Chapter 46

Anderson took a deep breath, he knew he had originally wanted to wait until after Jonah was born, but he couldn’t. He needed to know Evelyn would be his before their son was born. He wanted to be married to Evelyn, and he couldn’t wait.

“Evelyn, you have been the sun in my life, always shining brightly. You are carrying my son and doing all the hard work. You didn’t give up on me when I was letting my fears control me. You knew we were meant to be mates and showed me that. I was going to wait until Jonah was born, but I can’t anymore. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Evelyn, will you marry me?” Anderson asked, getting down on one knee and opening the ring box. He’d bought her a simple three diamond ring set in a platinum band. He looked up into her beautiful brown eyes and saw tears shining in them. Her hands were covering her mouth, and she had a look of shock on her face.

“Evvy?” he asked after a moment when she didn’t answer him. His heart sank when she still didn’t answer him.

“Evvy, I love you with all my heart. I will never leave you. Please say you will marry me?” he begged and this time she nodded, giving him a shaky hand. He slipped the ring onto her left ring finger and stood, kissing her hard on the mouth. His tongue pushed into her mouth, tangling with hers. He could feel tears slip down her face and pulled back to look at her.

“This is what you wanted right?” he asked worried she was going to take back her yes.

“Yes! I just didn’t think you would ask me. I thought you were happy as the way things were,” she cried and he stared at her in surprise as more tears fell down her cheeks.

“Are those happy tears?” Anderson prayed they were and cupped her face with his hands tenderly.

“Yes,” she hiccuped, giving him a watery smile.

“Thank goodness, I don’t know what I would do if they were sad tears.” He kissed her once more and took her hand walking her down the beach. He let her gather her thoughts, he wanted to give her a chance to let the news sink in.

“Anderson?” she called and he turned his head to look at her.

“Yes?”

“Do you want to be married before the baby comes?” she asked and he thought about it.

“I want what makes you happy. If you want to be married before our son arrives, I am happy to do a courtroom wedding and a huge reception later. If you want to wait until after and have a big wedding I am fine with that too. I want our wedding day to be the one you dreamed of,” he answered kissing her knuckles.

“I think I want to wait until after Jonah is born. I’ve always dreamed of wearing a beautiful white wedding gown and being pregnant was not in my vision. This ring is beautiful, how long have you had it?”

“I bought it when you agreed to a date. I knew you were my mate and I wasn’t going to ever let you slip through my fingers again. When I was in Arizona I called Roxie to talk to her about my tiger being depressed. She pointed out how stupid I was being for not listening to my tiger and my heart. I knew the day I met you in Xander’s home you were it. I let my fears get in the way and I almost lost you once. I decided the day we got back together I would never do anything to ever make you doubt my love for you again,” he replied, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her close to his body. He loved feeling her body pressed against his, it settled his tiger to know she was near.

“Anderson, be honest with me,” she began and he stiffened.

“I’m always honest with you.” Stopping at a boulder he helped her up and then settled next to her watching the waves crash onto the sand. The sea was wild today, the wind whipped through his hair and stung his cheeks, but he wouldn’t trade being with Evelyn for anything.

“How scared are you about me giving birth?”

“Honest answer?” he asked, he wanted to make sure she was ready to hear his reply.

“Yes. I want to know how you feel, at our doctor appointments you are always so serious.”

“I am still scared, this isn’t something that is going to go away overnight. I’m serious at our appointments because I want to make sure I don’t miss a single thing. I feel having all the facts will help me be less frightened of you giving birth. The birthing classes we are taking next month I know are going to help me understand more. I’ve read as much as I can on the subject but I don’t want to freak myself out,” he replied resting his cheek against the top of hers.

“Anderson, everything will be fine. We have the best doctors in the area who will help me give birth. At the birthing class, they will help us create a birthing plan. This is scary for me too, you know,” she shared and he hugged her close.

“I know and I think you are the most amazing woman for carrying our child. I can only be by your side and try to help you the best I can.”

“You are helping. You’ve taken on the renovations for our new house, helped me get a new car and have been at all my appointments. I love you.” She leaned up and he met her with a kiss. He kept the kiss light exchanging brief pecks sharing his love for her.

“Thank you for helping me see my worth. Sometimes I worry you are going to come to your senses and leave me,” he admitted and she gave a soft chuckle.

“I am not going anywhere, it is you and me,” she replied and leaned against him, her head on his shoulder.

“Thank you,” he whispered, tucking her close to his body and enjoying the view of the ocean with his mate by his side.

After twenty minutes of sitting in silence, Anderson knew they needed to get back to the house and spend the rest of the say with his future family.

“We need to head home,” he announced and saw her frown.

“Are you sure?” she asked and he nodded hopping off the boulder and reaching to help her down. She slid down the rock and he caressed her stomach feeling the baby kick.

“He is very energetic,” he commented and she laughed.

“He kicks all the time, sometimes he wakes me moving around.”

“I’m sorry, next time wake me up and I’ll keep you company,” he offered, not wanting her to be the only one sleep-deprived.

“That isn’t necessary, I consider it training for all the nights I am awake with the baby,” she answered and snuggled close to him. He kept her tucked against his side the entire walk home.
