"Where are you going?" Alex asked as he flopped down into my bed.
"I am going to visit aunt Stella today" I said as I untied my tie and threw it into the drawer.
"But why today"? he asked looking confused.
"That's because I haven't visited her since two months and both David and Jen are out of country, she must be alone in her house."
"Will you come with me?" I asked as I put on my shoes.
"No, I can't. Today is my exhibition" He said crossing his arms across his chest and narrowed his eyes at me.
"Chill! I do remember about your exhibition today. I will just go and pay her a visit and then I will come directly to your gallery."
"Okay. Don't be late and tell aunt Stella that I will come soon to visit her" he said I nodded as I exited the room.
"No., I'll drive today" I said to the driver who stood next to the car. He nodded and obliged and took a step aside handing me over the keys.
I got into my car and put my seat belts on before driving off to her house. Aunt Stella was my father's elder sister and she lived with her son David Browne and her daughter-in-law Jennifer Browne in Primrose Palace which was among the top ten luxurious apartment building in Britain. Her husband was a hotelier and after his death she lived with her son and daughter-in-law in their apartment.
After twenty minutes of driving, I reached her apartment building and I parked mine car in front of her building thinking that it will be better to leave the car there because I needed to reach Alex exhibition as soon as I was done visiting aunt Stella.
After parking, I made my way into the building I saw the elevators doors sliding close but I sped up my pace and kept a hand between the doors stopping it from closing.
The door slide open and I saw a women crunching down on her knees picking up some things from the lift ground. I saw the button to the floor which I were to go already pressed so, I stuffed my hands into my pockets and waited the elevator to take me to the destined floor. The door slid closed and the lady stood up on her feet and she moved towards the side making a comfortable distance between us. Half way in our way to our destined floor, the elevator trembled and I lost my balance when the light went off. I leaned against the wall from saving myself from tumbling down.
"What the bloody hell?" I cursed under my breath.
Never in my life had I imagined that I would meet that woman back in that train again ever in my life. I don't know why but whenever I met her I would always lose my senses and I didn't like it particularly.
" What are you doing here?" she asked and I raised my eyebrow saying " I could ask the same thing. What are you doing here?"
I guess she didn't like my tone because she said " "Well mind your tone and to your question, I live here. This is mine apartment building" she gritted out.
"You? You mean to say you live here?" I asked in astonishment.
"Live here?" I thought.
"How can she afford to live here? Maybe she is a cook or something in someone's house" I thought.
"Nevermind, I came here to visit someone" I told her when I saw her not getting it.
As I had expected we had an argument. She has the guts to tell me right on my face that "Its great to know that you were late. You deserved that for not knowing courtesy. A man who doesn't know how to use his mouth while talking to a woman is not a man with discipline and hence he is considered as ugly not attractive."
How dare she? No body ever talked to me like that. Ever. Who does she think she is? I only told her the truth. It was true that whenever I met her something bad definitely happened with me. Like last time, I met her in a condition which never happened with me. She is live and walking bad luck for me. And it was good for me if I stayed away from her.
Finally, we were out. I would only pray the lords that our path should never cross each other because I don't know about her but I have started to hate her without even knowing her name. It's hate at first sight.
So, after getting out of that damn lift, I ignored her as if she were some plague. It was better to ignore each other and remain stranger to each other for our own good. And it was my own wish to ignore her.
I took the stairs and reached aunt Stella's apartment floor.
I pressed on the door bell waiting for her to open the door. I pressed on the door bell again when no one opened the door after five minutes. I tried knocking on the door. I stood there confused about she wasn't responding.
"Maybe she isn't home" I thought and turned around to live but I heard something.
I heard something crushing inside her apartment.
"Aunt Stella?" I called knocking on the door.
"Aunt Stella are you inside? It's me Ethan. Open the door" I said banging on the door.
I tried to turned the knob of the door and surprisingly it wasn't locked.
"I'm coming in" I said and slowly opened the door and then I saw her lying on the ground with her arms and legs moving in a repetitive movement she looked rigid, clenching her teeth, jerking in awkward position.
I knew that she had dementia but I had never witnessed all these happening to her. She was scaring me and I felt helpless thinking what to do because I had no idea about how to deal with such a person.
"Where is Nora?" I thought looking around. Nora was the maid who was supposed to take care of her while David and Jen were away on their trip.
"Nora!" I yelled calling for her.
"Nora" I called again and saw the petite woman running out from the other part of the room.
"Madam!" she yelled and crunched down before her and took the cushion from the sofa and kept it under her head.
Aunt Stella continued shaking on her position for some minutes until she finally relaxed and soon stopped laying their motionless.
"What were you doing? You were supposed to look after her" I yelled at the maid and she lowered her head down looking nervous.
"I'm sorry sir. I was tired and I was just taking a nap but this happened. It's all my fault. Forgive me Sir!" she said in a verge of tear.
"Make sure you don't do it again" I said and lifted aunt into my arms and took her into her bedroom where I lay her on her bed and covered her using the quilt.
"I am staying here for the night" I told the maid and she nodded going out of the room.
My phone rang and I saw the caller ID to find 'Alex' displaying on it.
"I knew it that you wouldn't come. You never come to my exh-" I cut him off "Aunt had a fit."
"What? How is she now? Where are you?" he asked sounding concerned.
"I'm still in her house. She is better and is sleeping now" I said and took a seat beside her sleeping form.
"Okay! Stay there with her. I will try to get there as soon as possible bu-"
"No! its okay. You don't need to rush. Its an important day for you today. I'm sorry that I am not there with you today."
"It's okay bro! I will come tomorrow in the morning. Yeah?" he asked and I hummed in response.
"Make sure to call Jen and David about this. I'm hanging up eh?" he said and after saying our goodbyes we hung up on each other.
"See? This is what I was talking about. Every time I meet her something weird definitely happens with me" I muttered to myself and walked out of aunt's room towards the other room.
