Chapter 64

“Um, I’m glad you two are safe but could you help me?” Troy asked from the floor. Eloise pulled away and he groaned, his dick rock hard.

“I am so sorry Troy I completely forgot you were still on the floor,” Eloise said getting off his lap. Marcus took an extra moment for his dick to deflate before standing and striding over to Troy. What he saw worried him, the tourniquet Eloise had placed on his leg was soaked with blood.

“We need to get you to the hospital,” he said, bending down to help Troy off the ground.

“You’re telling me,” Troy huffed with a crooked smile.

“What do we do about William?” Eloise asked, pointing to the man still unconscious on the ground.

“Hang on,” he told her, propping Troy against the wall he strode over to where William lay. Pulling two zip ties out of his pocket he trapped his arms and legs together.

“I’ll have Peter come and take care of him. We need to get Troy to the hospital,” Marcus explained. He moved quickly to help Troy back out of the house. Stepping outside all the deputies were there with their cars putting the guards in the back. Cody walked over and took in Troy’s injury.

“William is knocked out on the floor. Marcus tied him up, but we need to get Troy to a hospital. He has lost a lot of blood,” Eloise told him. Marcus loved how she was staying strong even though she’d witnessed such horrors.

“We’ll get him. You’ll get there fastest shifted,” Cody replied. Marcus looked over at Eloise, he couldn’t take her and Troy.

“She can ride on me,” Peter volunteered.

“How are you going to get Troy to stay on?” she asked.

“We can strap him on,” Peter suggested, Troy groaned and collapsed against him. There was no more time to debate.

“Let’s hurry,” he said, passing Troy off on his brother he stripped and shifted quickly. Watching, Peter and Eloise hurried to get Troy onto his back. She picked up his clothing and tucked it into a bag Cody had handed her. Once Troy was secure, Peter stripped handing his clothing to Eloise and shifted into a large gray wolf. He had to keep his bear from going after Peter, he didn’t like Eloise getting to see him naked. Making haste he rushed down the mountain and into town still shifted as a massive bear. Peter and Eloise right behind him, he lumbered up to the emergency room entrance. Eloise slipped off of Peter’s back and rushed into the hospital he assumed to tell them they needed help. He and Peter shifted back and dressed before several nurses and a doctor came out with a stretcher.

“What happened?” the doctor asked.

“He was attacked by a mountain lion,” Marcus explained helping them lift Troy onto the stretcher.

“Are any of you family?” the doctor asked, the nurses began to roll him into the hospital.

“I’m his brother,” Peter announced.

“You can come. You two are going to have to wait in the waiting room,” the doctor told Eloise and Marcus. Marcus nodded and guided her over to a chair, pushing her down he went to get them both a cup of coffee. Their day hadn’t started out right, but now she was back where she belonged, William was in custody and hopefully they’d made it to the hospital in time.

“I hope he is okay,” Eloise whispered when he handed her the Styrofoam cup of vending machine coffee.

“He will be fine. Troy is strong and he has been injured worse when we were serving overseas.” He took her hand and kissed it, he needed to feel her.

“Are you okay?” he asked her, she’d been through a terrible ordeal that day.

“I think so, I don’t think I have processed everything. I am angrier than anything. How could he think it was okay to just take me like that? What was going through his mind?” She leaned into his touch and he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

“He wasn’t thinking. When the animal takes over the human side cannot set it straight. His mountain lion took over and he went wild. The kindest thing we can do for him is to put him out of his misery. At some point the animal will take over completely and he won’t be able to stay human,” he explained, her eyes teared up and she took a shuddering breath.

“That is awful. Is it that way for all shifters?” she asked, he could tell she was worried he would turn on her.

“No, it is rare for a shifter to go mad. We have the same mental health issues as humans. It becomes more dangerous for us to stay alive than a full blooded human. The shifter communities have people who take care of those who go mad. I bet he was on the radar for his clan at home. When a shifter moves away, they are required to connect with the shifter group closest to their new home. They are not held to the same standards as the other members of the local group. If anything happens the local alpha needs to get permission from their original alpha to take action against them. It is a long process which can cause chaos like we had today,” he explained. She nodded and rested her head on his shoulder. They sat in silence for an hour before Peter came out to talk with them. Eloise had fallen asleep against his shoulder and couldn’t stand to speak with him. Peter dropped into an empty chair. He scrubbed his hands across his face and sighed.

“He is going to be alright. They stitched up the gash and have him on a blood transfusion. He has to stay in the hospital for a few days to watch for infection,” Peter shared. Marcus slumped back in relief.

“I am glad to hear it. Is he awake?” he asked.

“No, he probably won’t wake up until tomorrow. Take your mate home and help her heal from this ordeal. I will contact you when he is awake,” Peter told him, Marcus nodded and was about to get up when he realized they didn’t have a way home.

“I’ll call us an uber and take her home. Thank you for your help today,” he said, Peter nodded and stood to go back to his brother. Marcus pulled out his phone and quickly contacted a car to come and pick them up. When the car arrived, he picked up Eloise and carried her. She didn’t stir the entire trip back to their home. He kissed her forehead and carried her inside once they were home. Placing her on the bed he sighed and ran his hand down her cheek. She was safe and home.
