Chapter 5

Marcus and I were super excited when we learned Mason got himself a car to use for our junior year. He picked up Marcus and then headed over to my place. I was nervous this morning. I blew dryer my long hair out and chose to wear a pair of black leggings and a pink crop top with a hoodie. I did my make up and then got a text that they were waiting outside for me. I tied my shoes and ran out of the house. Mason and Marcus were out waiting in a large silver SUV. It was new and they both looked good in it. "That's what you're wearing?" Marcus said. I stopped and looked at myself.

"What's wrong? Is it too much? Come on you guys this is hard enough for me."

"You look good Can's, dont listen to this ass," Mason said. I stuck my tongue out at Marcus and jumped into the SUV. The closer we go to school the more nervous I got. Mason parked the car and their normal group of friends start to head our way. One of Mason's good friends Travis's hand bumped Mason and Marcus. he was a good looking guy.

"So where is your shadow this morning?' he asked the guys.

"You mean me?" I asked as I came around the corner.

"What the hell?" He said when he looked at me. "Candice?" He asked. I had to laugh. Travis has never been rude or mean to me. I had to take it easy on him. "Wow, I mean you look hot." Marcus punched him in the arm. "Ouch you ass, what dude look at her," he said and I giggled. Marcus just crossed his arms. His attitude today seemed off. I walked closer to him.

"Are you okay?" I asked him.

"Yeah, I'm fine," He said and started to head inside the school. I went to the car and grabbed my backpack. Mason was at my side.

"I think something is wrong with Marcus," I said to Mason.

"He is fine, dont pay him any attention." Travis caught up to us.

"Can I carry your backpack?" He asked me.

"Yeah, if you want to," I said and handed it over to him. Mason flashed Travis a look, but he ignored it. The rest of the day went by. most people didn't even realize it was me. I had a lot of attention happening with the guys. Marcus seems to be in some sort of funk the whole day and every time I asked him what was up. He kind of blew me off. Mason has been his normal self but he seems to keep himself close to me. Travis has been trying to charm me all day long. it's cute but he seems a little too into me. The last thing I want to do on my first day of school is to get involved with a guy right now.

Lunchtime came and I walked out to the normal table where I sit with the guys. Of course, when I turned the corner they were already there and Tiffany and her group were already all over Marcus and Mason. I just shook my head and headed over. I took a seat in between Marcus and Mason. "Excuse me, but who are you?" Tiffany said. I looked up at her.

"Really?" I asked her. her mouth fell open and she just stood there and stared at me.

"She looks good don't you think Tiff?" Travis said smiling.

"I mean, I guess." Was all she could say. I just rolled my eyes and started to eat my lunch. I gave Marcus a small hit with my arm. he hit me back but didn't look at me. So I hit him harder.

"Ouch ass." He said and I started to laugh.

"I'll keep doing it until you tell me what is wrong."

"There's nothing wrong Cans. I just have a lot on my mind."

"Can I make it any better?" I asked him. He looked over at me but didn't say anything. Then he looked away.

"Just being here is enough." I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder. We all sat there and listen while Tiffany talked of course. All about her and what she did over the summer.

"I want to hear about Candace's summer," Makayla spoke up. I sat up and just looked at her. "I for one think you look great Candace." She said.

"Thank you," I said to her and she smiled at me.

"I guess, so what happened Cans? Did you meet a guy that made you come out f your shell?" Tiffany asked. All eyes were on me and I could feel the shyness wanting to take over. I took a deep breath.

"No not really I just felt like a change is all," I said and I felt Marcus's hand go around my waist. I sighed and tried to look away.

"Sounds like a fun time," Tiffany said and just rolled her eyes.

"Sounds like your a little jealous of how hot she turned out to be." Mason stood up ad said. All eyes including mine turned to him. Tiffany actually looked hurt.

"I guess if you like that sort of thing." Was all she could come up with.

"I do," Mason said. He took my hand and Marcus and I followed him.

"Dumb bitch," Mason said. I couldn't help but try and hide my smile. Marcus didn't say a word. Mason usually wasn't the one to get in the middle of anything. In fact, he was always the one who liked to keep the peace. Mason didn't have much of a temper like Marcus did. The only thing that ever really upset him was stuff that had to do with his family.

"Mason are you good," I asked him.

"Yeah, I'm just ready for this day to be over and Tiffany really gets on my nerves."

"I've been saying that for a long time," I said.

"its Marcus's fault. He was the one who took her out." Marcus looked at him.

"Is it my fault that she tuned out to be a leach? I didn't even do anything with her but kiss her. I thought she would be an easy lay."

"Nice," I said and they both looked at me. "What?" Mason started to laugh.

"I didn't sleep with her."

"Sure," I said crossing my arms.

"Are you jealous Cans?" Marcus asked me. I looked at him like he was off his rocker.

"Why would I be? I asked him. If I didn't know any better. I would say the look on his face was a painful look, but why would Marcus have that kind of look on his face?

"Anyways, I didn't sleep with her." He said and started to walk off. I looked over at Mason who just shrugged his shoulders at me. The rest of the day went by normal. Tiffany kept her distance from us. I thought for sure that Mason and Marcus would be coming home with me, but they just dropped me off and left. I stood there wondering what the hell was going on. I went inside and dropped my things down by the front door. i found my mother in the kitchen cooking dinner.

"Hey love how was the first day?" She asked when I sat down at the bar.

"It went good."

"Where are the boys? She asked me.

"Honestly mom I don't know. They have been acting weird all day. Then they just dropped me off and left."

"Maybe they will be back later." I just shook my head. I grabbed an apple and walked up to my bedroom. I pulled out my phone and sent them both a group text.

"What's going on?" I hit send. Both sent me back the same message that said.

"Nothing." Bullsht, now I was getting upset.

"I know something is wrong with the both of you and if you don't talk to me. I won't ever talk to you two again. So either tell me what's going on or you both can kiss my butt." I hit send. It took a few minutes but then I got a message from Mason.

"We will be over in an hour." I took a deep breath and prepared myself for what was to come.
