Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Pay attention. You just figured out he was of the supernatural world. That means you need to stay on high alert. But it was kind of hard to concentrate when his hand was wrapped around mine. And it’s not like I don’t notice the fact he is slowly pulling me closer to him or walking closer to me every time we turn a corner.
“So.” He said, trying to start a conversation.
“Needle and thread.” I said on instinct. My dad said it all the time so it kind of stuck.
“What?” He asked, tilting his head to the side and giving me one of those lopsided smiles.
“You use a needle and thread to sew. You said sow, so I said needle and thread.” I said trying not to ramble too much. I was expecting him to just shrug it off and start talking about something else. But instead he started to chuckle.
“Clever.” He grinned at me. I did a mock bow.
“I’ll be here all week.”
This only made him chuckle again.
It feels like my mouth is just moving on its own and my brain is still trying to process the fact that instead of thinking I am crazy he is laughing. Though he could be laughing at the fact I’m crazy. Yeah that sounds more likely.
I whipped my head to my left then took off running in that direction when I heard the word “shit” come out of my mom’s mouth.
I could hear Liam running beside me but I didn’t even glance in his direction. I was too worried something had happened to my mom. Just the thought of something happening to her made my legs move faster but felt like they were going to break at the same time.
When I finally got to my mom she was trying to help John lift the barn door, that I didn’t even know existed, off of Mr. Desmond. I moved forward quickly and muttered a quick spell under my breath while reaching down to help lift the barn door. It started to move so I chanted the words to the spell over in my head. It was a levitation and strength spell I had made up. I was actually quite proud of it.
I pushed the voices in my head that kept distracting me to the back of my mind and continued with what I was doing without the commentary.
When the door was off of him we leaned it against the barn with ease. I reached out a hand to Mr. Desmond and he took it with only slight hesitation. If I wasn’t studying him so closely I wouldn’t have even noticed. Grabbing his hand I pulled him up with all my strength. I’m not weak, but damn he was heavy.
“Are you alright?” I asked and he nodded his head.
“Are you sure, that was a very heavy barn door.” My mom said with concern. I looked at Mr. Desmond more closely to see he didn’t even have a scratch on him.
“Yes, I’m fine.” he said and I then realized something. He must be whatever Liam is.
Oh this is going to drive me crazy trying to figure it out. There are over 100 possibilities. Yes, that many. There are many supernatural creature most people have forgotten even existed. For example. The claverntall. It is a supernatural creature that can turn itself into a chick muck. It also has the brain of a dolphin. One of the smartest creatures in the world. But there is so little left in the world that they are considered extinct. Now if I could meet any supernatural being it would be one of them. They are considered very attractive and have the best of personalities. They are all around good. And if you look around the world today you would understand why they are disappearing. They were considered extinct in the 1920′s. No one has seen one since. A shame too. Though it is mostly the human raises fault. I mean they killed them without even realizing it.
I shook my head and looked up to the sky. What was I thinking about earlier? I asked myself then looked at the two unknown supernatural creatures before me. Right. That. Glancing over at John, that was when another light bulb went off in my head. John was one of them too. Along with that one woman that was with my dad.... I narrowed my eyes at the ground. Well whatever they are. I’m going to figure it out. Then I’m going to fix whatever I can that is left of my family. I think a few minutes had passed because they were all on a new subject and talking about dinner or something.
“Ashley are you alright?” My mom asked and I felt everyone’s eyes on me.
“Fine.” I muttered and walked away. My mom was about to say something but I was already heading inside.
“Hey, Ashley.” John called out. Refraining from calling him everything but a white boy in my mind and out loud, I continued to walk to the house.
“John.” My mom said and I glanced back to see her place a hand on his shoulder. “Stop.” she simply said and i could hear her footsteps following after me. When I made it inside I waited for her to come to the kitchen. Moving closer to her, I placed my hand over her mouth to keep her from saying anything. She jumped but then swatted my hand away. I raised a finger to my mouth looking to the men outside.
Leaning over to the sink in the kitchen and turning it on. I reached up in the cabinet and placed pop corn in the microwave, hitting a random time I let it run. And just for safety I flicked on the radio that sat near the open window. It would have been weird if I closed it when every other window was still open. I didn’t want to cast a spell or anything because I was already tired from the last one, not to mention I didn’t know if they could sense that kind of stuff, I was only hoping they didn’t catch on to what I was doing earlier.
“What?” My mom asked and I glanced out the window to see they were still talking to each other.
“Mom.... they’re not normal.” I whispered. She looked at me confused and I did a puff of smoke from my hand. Her eyes got big.
“They’re witches?!” she whisper yelled. I shook my head quickly.
“No No No. I don’t know what they are.. But they aren’t human. I’m still trying to figure out what they are.” I whispered.
“All of them?” She asked and I nodded my head. She let out a sigh and grabbed the popcorn from the microwave placing some pieces in her mouth. “Of course they are. Just my luck. First a witch now who knows what. oh please don’t be a windigo.” She muttered and I kind of smiled at the fact we have the same thought process.
“What are we going to do?” I asked her and she shrugged her shoulders.
“How am I supposed to know, you’re the witch, do the hocus pocus thing.” She waved her free hand and continued to eat with the other.
“What am i supposed to do, You’re the mom, do your mom thing.″ I waved my hand at her and then reached into the bag of popcorn, bringing it to my mouth.
We both thought it over and leaned against the kitchen counter, damn same thought process.
