because i love him.

Beautiful, he thought as he looked at her, rubbing the sleep away from his eyes.

She was sleeping next to him, her arms draped over his check and abdomen, her legs entwined with his and her head nuzzled into the crook of his neck. Her soft breath fanned over his neck as she slept, the warmth of it sending tingles down his body.

He brought his hand up and cupped her face, gently stroking her cheek. He turned his body so that they both now had their heads resting on the same pillow, their faces directly in front of each other. He pulled her closer to him as he wrapped his other arm around her waist.

He watched her sleep for a few minutes, before the slow trail of his fingers down the side of her face woke her up.

Once she had rubbed the sleep from her eyes, her eyes focused on him and she remembered everything that had happened that day. Sniffling quietly as the tears ran down her face, she launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck burying her face in his chest, tears streaming down her face. She wet his chest with his tears, but he didn't care, and he most definitely didn't stop her.

He was clearly dreaming, but that didn't stop him from wrapping his arms around her and burying his face in her hair, inhaling her in. his arms wound tighter around her the longer he held her, refusing to let her go. He had been granted a taste of what forever with her would be like, and now he refused to give it up.

She was real, and she was with him. Hugging him, kissing him, crying for him...holding him just as he was holding her.

"I'm so sorry." She apologised as she looked up at him, her arms still wound tightly around her neck. There was no way that she was going to let go of him now. "I'm so sorry for everything." She sobbed with the fear that he would push her away.

If only she knew.

Shedding a tear of his own, he grabbed her chin and tilted her face upwards so that he could kiss away her tears, caressing every single crevice of her face. "You have nothing to apologise for, my love."

"But-" she began, a slight hiccup in her voice.

He cut her off with a chaste kiss to the lips. "You're here now and that's all that matters."

"I love you," she whispered, too shy to look at him even though he was pretty much on top of her.

In response, his heart beat harder and his arms wound tighter around her, as if he feared that she would get up and leave any minute now. "I love you more," he whispered into her ear, his soft breath tickling the side of her neck as he placed soft, wet kisses along the length of it. "I love you so much, my love." He cried into her neck, his tears rolling down his face and landing on the collar of her neck. "I won't let you leave. This time I'm going to fight for you, for us." He promised her, looking her square in the eye as he brought her hand up and placed a lingering, hard kiss against her knuckles. "I'm not letting you get away from me this time."

Pulling his head up and away from her neck so that she could see him, she brought his lips down to hers. "Never leave me." She demanded, her lips brushing against his as she breathed out the words.

"Never." He promised her with a kiss, determined to consolidate their new beginning the way a husband and wife do.
