The Eleventh Chapter

I walk into our room, a lump in my throat. I almost drop the tray when I walk in.

She isn't here.

The bathroom light is on. I smile and sit in the middle of the bed. The blankets are already fixed. When she comes back in, she's perfect. She's wearing her training outfit. Tight black shirt and short shorts. Her hair is in a ponytail. She smiles and puts a hand over her mouth.

"You remembered," she comes to the side of the bed.

"Of course. Hopefully, this makes our situation seem a little bit less... crappy," I get up.

"Where are you going?"

"Nowhere." I set the tray on the side table. Grabbing her hand, I pick her up and put her on the bed. I hand her the tray and sit next to her with my arm around her.

"I'm guessing Ty didn't make this."

"No. He was unconscious the whole time."

"Why?"

"You know how I said that there are some memories I'd rather not unlock?"

"Yeah."

"He brought that up." Me knowing I held Valeria's arms while Peter attacked her hurts.

"Are you ever going to tell me what happened?"

"I know you're ready to know, but I'm not ready to tell," and that's the truth.

"This is amazing," she praises.

"And so are you," I say when she has nothing in her mouth. She looks at me in confusion. I put my hand on her cheek and pull her close. The distance is closed by her. She touches her tongue to my bottom lip, and I let her in. She rests her hand on my chest. I pull her closer, my hand tracing her back. Her other hand presses to the back of my head. It forces me to get closer. I feel set free. She slips her finger just under my belt. I lean back, pushing her out. She pulls away slowly. I open my eyes, seeing her ear-to-ear smile.

"That was..." she starts, but can't seem to find the right words.

"The best birthday present ever?" I ask, hopeful.

"Definetely," she starts to eat again. I get up to leave.

"I'm gonna get something to eat. It smells good," I grab the door handle.

"You can't leave without me," she says. I drop my head against the door. She laughs.

"This is ridiculous."

"C'mon." She becons me with a piece of bacon. After she finishes, we decide to train.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Of course. I've been dressed for it for a while. Let's go. Oh. Are you gonna change?" she laughs.

"I guess." I walk to the closet. She's gonna wear something tight, so I should, too. I decide on a white shirt. When I'm done, I take her outside.

"What I want you to do is look for a pattern. For example, I step before I punch. Don't hit me to hard, but jab to the throat. It'll temporarily immobilize me," I explain.

Once again, I start the fight by snapping. She starts to come towards me. When she's close enough, I stab her neck with my middle, index, and ring fingers. She stumbles backwards and grabs her throat. She throws an uppercut, and before I know it, I'm on the ground. I look up and Valeria has her hand stuck out at me. I grab it and pull myself to a standing position. Without letting go, I pull her hand behind her towards her head. She looks up and cries out. I knee her in the back twice, then throw her across the yard. She turns and slowly pushes herself up so she can sit.

"What was that for?" she asks, rubbing her arm.

"You were close to beating me, but you're so nice that you decided to help me up. I grabbed your hand and pushed it towards your head, which temporarily paralyzed you. If you hadn't helped me, I would've fell unconscious. You can't help your enemy," I yell to her.

"You're not my enemy."

"You want me to throw you again?"

"No. No. Please don't," she puts her arm in front of her face. I walk up to her.

"Alright then. Let me help you up," I stick my hand out for her. I want to see if she can copy my move. Instead, she sweeps her leg under my feet. She stands and starts kicking me. Ty runs out and grabs her. I lay there, and he calms her down. He runs to me and kneels with his med kit. My vision blurs. Ty says something in Spanish. He stabs me with something. My vision returns to normal, and he stands me up. I'm not done with her yet.

"You gonna fight me or what?" I ask her. Ty's eyes widen, so I nod. He walks back to the porch. Valeria and I take our places on opposite sides of the yard.

"You sure?" she yells at me.

"Yeah. I'll give you first punch."

"Don't go easy on me. Act like Tritt."

"Why?"

"I'm not gonna fight Ty."

"True."

Despite what she said, I still go easy on her. I start moving forward, and she does the same. She turns and kicks me in the jaw. I stumble backwards, but regain balance. She jabs me in the throat. I gag and bump into the brick fence. I throw a punch, aiming for her temple. She catches my fist and copies my move. Good girl. She starts to walk forward, and because of the position I'm in, I have to follow. She bangs my head against the fence. That's gonna leave a scar. She knees me in the chest several times. Finally, she drops me. I fall onto the ground and push myself up to a sitting position against the fence. Blood is dripping down my face. She squats next to me.

"Never go easy on me again," she pinches my chin.

"Okay. You win. Help me up."

"Promise me you won't hold back," she pinches harder.

"I promise. Not let go of me. Gah!" after a moment, she lets go. She takes me inside to clean me up.
