"Welcome to Zoe's dinner! What can I get you, sir?”
"Two glasses of brandy for table 5,” I said and pointed towards the end.
"Okay...that would be $100.”
I grabbed some cash from my wallet and paid for it,
"Okay, we will attend to you shortly.”
I nodded and returned to my table, where Joe, an old friend was waiting, "Why do you order at the counter? You let them beg you to order in their crappie restaurants, that's how you do it.”
"You sound like a douchebag.”
"We are all douchebags, that's why they call us men.” He laughs at his joke.
"Here, we go.” The girl from the counter walked over with our drinks, "This is for you.” She dropped them in front of us with a smile, "Anything else you need?”
"How about your number?” Joe winked.
“We're fine for now.” I cut in.
"I’ll be over there if you need anything else.”
She ignored his terrible flirting and walked away.
”Later then.” He stared at her ass as she walked away, "Hot! almost forgot why I loved it here.”
"How long are you in town?” I waved in.
He returns his gaze, "Till the weekend, I'm working on a project.”
I nodded and brought the coffee to my lips.
"So how’s Jenna?” He asked.
I shrugged, "Happily married.”
"I heard. You two still talking?”
"We share a teenage daughter, what do you think?”
"That must have been terrible, the separation. I was so surprised to find out you two got divorced, you were always so good together, so happy, I envied you a bit. What happened?”
"Well, times change and people move on.” I said with a nod and at the same time my phone began to buzz, "Speak of the devil.” I muttered and answered, "Jenna?”
"Have you seen it?”
I got up and excused myself,
"The Daily Times, check it now.”
I put the phone on loudspeaker and browsed the net to find out what she was talking about, I became aware when I caught sight of a gorgeous photo of Delilah on the news, she looked stunning.
"Apparently your girlfriend is coming on live news as Diane to discuss the affair, the audacity she has, she's doing this on purpose.”
"Are we still talking about this?” I thought we had all moved past this stage.
"You think this is convenient for me. It's my anniversary today, I have a date with my husband and he's probably at the restaurant waiting for me to arrive but here I'm talking to my ex-husband about his girlfriend.”
"Ex-girlfriend. Remember Zoe, my current girlfriend.” I was sarcastic,
"I don't care, just make sure Delilah doesn't talk about the affair on the live show or write about it.”
"Isn't that the same thing you did?”
"Don't you dare, Karl. Don't you dare make this about me. This book was supposed to be my cloture, my way of moving forward. I wouldn't let her or anyone take that away from me. Call her right now and convince her to withdraw it?”
"I haven't spoken to Delilah in months. How do I bring this up to her?” Why are we still talking about this? affairs shouldn't be this complicated.
"Like said I don't care, I have never asked you for anything, so I'm asking you now, stop her from dragging this any further, if Delilah goes public with this, it becomes a thing again and I can't go there anymore and I know you don't want that either. This has gone long enough, you two started this mess I don't see why I have to be dragged into it over and over again.” Her voice cracking with sobs.
"Fine, I would call her.”
She hung up without a word.
I ranked my hair in frustration and returned to the table,
"Is everything okay?”
"Yeah, you know women and their troubles....Jenna and her demands.”
"Yeah, I know how the feeling, all those support fees can seep a man. . But in Just a few years Massey would be 18 and you would be a free man, you can tell her to fuck off then.”
"I wish it was that easy,” I said as I ran Kay.
He should know a way to contact Delilah, he picked on the second ring, "Two times in a week, you're flattering me bro.” Kay and his Jokes.
"Look, I need your help contacting Delilah.”
"Miss her already.”
"It's not what you're thinking. I just need to talk to her.”
“And how does Zoe feel about this? Give her the phone, let me feed her all the details.”
"Are you helping or not?” I ignored him, he had a habit of getting on my nerves.
"I don't have it, she hasn't called. But Good luck asking Caleb though. I have to go..” He hung up immediately.
"I hope everything is okay?” Joe asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah..” I placed the phone away, deciding to reach Caleb later.
