we're both broken,

His car was parked in the drive.

She has been knocking on the door for the past five minutes since she didn't have a key, but no one answered the door. Not even the maid who was supposed to come around and help with the cleaning today.

Dread filled her and worry clouded her senses as she thought of the many possibilities of why he wouldn't open the door. Of course, the simplest one of all was that he wasn't home; but she could clearly see that the lights were turned on in the living room. There were many other possibilities; perhaps he was in the bathroom, or in the garden, or maybe he even had his headphones in so he couldn't hear the doorbell.

She had spent months upon months hating him, not knowing what a good thing she had. If only she had pushed through all the hate and confusion to realise that he was only trying to help her.

But it was too late now. She couldn't keep dwelling in the past, not if she wanted a future with him.

Another five minutes past...and then another ten. Still, the door wouldn't open. Not even when she banged on the door repeatedly or when she screamed out his name. She didn't even flinch when the old lady next door told her to shut up.

She just brushed away the tears and carried on hoping that he would take her back. That he still loved her.

Frustrated and anxious beyond belief, she knocked on the door one more time and when it didn't open after a minute, she walked away.
