you mad at daddy?”
“Yea honey I’m mad at daddy. Mommy just needs some time to calm down before I can talk to daddy. ”
“I still get to see him?”
“Yea baby, you will still get to see him.” She nodded and I finished washing her up. Once she was done she went and put on her jammies while I cleaned up in the bathroom.
“Soph, come here so I can brush your hair and you can brush your teeth.” She came running in and sat on my lap so I could brush her hair.
“Colin still here?”
“Yea, he is still here.” I smiled kissing her cheek, she did like him. Once she was done we went back into the living room where Colin was waiting. I walked over and curled into his side and he wrapped his arms around me. We watched her shows for a little while then went into my room. I laid Sophia down in the middle of us and she stirred a little bit.
“Goodnight baby girl, I love you.” I kissed her forehead, wrapping my arms around her.
“She is just fine.”
“I know, thank you for staying.”
“Of course, this my favorite place to be.”
“Me too.” He leaned over her and kissed me before we all went to sleep.
