Chapter 11

Jenna

The following morning I awoke from sleep to find Lorenzo getting ready for his flight, "Is it time, why didn't you wake me?"

"I didn't want to disturb you," he says without a glance. I sigh and got out of bed, then reaching out, I kissed him, mumbling. "Morning..."

"Morning." He mumbled, kissing me back before breaking away to continue getting ready to return back to Milan. I was supposed to leave with him but circumstances changed, I only pray this would be over soon.

"Okay, I'll go shower so I would drop you at the airport-"

"I already called a cab. I'm sure you have other prominent duties you would rather attend--" he spat.

I scoffed, knowing exactly what he's referring to.

"If you don't want me to go, just go ahead and say it, I would rather you talk to me than this sarcastic claps, it's childish--" I turn away to get into the bathroom when hands yanked me back abruptly, crashing me into his chest

"I'm sorry..." he whispered and I looked at him.

"I appreciate you telling me up-hand and not waiting for me to leave for Milan before going behind my back..." he said sincerely.

I shook my head, "Lorenzo, I love you, so much and I would never do anything to hurt you or jeopardize us. You need to trust me..." I tell him, fixing his rumpled collar.

"I do trust you... It's Karl my guts don't sit right with, he's a man and men are capable of a lot of things when they are not thinking straight."

"Trust me then..." I said.

"Fine, but I want to be included in your plans, you call me and inform me about every single detail that's going on in that house, and in two weeks I want you back in Milan, to me,?and not a day later, is that clear?"

"Yes.." I beam, leaning in to kiss him, "Ti amo." I mumbled the whole time wondering how I got so lucky with him, he's freaking amazing. I hope things turn out fine soon, so I can return back to Milan.

Delilah

I stepped into the house and took in the air, everywhere felt quiet. I shut the door behind me and placed my bag on the side.

Then walking through the kitchen the first thing I noticed were papers and documents littered on the table, floor, counter, everywhere.

I reached for them, "I was afraid you were not coming back." I heard Karl's voice behind me, having me skimming and turning,

I lifted my eyes from the papers to him.

"A-Are these loans?" I stutter.

He hums in response, while leaning against the doorway, staring at me, his expression sapped and depleted like he's been awake for days.

"How much?" I asked.

He sighs, "It's not important..."

"Don't do that, don't cut me out... Tell me how much you owe."

"$50000." he muttered sharply and my eyes widened, "It's nothing for you to worry about, I'm going to sort it out."

I falter, turning away from him, not able to believe what's happening. I could hear his footsteps behind me, I felt his hands trail and squeeze my shoulder, how did he know I needed that, I feel so stressed, "How are we going to fix this?" I moan out to him.

"I'm already working on it...." he whispered.

I turned to face him, "How? How are we going to raise 50000 fucking dollars, Karl? I thought we agreed no more loans, they only complicate things.."

"Hey..." he pressed our foreheads together, "Trust me, I said I would fix it, and I will. Right now. I'm just really glad you're back, you don't know how much I missed you, it hasn't been the same without you here."

"You didn't call.." I reminded him.

"I didn't think you wanted me to..." he whispered and I sighed breaking away from him, I tried not to look at the scattered everywhere.

"Is Massey here?" I asked, hoping not.

"No..." He answered and I sighed in relief, "Delilah, there's something else we need to talk about.....But you have to promise you won't get mad." the tone in which he said it, was proof that whatever he's about to throw at me won't be good.

"What, Karl?"

"Promise me..."

"No, tell me..."

"Uh, um... Massey was acting out, she's been getting in a lot of trouble in school lately, her grades are slipping, even her teachers are starting to complain."

"Cut to the point, Karl. " I cut in, it's no surprise Massey's acting out, she's a spoiled brat who needs serious discipline.

"So we came up with a plan, we agreed, Jenna would move in for a while-"

I sputtered, "Wait, What? moving where? Here, you mean this house!"

"It's just for a while..."

"Are you crazy? You're kidding, right? Please, tell me that's a joke that you really didn't invite your ex-wife, the woman who tried to kill me in this house." He cringed sheepishly and slowly I took my eyes around the house to notice everywhere else was clean and spotless. "Oh, my God... She's already here, isn't she? were you even planning on telling me."

"That's why I came over to see you and then we got the news about your father, speaking of your father, how's he?"

"Don't you dare change the subject Karl? Why would you bring her here without talking to me first? I pay rent here too in case you've forgotten, this is my house to, you had no right--"

"I know--" he cut in sharply, "I'm sorry... It's just until we figure out what's going on... She's staying in Massey's room, so there's a chance that you might not even run into her."

I stared at him stunned, "How's it you're not seeing how crazy and awkward this is? This is the same woman you cheated on, the same woman we fought about a few days ago, the same woman you said you would rather be with—"

The sound of keys had us suddenly stilling and looking over at the door, then it opened, revealing Massey and Jenna.

"Why are you here?" Massey was the first to speak, more like spit at me.

"Massey!" Jenna scolded her, before smiling up at me, "Delilah, it's good to see you again."

"Oh, my God!" Massey howled running off,

I crossed my arms over my chest, frowning at Karl, "I'm sure..." she started again, "by now Karl must have told you the situation of things... I don't like this as much as any of you do but this involves my daughter and when it comes to my daughter's wellbeing everything else is irrelevant... I hope you understand."

"Not to be rude but what's wrong with your place?"

"It's a small unfurnished apartment, Massey wouldn't enjoy it very well and the only other option is taking Massey to Milan, I would hate to do drag her out of school, or away from her father--"

I cut in with a sigh,

"It's fine... I guess...I just wish someone had informed me about it first.." I said the last part glaring up at Karl.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you.." he whispered, holding me close to him.

I rolled my eyes and jerked away from him grabbing my bag from the corner and storming into the room, my mind spiraling with everything that's happening.
