Chapter Eleven

"Lydia...Lydia..."

I opened my eyes to Aspen shaking me awake. I looked over at Colt's desk and he was gone. It made me sad Colt wasn't the one shaking me awake.

"Where's Colt?"

"He had to go to the pack a couple towns over. Said he will be back later this afternoon."

"Aspen.. W-why.. why.. is.. he ignoring.. m-m-me..." I cired.

Aspen pulled me into her arms and held me as I cried in her lap. I'm not sure sweety, but I have a big feeling it has something to do with his dad.

"What's wrong with his dad?" I asked.

"Lydia, they killed Colt's dad and because of that his mother took her life before Colt could even get here. She sensed her mate was dead and she didn't handle it well."

I stared at Aspen in horror. I never even got to meet them so I didn't even know who everyone was talking about. I felt like such an asshole, but it still wasn't right. Why would he ignore me and still not communicate these things to me.

"Aspen do you remember when my mother told us we would feel so complete when we found our mates?"

"Yes."

"I don't feel complete at all. I feel so alone" I sobbed.

"Shush hun. You need to calm down. The mate bond between you isn't as strong as it would be if you were mated. I'm sure Colt will be home soon and will fill you in. Now you need to relax. "

But I couldn't relax. I sobbed harder and harder. I thought about how I was almost raped again. I thought about how my brother never tried to contact me. Colt is ignoring me after what we just went through. I felt so alone even with Aspen here. I started coughing and then it turned into hyperventilating. Aspen got my a bucket as I began to throw up. I laid down as I struggled to breathe. My chest hurt.

"Someone get the doctor. NOW!" Aspen screamed.

I felt Aspen roll me on my side as I threw up again.

"Lydia you need to calm down focus on your breathing." She said.

The doctor came in taking my arm he pushed a needle into my vein. I felt my heart rate drop and my eyes became heavy.

POV Colt

I looked out the window as we drove home from the meeting I just had. I was tired, beaten, and just plain pissed. That son of a bitch killed my father, causing my mother to take her life, and then attempted to mark my mate. I promised her I would never let another man touch her and I failed her. I now had to take on responsibilities of this pack that my father never thought I was ready for. Now I have to prove him wrong. I have so many people counting on me now. I pushed my mate away and she probably hates me for it now.

It was around 4 in the afternoon when we arrived back at the pack house. I needed to find Lydia and explain.

"Alpha welcome back." A she-wolf said.

"Thank you." I said.

"Aspen is in need of your attention right away. It's about the Luna."

I hurried towards the pack house and found Kodi sitting on the couch with an icepack to his head. Our wounds heal fairly quickly so he was on the mend.

"Kodi, where is Aspen?"

"She is at the doctor house with Lydia. She's okay, but she had a panic attack and well yeah."

I rushed out the door and ran down to the doctor house. I shoved opened the doors and was met by a nurse.

"Luna is this way Alpha."

I hadn't gotten use to that term yet. When I walked in the room Aspen was asleep on the couch and Lydia was laying in a bed. The doctor came up behind me causing a growl to leave my lips.

"Sorry doc" I sighed.

"It's okay Alpha. Given what you have gone through I would be jumpy too. Luna will be just fine. When I arrived she was having a panic attack so I have her a mild sedative to calm her down. She was having troubles breathing, so we gave her oxygen just to help level it. She should wake up in a few hours and be okay to go home."

"Okay... thanks doc." I said.

Watching your mate lay in hospital bed is difficult. Her face was still slightly bruised from the hits she got. Her eyes were very red a puffy as well. I'm such a dick. I just left her alone to deal with all this. I just couldn't face her after feeling like a failure. I sat down in the chair next to her and held her hand in mine.

"Colt.. I er mean Alpha"

I turned to see Aspen rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"Colt is fine Aspen."

"No disrespect Colt, but all Lydia tried to do for you was comfort you even when she needed it too. She was almost raped and marked! I hope after today you fix this. I don't want to ever see her like this again." she yelled whispering at me.

"Neither do I. Can you please leave me with her."

"Of course."

"Aspen can you do me a favor?"

"Sure, anything."

"Can you pick up some groceries and drop them off at the house? Then get Lydia's favorite soaps and such?"

"Yes, of course. I'll see you later."

With that Aspen left. I laid my head down on the bed and waited for her to wake up.

POV Lydia

As I woke up I began coughing.

"Lydia what's wrong?!" Colt asked.

His presence startled me. I pulled the oxygen tubes from nose and took in a big gulp of air. When I went to speak my throat tensed up. I leaned over the side of the bed and threw up again. Colt brushed my hair back and rubbed small circles on my back. His touches were so comforting even though I was still a bit upset with him. A nurse came in carrying a cup of water while another cleaned up the mess I just made. Colt took the cup of water and helped me drink it while still rubbing my back. I took another big breath and laid back down.

"Lydia how do you feel?" The nurse asked.

"My throat hurts and my head is throbbing." I mumbled.

My head was spinning and I felt like I was on fire. The nurse left and brought back the doctor. He took my temperature and checked my breathing.

"Lydia you have a high temperature and your breathing still seems a bit raspy. Wolves rarely get sick, but I'm thinking you've come down with the flu. Your body is very tired and weak so I'm guessing it struggled to fight this off on it's own. Were going to have you stay here for the time being."

The doctor left and the nurse got to work on me. She gave me an IV for fluids and some medicine. I had to have the oxygen back on which annoyed the crap out of my nose. She got me another blanket too.

"If you feel your going to throw up again here is a bucket. I will be back in an hour to check on you. Luna. Alpha." She said bowing her head.

I laid my head back as she left the room. I tried to focus on my breathing, but Colt was making me feel uncomfortable with the awkward silence.

"If you have stuff to do you can go. I'll be fine" I said softly.

Tears welled up in his eyes. They say the only time you'll see an alpha cry is when they've reached there limit or their heart is broken. I think Colt reached both.

"Lydia. I'm not going anywhere. I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am. I left you alone and that was so wrong of me on so many levels. Nothing about our meeting has been fair or the way I wished it could have. I thought the house would be a fresh start, but even that couldn't fix it."

"Colt it's..."

Before I could say more I leaned over the bed to the bucket and started throwing up again. Colt grabbed my hair and rubbed circles on my back again. After a couple minutes I stopped and laid back down. Colt gave me water and I closed my eyes. I was to tired to talk. I rolled over and let tears slide down my cheek. I was so over whelmed it wasn't even funny. Colt slid in next to me. I laid my head on his shoulder and just held is hand.

"Lydia I'm scared. I have take on a role I wasn't prepared for. I thought when I met you it would help me get my shit strait. I was going to prove to my father I could do it. Then him and my mother were taken away from me. Then my mate was taken from me and almost mated to someone else. I'm going to make it up to you I swear."

"Okay." I whispered
