Chapter 3

“I love you.” He says, brushing a strand of my long brown hair back behind my ear.

“I love you too. More than you can even think possible.” I answer him, tracing my hands up his strong arms and to his face.

“If we’re caught…” He starts. Putting a finger to his lips lightly, I interrupt him from his thoughts.

“Don’t think about that right now.” I whisper in his ear softly, making him shiver slowly.

“At one point we’ll have to Caroline.” He finishes, wrapping his arms around my waist.

“I know.” I smile sadly.

He had no idea what I had done.

Slowly, I wake up to the bright sun streaming in through the round dorm windows. What the hell was that? That wasn’t my regular dream that I’d had for the past 3 years, ever since starting at the Academy. And besides, it had seemed too real to have even been a dream.

“Hey, Mckenzie.” I look around to Annie standing in the door, her blonde hair almost platinum, and blinding me as I look at her.

“What?” I ask, still shivering from the electric touch the dream had left me with. I was sure I’d felt it before.

“We’re going to miss breakfast.” Annie points at her watch hurriedly. Jumping out of bed, and throwing on my regular outfit, a mustard yellow crop top and jeans, I follow Annie out the door and to the cafeteria.

“So, are you ok?” Annie asks me, as we walk down the long hallway, I don’t know why but the Academy reminded me of Hogwarts.

“Huh?” I ask, in some sort of trance, as I continue to replay my dream over and over again in my mind.

“You ok?” Annie repeats, looking at me curiously. Our footfalls clap down hard on the oak floor, and echo’s all throughout the hall, making me feel small again.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I tell her quickly, too distracted for a long pep talk.

“Ok.” Annie says, relieved. “Oh, I know where Liam was yesterday.” She tells me, stopping dead in her tracks.

“What?” I urge her, stopping as well.

“Apparently yesterday, Collin Hadbury and a Government Official got into a fight over something. Probably a dumb thing.” She adds, taking a deep breath and starting again. “ And when Liam tried to break up the fight, he was hurt pretty badly.” She explains, her face falling with each word.

“Oh my god!” I whisper. Liam was hurt because of Collin. And to think, yesterday I actually felt sorry for the guy.

“He’s fine though, just recovering.” Annie tells me quickly.

“Good.” I nod. “He’s a strong guy.” I say, as we begin walking again.

“Yeah.” She admits.

“Do you think that he could’ve been your match?” I ask her suddenly. Watching as her face scrunches up in thought.

“Maybe. I’d rather not think about it.” She sighs, defeated.

“Yeah, sorry.” I say, picking up the pace. The bell was going to ring in 5 minutes!

“What about you? Still no one in mind for your match?” She asks smugly, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.

“No.” I lie.

Because I was starting to think that my dream, was actually a memory...

"Ugghh! We missed it." Annie groans, her stomach grumbling in complaint as the door's to the cafeteria close.

"Don't worry. Lunch is only 3 short periods away." I try to comfort her, as we both start towards first period class.

"Yeah, but that's so long." Annie whines, looking at her stomach angrily. "I don't think I can make it."

"Hey Annie..." I start, gesturing at a figure approaching us.

"Well what do you want me to do?" She asks me, taking my arm as the person steps forward and out of the darkness. My first thought is, "He's hot." Which I immediately scold myself for. But I can't help it. With his jet black hair and daring smile it would be impossible not to think so.

"Hi." He starts, and I immediately recognize his voice. I knew him!

"Hey." I respond, shrugging Annie's hand off my arm, and staring up into his deep blue eyes.

"Sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to ask you something." He continues swiftly.

"Ok, shoot." I smile, blushing as he does the same.

"When does first period start? I don't have the bell schedule memorized." He explains.

"In 2 minutes." Annie says dreamily, clearly in the same trance as me.

"Well ok then. Thank you ladies." Hot guy say's, nodding to us politely, like in old movies, and rejoining his friends.

"Do you know that guy?" Annie asks me, fanning her face with her hands, as she goes bright red.

"I don't have any classes with him if that's what you mean." I tell her. "You?" I ask, watching her face go even redder, as she observes hot guy talking to his friends.

"Nope." She sighs. "But I wish."

And that's when I remember everything...
